5 Easy Halloween Ideas You’ll Likely Already Have the Supplies to Make
LOVE Halloween , but not wanting to spend lots of money on new seasonal décor?
If you’ll be decorating your home for Halloween, here are a few creative ideas to get you inspired to use common household items you may already have on hand to DIY your own! These are also fun opportunities to get the kids involved in festive craft projects.
1. Re-Purposed Coffee Container As Halloween Candy Bowl
If you drink Folgers coffee (or other coffee brands that are sold in canisters, as pictured above), hang onto the plastic container and re-use it as a Halloween candy bowl, or creative table centerpiece. I decorated mine as Frankenstein, but you could also paint it orange for a Jack-O-lantern, or white for a ghost.
To Get This Look:
- Apply a couple layers of green spray paint to container and let dry.
- Paint the top rim black using black paint or a black King Sized Sharpie as I did.
- Glue on large googly eyes and gray Crayola marker caps to the sides.
2.) DIY Trash Bag Spider Webs
Make spooky spider webs out of ordinary black trash bags by first laying them flat, cutting off the edges, folding it in triangles, and then cutting a branch shape. My bags had white writing on them, but no worries, I just turned them the other way when hanging. so it wasn’t visible.
Visit hefty.com for a helpful tutorial with photos to learn how. In full discloser, it took me a couple tries at first, but then I quickly got the hang of it and can make spider webs like a BOSS now. LOL!
3.) DIY Trash Bag Ghosts
Use white trash bags to make easy hanging ghosts. These are my son’s lightweight white plastic whiffle baseballs wrapped inside trash bags. You could also use white Styrofoam balls, white craft stuffing, or maybe even toilet paper rolls instead of balls. I have a roll of black chalkboard vinyl I always keep on hand to make my own pantry jar labels, and used that for the ghost faces.
To get this look:
- Cut the colored cinch portion off the top of bag if yours has one.
- Place the ball in the center, and gather bag around it.
- Secure with a piece of string, yarn, ribbon, etc
- Add face detail using black adhesive vinyl as I did, or black duct tape, felt, etc.
4.) Halloween Embellished White Candles
Embellish candles or glass jars using things you have on hand like first aid gauze bandages, googly eyes, black adhesive vinyl , or black duct tape. The white candles pictured are from Dollar Tree.
5.) Pillow Case Ghost Chair Covers
Ordinary white pillow cases can become cute temporary chair covers by cutting faces using black adhesive vinyl.
This was such a fun space to put together and I love re-purposing ordinary things! The trash bags really do make a big statement on the walls. We are all set for a Halloween party and the only thing I purchased new were the four dollar store candles! WooHoo!
Where’s the like button. Love it all!
