Off topic, sorry – does anyone have a washer affected by the Samsung recall? What do you plan to do? I am happy with the washer, (I do not use the highest spin however so never encountered any problems with like super excessive vibration) so I am thinking about the free in-home repair. But I have no idea what this repair is going to be, have you heard about what kind of lid reinforcement are they talking about? The washer is only one year old and this is what I got on the page:
Exchange rebate with purchase of Samsung washer: $496
Exchange rebate with purchase of Non-Samsung washer: $396
I am pretty sure the rest of the Samsung top loads are recalled too so I probably won’t be able to find a Samsung replacement and $396 will not cover a new washer of different brand with options my current washer has…
Thanks for all your inputs!
Sara, my advice is to get a non-Samsung washer. I think it’s ridiculous that they won’t give you the money that you actually need to replace the washer. I can’t say I’m surprised though. When we moved in to our house 3 yrs ago, we bought a Samsung fridge (mainly because all the salespeople at the stores we visited raved about Samsung). Within four months, the brand new fridge was not working – would not cool properly and it was making this horrible noise. We contacted Samsung and they gave us a credit to exchange the fridge. We stupidly got a new version of the same fridge and about 10 months later we had the exact same issue. At that time Samsung refused to refund us for this second fridge. So in less than two years, we had to get rid of two new fridges and we were basically about $1000 with no way of getting the money back. Samsung clearly knew they had manufactured and sold a lemon because after we had our issues we found numerous complaints online from people who had experienced the same problems with that model. Samsung products are no longer purchased in our home.
