DIY Kid’s Artwork Display Wall
Are you looking for an easy way to display kid’s artwork and keepsakes?
If so, check out this large gallery wall that I created using 9 of these strip clips found at my local Target store and mounting tape (I prefer the tape as it’s easier than using nails and avoids a bunch of holes in the wall). The clips are actually very lightweight so the tape holds them without any issue. I hung three rows of three strip clip units, but you can hang as many or as little as you’d like.
I found these clips in the One Spot area typically located in the front of Target stores – these wood “Strip Clips” were available in different wood colors and were priced at just $3 each. Each unit has three clips so they are perfect for hanging art and/or photos.
I am having trouble finding anything similar online, so if you find something like these, let me know and I’ll add a link.
DIY Art Display Wall
Supplies Needed:
- $3 Clip Strips (I found them in the Target One Spot)
- Heavy Adhesive Mounting Tape
- Level Tool
- Measuring Tape
- Chalk and/or Pencil
Directions:
- Clean and dry the wall making sure to get rid of dust on the areas the tape will touch.
- Use a good leveling tool, measuring tape, and piece of chalk or a pencil to mark three straight and evenly spaced lines on the wall.
- Place mounting tape on the back of a strip clip and press against the wall using the line you marked as a guide. It’s also good to place the level on top of the strip clip as you press down.
- Repeat the process with the rest of your strip clips, and hang your art.
This was a pretty easy and inexpensive DIY project that has had a big impact on this room! I love to look at the colorful artwork my kids create and now we can easily move pieces around as new ones are made throughout the year.
I love it! I’ve always struggle with ways to display the kids artwork. That entire corner looks amazing!
Thanks so much Yessi!
Another thing that would be cute is using wood rulers, even a yard stick, and screwing/nailing/glueing on those clips, which you can find in office supply stores or office sections of other stores. Then just mount the ruler to the wall. 😊
Yes! Great idea. Yard sticks would be awesome!
I love the IKEA one! Great ideas!
What’s the name of it from Ikea?
The hanging system is called the IKEA Deka. Hope that helps! 🙂
It’s like you were reading my mind. Thanks again H2S!!
I copied an idea from my sister in law. Got 2 cheap curtain rods and curtain clips. Hung one above the other on a wall and put the clips on the rod to hold artwork. They look great and cost less than $15 for the pair and clips
I use floral wire from the dollar tree and clothespins…$2, they love it and it keeps the fridge less cluttered 😉
That’s a very clever idea! Thanks Sarah
So cute and so much cheaper than my land of nod ones! Just as nice. I wish I would have seen this before I sprung for the magnetic ones.
Thanks Shelby!
So cute!!!
Thanks Cami!
Thank you!!!
Will the mounting tape damage the wall or leave a sticky reside behind when removed? I’ve never used it before so just wondering before using.
I have used it for a few lightweight photo frames in the past without issue–I did just watched a video of someone removing it with a blow dryer to heat the adhesive and then using putty knife which looked like a smart way.
Hope that helps!
In my laundry room, I used fishing line and paper clips. I just used two pushpins as the anchors and tied the fishing line around each pin.
Love your gray paintcolor on the walls! What is the brand/name?!!
Thanks Jenn! I went through paint cans to look for you. ha ha —-Its Sparrow Blue by Behr
Thanks for checking on the color Lina!👍😊I have been looking for a color change for my mudd room/laundry room!
Oh sure! 😀
Can you give some info about your kids homework area, desk. We are looming for some ideas to create something like this next weekend before kids return to school. Any help and tips appreciated! Inexpensive but functional is our hope!!!
Hi April! This is the Algot shelving from IKEA. Inexpensive and easy to install. You can design so many configurations. I think ours was around 100-150. Ours is close to this one but doubled.

We use the ikea wiring system for our art display. I love how it goes well with our decor, and it doesn’t look tacky! My children love having their art on display!
Yes those are great too!
I put 2 command hooks on the wall and tied string to the hooks
Clothes pins hold artwork from string
Works great for us!
Smart idea!
i’ve done this but i used twine with command hooks that are clear and little clothes pins and it’s super cute!!
I used to staple my kids artwork and projects all around the walls of my (2 car) garage. We have high ceilings, so there was lots of room. Some of the art projects were quite large as they got older. They are now 25 and 27 and no longer live here. I still love to look at them! Reminds me of their younger days.
