glow stick valentine's

Today I’m excited to share two simple and inexpensive non-candy classroom Valentine ideas that are so darn cute! Plus, I’ve included the corresponding printable labels for you to print for FREE.

First, check out how you can transform pencils into an adorable treat for Valentine’s Day.

Printing on a thicker paper or card stock is definitely recommended. After cutting out your hearts, punch holes on both sides to slide a pencil through. Note: You may have to punch a few times with a standard whole punch to create a large enough hole.

You can also use the free printable label to create this cute pencil arrow craft! Just glue the label to two pieces of larger heart shaped scrapbook or construction paper. Then twist some pipe cleaners around one end of the “arrow” and tape two small hearts to the tip of the pencil.

I found these sweet pencils at Target’s Dollar Spot priced around 7 for $1.

And here’s one more idea that is cheap and easy too! Buy glow stick bracelets (you can typically find them priced around 7 for $1 at Dollar Tree or Target’s Dollar Spot). Use this FREE printable label that I designed in black ink – have the kids color the label in fluorescent colored markers, highlighters, or crayons.

You Make My Heart Glow Valentine
To use, just punch a hole on both ends and insert your glow stick!

These are very cute. I also saw some “Yoda the best” valentines that you could also add glow sticks to. 🙂

    • Andria

I love that! I’m looking it up now! Thanks for sharing!

    • Leah

This is what we’re doing (Star Wars themed)! I also am considering “you’re the Obi-Wan for me”
I also saw parents took photos of their child holding a flashlight like a light saber, and attaching the glow stick to look like it’s “coming out” of the flashlight…really cute!

      • Katie

We did the glow sticks last year, and just a heads up that as soon as you insert the glow stick into the valentine, it will start to glow, because you will have to bend it a little. They only glow for a few hours, so don’t make them in advance or they won’t be glowing on Valentine’s Day.

        • linda

why didn’t you try bending the paper instead?

  2. Bobbi

I love the glow stick valentines. I have bought glow sticks at Target many times and they were 15 for $1. Thanks for the cute ideas, Lina!

  6. Barbie

My Michael’s store used to have a 12 pack of the bracelet glowsticks for $1…this would be a great deal! Check by the registers…at least that’s where I found them before.

  7. April

Great idea never thought about glow sticks (have done the pencils). Star wars pseudo light saber ideas would be great for boys 🙂 thanks for the thought Laura.

  8. sharon

Also dollar tree has the glow sticks.

  9. Jackie

Thanks for this super cute idea Lina!!!

  10. Cq

You can also score some pretty low cost glow sticks on amazon

  11. Natalie

My daughter and I did the glowstick valentines for her class last year and they were a huge hit.

  12. JA

I love the glow sticks! My daughter is using my 90% off valentine stock pile, but those will make cute party favors. Thanks!

    • Tanique E

      Same here! LOL
      Whoo hooo

  13. Krystal J

I can not wait to try these, thank you!

  14. nonebetter

love the glow stick idea–cuuute!! does that also need to be printed on thicker paper?

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

Yes I would so it won’t rip as easy. Thanks!

  15. Leslie

Soooo cute! Great ideas, thank you!

  16. evadesignseditor

The glow idea is so great I might make one for my husband 🙂

  17. Samantha

Anyone have any other wording ideas for the glow sticks. I think it’s such a cute idea. Would love to send them to my daughter’s school but we have a boy that has a crush on her and I don’t want to give him or any other boy the wrong idea.

    • Karen

I have just boys and was trying to find some ‘boy sayings’. For the glow sticks you could use, “Stick with me, Valentine!”, “You light up my life, Valentine”,

      • Samantha

Thank you Karen for the ideas

    • JA

Little late, but maybe “you brighten up the school” or something? Or you could just do “glow away” if he likes her too much! ( I’m kidding….sort of. Btdt, only with a girl in love with my son.)

      • Samantha

JA thank you for the ideas, especially Glow Away….wish I could send that.

  18. Amy

Does anyone have a cute idea for daycare kids, ages 1-3?

    • Raea

I do not know how the kids in my baby’s class will like them but we made these for her classmates age 18 months-3 years. I only did the one that has xoxo in glitter glue.
      https://www.momontimeout.com/2012/02/valentines-day-bracelets-craft/
Dollar tree had 32 pack (I think it was 32) of foam and 3 glitter glues in a pack and ribbon rolls all for 1$ each. I got four bracelets per sheet of foam.

  19. Suzan

Thanks for the wonderful idea… Printed mine out on cardstock and will be ready for Valentine’s Day early this year.

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

      You’re welcome Susan!

  20. lae

I have also used up candy canes from Christmas to use as a valentine. Put the 2 hooks of the canes together and they form a heart! 🙂

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

I love that idea too 🙂

      • lae

        Thanks!

  21. crossfitmom12

Thank you very much for sharing these. As a working mom, this is a great way to give something personal without a ton of work. I really appreciate it!

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

Oh well you are so welcome 🙂 glad you can use!

  22. Em

Aw I love these! We’re high raw vegan so I feel weird giving candy (the kids always have that option though and are allowed to eat whatever they want, but they choose not to) so we usually just find some bracelets or something, but glow sticks are way cooler. We’re eco freaks but every now and then it’s fun to do a little something special.

    • keb70

We’re fairly health conscious, too – last year we did this type of valentine using honey sticks. They were a hit!

  23. Melissa

I’ve been looking for the font that was used for the word “Glow”. Can you share the font you used? This is a great idea. Love it!

  24. Meg

THANK YOU! Such a cute idea.

  25. Becky

I always buy mine at Walmart on clearance. If you look in the party section the have glow stuff. If the package has a colored boarder it means it’s a seasonal item and will go 90% off. I pick mine up for 10-2 cents all the time.
