Carving pumpkins soon? 🎃
If you’ll be participating in some fun Halloween carving activities this month, consider these simple and FREE printable designs to get prepared!
My strategy for carving pumpkins with my kids is to stick with the easiest and most simple designs. It helps to prevent them from losing patience and me having to finish everyone’s pumpkin. Sound familiar? 😉
Here are 9 easy pumpkin carving ideas that you can print for free below!
Pumpkin Carving
PrintSupplies Needed
- medium sized fresh pumpkin
- free printable template
- knives or pumpkin carving tools
- tape
- tea light candle or LED candle
Directions
1
Cut a circle around the stem large enough to fit your hand in. Remove all the guts and seeds. (Save the seeds to roast them later!)
2
Print a template and tape it to the pumpkin. Cut around the gray shaded area, and remove it.
3
Place a tea light candle or LED candle inside the pumpkin and enjoy your jack-o-lantern!
Tips for carving pumpkins:
- Medium and large-sized pumpkins seemed to work well for the sizing of these templates so keep that in mind when pumpkin shopping or take the template with you to pick one!
- We managed fine using knives, but if you have smaller kids, an actual pumpkin carving kit may be helpful to have on hand!
- A fun no-carve idea is to use a handheld cordless drill to drill holes in fun designs. We did this one year and it works great.
- Consider putting down an inexpensive plastic tablecloth and having the kids take out the seeds and insides over the plastic for easier cleanup. I used to have the kids do that part outside if warm enough.
- Don’t forget to set aside the pumpkin seeds to roast later on — check out our Everything Bagel Pumpkin Seeds on Hip2Keto if you need roasting inspiration! Or you can have the kids make pumpkin slime with the pumpkin guts!
For the Hip2Save logo pumpkin, I didn’t cut all the way through the skin, but rather shaved around the outline. Pumpkin carving isn’t my best talent, but we tried and had fun! LOL 😃
Even though my kids are older, we still try to gather each year and make a big batch of warm chili and carve pumpkins. My husband looks forward to the yummy roasted pumpkin seeds even more. It’s a fun way to make an evening of it.
Happy Pumpkin Carving!
