Get Your Craft On With These Simple & Pretty DIY Decoupage Easter Eggs
Need a fun and easy DIY Easter craft?
Consider checking out these brilliant decoupage eggs using paper napkins! It’s such a creative and beautiful way to decorate Easter eggs. I went with a pretty floral pattern – perfect for spring (feel free to pick a pattern that inspires you)!
This project can be completed with real eggs, or consider grabbing some wooden craft eggs. I found some nice ones on Amazon.
Hip Tip: If using real eggs, use a pin to poke holes on both ends of eggs. Then blow air to expel the inside of the eggs.
DIY Decoupage Easter Eggs
Supplies Needed:
- real eggs or wooden craft eggs
- paper napkins in desired patterns (Mine were found in-store at Tuesday Morning)
- decoupage such as Mod Podge
- craft paintbrush
- scissors
Instructions:
1.) Separate the bottom layer of your napkin and cut the patterned portion into smaller strips.
2.) Apply Mod Podge to egg using a paintbrush. Place a strip of paper and use your fingers to flatten and apply paper to egg.
You can also, instead, cut out certain details of the napkin to decoupage on your egg for a different look!
3.) Keep pasting strips of paper around egg until covered. Brush on a layer or two of Mod Podge to seal your work. Honestly, after a while you’ll be skipping the brush and just using your fingers! Go for it and have fun. 🙂
5.) Let dry completely.
Hip Tip: I created an easy DIY drying rack using a small empty cardboard box and toothpicks! It worked great, and it is a perfect way to protect eggs from getting messed up when you’re dying, painting, or decoupaging them.
These decoupage Easter eggs turn out so pretty!
I love how bright the colors are, and they truly don’t have to be perfect. After decoupage dries, your eggs will look amazing!

I am not a very crafty person, so could this work with plastic eggs?
Yes although you may get a different look with brightly colored eggs instead of white. I bet they’d still be pretty!
I may need to try this idea this year instead of dye. Nothing worse than dye all over your hands. Lol
I found some egg holders for when you are dying them at 5below. They kind of look like scissors at first glance, but they hold the eggs so you don’t have to use your fingers. Can’t wait to try them out!

Love the decoupage! I use patterned napkins all the time with Mod Podge. Christmas Tree Shop always has a great selection, especially seasonal. I buy plates and glassware at Dollar Tree to cover.

We did this on smooth rocks at a women’s retreat and I used the same napkin with flowers. After it dried, I stamped a Bible verse and it turned out so nice! I love that it is a quick craft and u don’t need to be crafty to make something nice.

I love this craft a lot! Mainly because my mother and I made these eggs…when I was young!
I am now almost 72, and I made these for my kids when they were little. The only difference is that we used styrofoam eggs with paper napkins. So…I again say to you and others, this is a fun, if a bit messy, craft. Oh, and I didn’t get clear through your directions so I don’t know if you used and glitter, but a little bit of what we called Diamond Dust…probably different now.

I have made similar eggs for many years and they hold up well. I use plastic eggs, school glue with a little bit of water added (could do without water also but helps thin in) and torn pieces of scrapbook paper. They are adorable and have held up over time, you can’t tell which ones were made from year to year.

Would tissue paper work or would that be too thin? I found a ton of pretty new colors and patterns at Dollar Tree today!
Fun Fact: I did the decoupage eggs several years ago and kept them!!! I DID NOT take the eggs out of the shells. I boiled the eggs before decorating them. They were so pretty that I hated to throw them away….so I didn’t. Each year when I drag them out to use again, I take a great big sniff to make sure they don’t stink. So far, so good……still using them. Once I had one get broken and it DID stink after it was broken. Eventually the egg inside the shell hardened and if you shake them you get a little rattling sound.
