One important thing to know is that there is no age requirement to join AARP. It is open to those below age 50. However some AARP benefits do require age 50+. One example that may benefit those younger than 50 is the first Tuesday of every month in the store at Walgreens as well as online during that week AARP members and seniors receive 20% off regular priced items. Check and see if you could use any benefits open to you if you are younger than 50.

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

AWESOME! Thanks for mentioning that helpful piece of information, JD827! Good to know! 🙌❤️

  2. StephanieR

We were recently visiting Bryce Canyon & Zion. Both are national parks. We were about to pay over $60 for admission when I asked the Ranger if we would qualify for the Senior rate. My husband had to give them proof of his age and we purchased his pass on the spot. Saved us tons of money. So, if you are 62 & over, invest a small amount of money now and it will pay itself off in 3-4 visits.

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for sharing how you were able to save at the national parks, StephanieR! So glad you were able to grab a discount there when asking! 🤗💞

  3. Theresa

Culver’s gives a senior discount if you ask. No memberships needed.

    • Claudette (Hip Sidekick)

Hi Theresa! Culver’s doesn’t officially have a dedicated senior discount policy. However, certain stores give 10% discounts on the total cost for customers aged 60 and over. Never hurts to ask.🥰

  4. Olgraygirl

I don’t join AARP because I don’t support their political agenda or other social projects, but AAA has similar discounts and perks such as bundled insurance policies, etc. I can personally attest to the Tmobile 55+ unlimited plans-we ditched Verizon and their price increases and never looked back! Also if you are in the region with Publix groceries, their senior day is Wednesday-5% discount. Happy shopping and thanks again H2S for giving us all the scoop!

    • Slswift

Same here, Olgraygirl. I am a member of AMAC (Association of Mature American Citizens). They offer many discounts, as well, and they do not support the political agenda that AARP does.

    • Seana

You don’t even need aarp or aaa for the t mobile 55+ package. I have neither and got the discount.

  5. Kirsten

Thanks for compiling – I realize how much I under-utilize by AARP membership!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

You’re very welcome, Kirsten! Glad this list is helpful! 🥰

  6. Renee

Verizon has a 55 and over Senior Plan available as well, and when you combine it with an automatic payment, you save even more. Also, even if you are not a Senior, be sure to check Verizon Up frequently for free tickets, early pre-sale tickets and other awesome prizes. Tickets vary for where you live. I won 2 tickets to the Broadway Musical Series “Pretty Woman”!

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for the heads up, Renee! It looks like the current eligibility for the Verizon 55+ plan is for Florida residents. Hoping they might expand this offer nationwide soon! 🤞 SO awesome that you won Broadway tickets – I bet that was a super fun show to go see! ❤️

      • Renee

Gee, why doesn’t Verizon offer that discount nationwide?

Thank you, Jessica! The musical, “Pretty Woman” was fabulous!!! I’d watch it again.

        • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

YAY! So happy to hear it was a good time and you’d watch it again, Renee! I agree about the offer! I thought it was strange that it was limited to one state, but we’ll keep an eye on it! ❤️

  7. Mike

Just an FYI, my wife asked about the discount at Albertsons/Vons on her shopping trip today, and was told NOT here in California. Geez……

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

DARN! Thanks for the update about your store, Mike! So sorry to hear they didn’t honor that discount for you. Hoping there might be another nearby grocery store that offers a senior discount for you! 🤞💞
