Ingredients
- I packet active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 3.5 cups All Purpose Flour
- 1.5 Tbs butter
- 1 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup sugar
Directions
1
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
2
In the bowl of a stand mixer, dissolve yeast with warm water. In the microwave, melt butter with milk and cool liquidย until warm (not hot).
3
To the milk/butter mixture, add sugar, salt, and egg. Pour into stand mixer bowl. Add two cups of flour and use dough hook to mix on low until combined.
4
Add the rest of flour slowlyย and knead for a few minutes until dough forms. If too sticky, add a tablespoon of flour at a time.
5
Grease a separateย bowl, add dough ballย to it, and turn so it coats dough ball.ย Let dough rest,ย rise and double in size (this took about 45 minutes for me) Once dough has risen, roll into ball shapes and place in a greased pan.
6
Pictured is a 11x13 pan with 16 medium-large sized rolls. Let the rolls rest for another 15 minutes while oven is preheating to 350 degrees.
7
Bake for about 10-15 minutes or until browned. If you are baking larger sized rolls, they made need to bake for 20-23 minutes.
8
Brush with melted butter if desired.

Wow, good article, thanks Lina!
My kids like the Hawaiian sweet rolls. What would you change to make the sweet rolls? Thanks.
Check Pinterest! I typed in DIY Hawaiian sweet rolls and several recipes popped up! HTH!
Great idea thanks! I haven’t tried to make any of those yet so Shirley let us know if you try. ๐
This is the recipe I use all the time, yum: https://www.food.com/recipe/kings-hawaiian-bread-copycat-198480?soc=socialsharingpinterest
I use a recipe from allrecipes.com. It’s called Portuguese sweet bread. I know it’s wrong but I add extra sugar and mix in my bread maker but bake in the oven
Yummy!! โกโก TY Happy Thanksgiving ๐
Thank you for the recipe, just want to remind everyone to check your bread/dough making directions on your specific KitchenAid or other stand mixer, (this could be done in a bread machine dough cycle too), I know that mine specifically states which two settings can be used safely with the dough hook without damaging the motor, use of any other settings can damage the unit and those suckers are too expensive to mess up accidentally. Happy Baking ๐ You can find the answer to this question by looking in the directions/cookbook that came with your unit. If you can’t find yours, you can always check websites like https://www.manualsonline.com/
They look delicious and beautiful, Lina!
Thanks Julia!
Do you have to cover it to let it rise? If so, with what? A dry towel, a wet towel or plastic wrap?
Good question! I didn’t and noticed the top to be a little dry so next time I’ll try plastic wrap. Thanks
I’m wondering about making ahead for Christmas Eve dinner. Thoughts on the best way to do this? Do I need to bake as instructed and then reheat? Or assemble and then bake before serving?
So if your making ahead just by 24 hours or less, just make dough as directed and place dough balls in a greased pan and cover with plastic wrap. Then bake when ready.
For longer –>You could also make dough as directed, freeze dough balls , then thaw 3-4 hours in a covered greased pan, then bake.
Hope that helps!
Hope this helps!
Do you put them in the fridge if you are making ahead by a few hours or leave them out?
