Tips for making the perfect chocolate avocado smoothie recipe:

  • Feel free to use your favorite type of milk and yogurt! I used dairy-free ingredients, but these can be altered according to your taste.
  • This rich smoothie is on the thicker side, so feel free to add more milk to achieve your desired consistency.
  • For best results use a ripe frozen banana in your smoothie for added sweetness. When bananas start to get overly brown on my counter, I peel them and keep a stash in the freezer for smoothies and banana bread.
  • I honestly think this would make delicious chocolate avocado pudding pops if poured into a popsicle mold and frozen. Yum!

An avocado smoothie recipe is such a nice change of pace!

I usually make berry or green smoothies, but it can be fun to switch it up a little and try something different. Customize this recipe by using your favorite milk and/or yogurt to fit your dietary needs and taste. If you use unsweetened milk and yogurt, you may want to add honey or another sweetener.

    • Tiffany

      Do you taste the avocado?

      • Suzyq

I use avocado all the time in my smoothies. It doesn’t really have much taste at all, it just makes your smoothie super creamy. 🙂

  2. MJ

Looking forward to trying this one! Thanks.

  3. Agata

if you do just avocado, cocoa powder, sweetner or sugar, and just enough water to get the blender going, it makes for a nice cake frosting, or pudding! 😉

    • April

Oh my gosh…thank you so much for the comment. We have lots of dietary issues but can do this for sure!

Avocado has very little taste on it’s own. My dd has a dairy intolerance, so I use avocado a lot. It’s great in smoothies to replace yogurt. I’ve made pudding with it. Hubby and I now prefer it to cheese on things like tacos and chili.

I am a dairy/gluten/nut intolerant vegetarian. I would love this as an alternative to my usual smoothies with coconut milk instead of almond. I would also recommend raw cacao powder instead of cocoa powder. It keeps the cancer-fighting anti-oxidants that are lost during processing into cocoa powder. It costs more, but I use the powder and nibs every day! Try Vitacost for a great organic source!

You can freeze your avocados too. Remove the pit first. FYI if you cut them up the stick together.

    • Gina

      They…

    • Krishna

      Do they still turn color?

This is very famous smooties in my country. I’m from.Indonesia (South east Asia), but.we make it without.banana and yogurt. So just avacado with water / milk ,.you can put Ice cube also to.make it cold and put little bit chocolate powder if u want , put little bit of honey to make it sweet and at the end put just very little sea salt ( only.little bit). Also you can put little bit ice cream if u want.

  17. April

My 2 and 5 year old love these!!

  18. Ruthy

wow!! So delicious 😄😄just made it. Thanks

Am I the only one who had this come out so thick, like pudding?? Recipe only calls for 3 Tbsp milk, this doesnt seem right. I must be missing something…help

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh easy fix! You can easily add more milk or water to get a thinner consistency.

  20. Julie

What can i use instead of bananas? I am allergic to them.

    • Lina

You can just omit. Maybe add a little ice instead and oats of peanut butter.

  21. Pat Goff

I don’t like chocolate. Wonder if you can do it with another flavor?

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Yes feel free to omit and create a berry banana version. Maybe use blueberries and banana. Check google for inspo. The avocado gives a creamy almost milkshake texture. Hope that helps!

      • Pat Goff

        Thank you Lina.
