Sent from reader, Jen:

I’ve written to you a couple times before about good deals that I’ve found, but I wanted to say thank you again and show you what I’ve been doing with the deals you’ve shown me. My husband and I had a beautiful baby boy last August. Dylan faced many struggles and we said goodbye on Oct 17th, after only two short months. (This is the VERY abbreviated story) Our son has inspired us to do so much more than we ever imagined.

We formed a March of Dimes team, Devoted to Dylan, and raised over $33,000 and finished 9th in the country. And with coupons, I have been buying shampoo, toothpaste, etc and making family care packages to donate to our local Children’s hospital (where Dylan was SO wonderfully cared for) that I’m calling Devoted to Dylan Family Packs. I just wanted you to know that you are helping me create these packs in honor of our sweet baby and wanted to thank you. I know that you like to post happy/upbeat stories on Fridays and I thought this was a good one 🙂

What a brilliant way to give back!! My sister has a terrible autoimmune disorder and after seven knee surgeries, chemo, and a long bed rest (which we didn’t know if she would make it), she’s up and walking again and back to her normal self! We’ve given presents and dvds to the children in the wonderful Immunology and Cancer center, but I totally need to get my sister into coupons to help make these bags and place them in the family room at the hospital!

I’m so sorry for your loss. You and your husband remind me of those wonderful parents to baby Avery. Her parents just tried to let their child see as much life as she could and she passed away way soon than expected. You and your husband are incredibly strong people!

  8. Tiffany

“I know that you like to post happy/upbeat stories on Fridays and I thought this was a good one.”

This isn’t happy and upbeat, it made me very sad. But it’s still a great story 🙂 Sorry about your baby.

    • Tonya

Doesnt seem upbeat or happy but it is. To overcome loss in such a beautiful way is very happy and inspiring! We all experience loss but not all can do it with such strength, grace and with a positive outlook! I understand what you mean. I also understand why this is SUCH a happy and positive story. <3

  25. Sarah

Thanks for sharing your life with us. Truly touched me as I am fixing to have a baby in October. I can only hope I would have the courage/love that you have shared with others after such a traumatic event. God has a precious angel with him. God Bless your family.

As a fellow preemie parent, I commend you for all you are doing. Your son has left an amazing legacy. You are an inspiration to me. “Even the smallest person can change the course of the future.” Thank you for sharing and feel free to email me if you need or would like any coupons. 33. Lisa K

You are an inspiration. My son was born in September of last year. While reading your blog I had to stop because I had tears that I couldnt see through. My little boy is on the floor playing next to me and I thought how hard it would be to not have him. I am so sorry for your loss that there are no words that will even come close. You are a wonderful mom. keep up the good deeds. I never met your Dylan but I will never forget him.

    • Rebeca

I share your feelings Lisa. I couldnt finish reading the blog either. Interesting how such a sad story could also be SO beautiful and inspiring at the same time.

      • Tonya

        so true!

    • Stephanie

I had tears I couldn’t see through too… my 5 month old son is asleep next to me. I couldn’t imagine not having him and I feel almost like I’m grieving the loss of Dylan for her because I couldn’t imagine not having my own son in my life. I am so grateful to have him.

  34. Jennifer

Truly an amazing story about very special people!

  35. Janelle

Wow, what a great way to minister to others in need. Thanks for being a blessing!

  36. Lisa

What a beautiful little boy and a very inspirational story. I’m sure many families will be touched by your generosity. We only spent a wk in the NICU w/our dtr, but I would have loved a care package like this~

  37. allie

Wow! That is an amazing story! Thank for sharing!

  38. Tonya

Amazing! My husband and I lost our son 5 years ago and now we are filled with nothing but happiness for having had him in our life for the very short time that we did. For the first couple of years after we lossed him things werent so easy tho. I think you and your husband are amazing for giving back, but doing it after a loss (a fairly recent one to top it off) makes you a hero in my eyes. Keep staying strong and keeping his memory alive through you and your husbands love for each other and Dylan. All of those families at the hospital, and myself, are grateful and very proud of you! <3!
Thank you for posting this Collin!

  39. Michelle

Thanks, Collin, for shining a light on such a strong, courageous woman — an angel on earth with an angel up above. Truly inspirational reminder that all life is precious and purposeful.

  40. VB
