99¢ Paint Samples

Through February 29th, Lowe’s is offering up Paint samples (any brand and any color) for just 99¢ (regularly $3.48)! Plus choose free in-store pickup if available near you; otherwise shipping is free on orders of $49 or more. What a great way to tackle a that project or just save on testing out paint colors!

Check out what Hip2Save reader Julie had to say:

If you have a small project (or just want to test out paint colors), this works out great because most sample size paints are around 8-31 oz each (depends on which brand of paint). This is a great deal compared to most craft paints at the craft stores that are around the same price for 2 oz. bottles.

Can you get the same price in-store?

  2. Britt

Is this available in store as well? Or just online?

    • Lauren

It was in the ad as well so they are in store too

  3. ThriftyNursingStudent

Just got 4 paint samples yesterday (in-store) to refinish some furniture products for this price! Great deal!!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Sweet! Thanks for sharing!

  4. VSS

Can these be used for craft projects?

    • sarah

Definitely — there’s whole Pinterest boards dedicated to it

      • Allison

        What are the boards called?

    • Jenny

Yes! As long as you are not getting oil based wall paint you can use wall paint as you would any acrylic craft paint. Not as washable so be careful.

    • Heather C.

Oh definitely! I use them all the time for small projects. They work great!

  5. Debbie

I was told by a worker at Lowes that the paint samples do not contain all the ingredients that regular paint does and that the sample paint does not last as long. Anyone ever hear this?

    • Allison

I’ve used paint samples on an accent bench and on a kitchen cabinet panel three years
      Ago and looks awesome still

    • jennifer d.

I was told that by a worker @ sherwin Williams too when I told him I was buying sample because I was striping a wall in bedroom and they didn’t sell half gallon or smaller in what I wanted. Went ahead and did the wall in my daughter’s bedroom, 2.5 yrs later and it still looks great. It might be thinner but I use them all the time for little projects and they hold up well.

  8. Suzanne H

Perfect timing – I have a few small projects that I need a little paint for!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Sweet!

  9. Andrea

If you order these online, understand you are only ordering the base. You will still have to have the store tint them.

  10. Sandra H

I bought some deep red and green samples that contain the primer and used them to paint canvases for Christmas projects last year. They worked great-covered canvas in one coat!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Oh cool! What a creative idea! Thanks for sharing!

  11. carrie8

There’s no way I can get to Lowes by Monday! So glad I can order these online and pick up in store later. Hoping to paint my kitchen this year. I have the colors picked (I think!) but getting samples is the next step to make sure I like them. Thanks for the heads up!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re very welcome!

  12. cathy

thanks! the lowes build and grow is tomorrow, so kill 2 birds with one stone! FYI some of the colors show the sale dates are through 4/25

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re welcome Cathy!

  13. mj

Does anyone know is it same price for a sample of custom color?

    • Sarah

It was 0.86 with my military discount yesterday. I picked from the colors since we are having a painter come in

  14. Jessi

Does anyone know if chalkboard paint is included?

  15. Deanna

What a great way to do little projects. And some of the smaller size samples are only $0.50 at my nearest store. Sweet!! Thanks!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      YW! 😀

  16. T

My store had a whole end cap of the Valspar for 50C each! I got 15 of them 🙂 Lots of great colors too!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Oh awesome!

  17. amanda

Does anybody know if this would be enough paint to do the interior side of my front door?

    • Daniel

Should cover 25 SQ Ft per half pint assuming 400 SQ Ft per gallon.

  18. TD

anyone know where i can get a sample of concrete stain? i just want to paint a stripe on my outside stoop (for some reason, everyone trips on it!!!)

  19. Ashley

I just ordered 21 sample sizes all 30 oz in size and paid under $30 for for in store pickup. They do charge tax and a .35 per can paint handling charge. They had to call me after I placed my order to get the color codes dues to a problem with their online system. Thank you for a awesome deal!

    • Angela

Curious what state you live in since you were charged the extra fee. Wondering if I will have to pay the same for MD?

  20. Angela

Just got a bunch of awesome colors for $.50 each! 16 samples for $8.48! Gonna knock some projects out with these. Thanks Collin!

  21. Lynn Brown

Ok someone had mentioned that lowes had to call them back because they had done a custom color… So do u have to tell them the color names when u order them or what? Very excited about this I’m getting ready to do some Huge Projects this year in my home I mean I’m totally changing the style of my home/Color would so love to find that perfect Gray Color that just stands out so nice . Just wish I could settle on a real Gray not purple looking or bluish that is flattering to anything.. Any suggestions Guys. Oh FYI I love hip2 save I can’t wait to see what’s posted everyday . Thanks for all you guys do .. Kentucky Chick

    • Jenn

I’m a KY chick, too, and I feel your pain!!! I want a “medium” gray. I have literally painted my bedroom twice and bought paint for a third time, only to paint a sample on the wall only to realize it was too brown. This time I bought two samples. I bought Heritage Grey and Owl Gray — which is actually a Benjamin Moore paint, but they can look up the formula. I hope I have it this time! Good luck to you! I have noticed in some of Collin’s post that she has pretty gray walls. Maybe she could tell what color she’s used.

  22. dgharmon63

Have used this deal before and it’s a great way to get good paint for a great deal. Sherwin Williams samples were 3x as large as the other brands so I went for them. Employee told me the other brands complained that they were all the same price so SW reduced their size. However, she told me that they had a few of the large size left but were only for darker colors. I said that worked for me so I scored 5 – 31 oz samples rather than the 8 oz but only paid .99 each.

  23. Jordan

So are the samples still on sale today?

    • dgharmon63

Yes, I believe the ad runs thru Wednesday!

    • Jenn

Runs through today, but most Lowe’s are out. I got two yesterday, and it was their last two.

  24. Tricia ruggiero

Anyone know if they are doing this anytime soon in 2017?
