My kids are picky when it comes to slow cooker meals, but they eat this meal every time without complaining! The sauce melts into a perfectly creamy texture and tastes great!

This is also really good using Campbell’s Golden Mushroom soup instead of cream Of chicken. When I make it like that I don’t add garlic. For healthier you can cut back on the cream cheese.

We make this using cream of mushroom soup, can of mushrooms, and also leave out the garlic. This is so good.

I used this as an appetizer filling. Cut pillsbury pie crust into circles, topped with chicken, cheese and chopped jalapeños. Folded over, crimped and baked till brown. Really good!! Then dip in salsa.

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

Wow- that would be good! Thanks Maria!

  7. Vivian

I made this from your previous post and it was great!! Thanks for the reminder!

  8. Jen S

I made this last night! After it was done cooking, I added a bunch of steamed broccoli and some noodles. Super yummy!

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

Yes love broccoli with it! Yum – Thanks Jen

  9. Laura

I made this tonight! It’s like you read my mind. My 6 year old even said “something smells really yummy” when he came home from school.

Is there a substitution for cream of chicken? (Trying to stay away from canned – processed foods:)

    • Tracy

You could make cream of chicken from scratch.

      • Luv 🌺

Any recipe suggestions for making it from scratch? I’m trying to avoid canned items as well. Thanks🌺

        • Sarah

I am not sure of the exact measurements but here is approximate that I have used: melt 1/4 cup butter in sauce pan, add 1/4 cup flour and stir until bubbly and thickened over medium heat. Add 1 cup half n half or whole milk and a chicken boullion cube and some pepper. Stir until thickened. Add more milk if too thick.

I also leave out the garlic and I actually use regular Italian seasoning instead of zesty, but I was wondering what I can do to make the cream cheese not stay so clumpy. I’ve tried mixing with the soup on the stovetop first, but even that still leaves itty bitty clumps of cream cheese. Any tips?

    • ihearthip

I give it a stir a few time throughout cooking time, also I make sure to let it cook long enough for the clumpiness to disappear. It eventually does.

You know what is funny, Americans have Italian salad dressing but Italians don’t even use salad dressing. They just use olive oil and vinegar. They think it is weird that it is called Italian salad dressing.

  13. Sandy Rahlfs

I use a version of this recipe rather frequently. Don’t put the cream cheese in until the end. Take the chicken out and shred it. While you are shredding the chicken, put a block of cream cheese in the crockpot with the soups/sauce. Let it melt and then put the shredded chicken back in. The cream cheese will be smooth then, no clumping. Serve over rice or noodles.

…You had me at “slow cooker” and “five ingredients”…. Thank you for sharing!

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

      Haha! Enjoy HBee! 😀

  15. ihearthip

This is a standard in my house. We love it on egg noodles. So Comforting. Thanks to Lina!!

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

Awesome- thanks so much for sharing! 😀

  16. The new Mrs Rowe

This is in rotation in my kitchen since y’all published it. It’s even low carb!
    Thank you very much!

  17. Maddiegail

    No other liquid??? Thanks.

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

No the juice from the chicken sort of combines with everything when cooking for a creamy sauce —thanks!

  18. prattva

animity – Funny also is that German Chocolate cake is not German at all! LOL -they have no idea what that is! And, Chinese fortune cookies are made fir Americans. They don’t eat those. lol

    • Precious

It used to be called German’s chocolate cake. The man who created it last name was German, but then the apostrophe got dropped at some point.

  19. Nikki barr

Just made something similar but instead of a whole packet of zesty Italian dressing you use half packet of ranch dressing and half packet of Italian dressing and ditch the garlic. It was delicious and I served it over pasta.

  20. Barb Halleman

I just printed this recipe. I love being able to delete sections I don’t want to print — one of my pet peeves is printing out a recipe and getting 1 page of recipe and 6 pages of comments/ads/etc. Wish more websites would use that feature!!

  21. Rebecca Page

I cannot wait to try this. My hubby is so picky and I just make the same few things over and over. This will be a GREAT addition to the schedule. Lol. He loves chicken and Italian, I’ll just lie about the other ingredients. Thank you so much for the great idea

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

Good luck and thanks for stopping by! 😀

  22. Jesse

I just made this. I added broccoli & diced green peppers. I followed the make your own Italian seasoning packet recipe. Holy smokes did this recipe taste like a bowl of salt! I think if you refrain from the tablespoon of salt it calls for this recipe would taste amazing.

  23. Ihearthip

I make this a lot 😋And often come here to look at the recipe. Am I crazy or did this used to include green beans?

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

Yes the freezer meal version had green beans! ✅Kind of a repost on its own since it’s so popular among readers ❤️

  24. Elyse

Definitely like only having 5 ingredients and just put them in with little to no prep time.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Yep, so simple and yummy too 👍

  25. BR

I used this as a guide tonight and it turned out pretty good. I changed out the Italian mix for a garlic and herb one and added some broccoli rice. I did not add the garlic because of the mix I used. I put it with rotini noodles. I added 1/4 cup of water to the crock pot and then to thicken it up at the end I added in some Parmesan cheese. Thanks for the recipe!

  26. Lorrie

Making this for dinner. No water needed? Can’t wait to try

  27. Caleb Landolfi

If I leave it in for more than 7 hours, will it burn?

  28. Jessica

Has anyone ever tried this without the cream cheese? Sounds delicious as is, but just not a huge fan of dairy…

  29. tammylawrence-daley

I make this in the oven (mom handed it down to me), we put stuffing on top and bake until crispy and the serve with veggies. One of my go to recipes!

  30. Chris

How much of the Italian dressing do I use if I use a homemade recipe? That would be nice to know.

      • Destiny

So just put in the zesty italian packet ? I dont have to add water and vinegar to make it into a dressing right?? So no liquid added?

  31. Barbara

I have a 1.5 quart crock pot. How big was your crock pot? Also, how do I modify it to my size?

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Hmm well mine is 5 qt I think. If the chicken breasts and ingredients will fit you could try it. Otherwise may need to halve recipe or slow cook in the oven instead on low? Just a thought.

  32. Stacey

This is so so so good!!! It’s now a weekly favourite!!

  33. Deborah Coch

    Can you freeze this?
