Hop on over to Amazon where you can score this Frontline Plus For Extra Large Dogs Flea and Tick Treatment 6-doses for just $42.96 shipped (regularly $65)!
Frontline Plus provides fast and long-lasting treatment of fleas and ticks. It’s safe to use on dogs 89 – 132 pounds, and comes with a six-dose supply. Each dose offers 30 days of continuous protection – that’s six months of treatments!
Great price! Even the low cost vet clinic near me charges $14 for a one month dose, so this is a great deal!
Just wanted to share, I have used Frontline plus as a preventative on my dog and cats for YEARS, and last fall my cats got fleas. We were battling the fleas for months and even with daily brushing and applying Frontline every few weeks, we were still finding fleas on our cats. A friend recommended the Soresto flea collars and within 3 days all the fleas were gone! They last up to 8 months and I have one on all my animals. If frontline stops working for your pets, it may be worth a shot 😊
Oh cool! Thanks a ton for sharing what worked best for your pets!
I buy Revolution(not for ticks but is for fleas, ear mites, roundworms, hookworms) for my cats from discountpetmedication.biz. They have Nexgard, Seresto collars and the majority of the major brands for great prices. For instance Seresto collars start around $36. I get free shipping but it ships from Australia and takes a week and a half to 2 weeks to get here. I have always been pleased with their products and customer service.
Did you need a signed script from your vet? I tried to buy Revolution through 1 800 Pet Meds but the vet wouldn’t sign the prescription so we couldn’t get it.
Sometimes when you use the same product for multiple years, a tolerance is built up by the parasites in your area. Our vet recommends switching products every few years to keep them from becoming ineffective.
Frontline’s active ingredient (fipronil) is suspected by some vets of no longer being effective in some areas due to resistance. It’s one of the older flea prevention products, so fleas have had many years to develop resistance. The manufacture disputes that resistance is a problem. However, the shelter vets in my city stopped using it in the shelter because they perceived it as being ineffective. We also had to stop using fipronil products for our foster dogs because they did not prevent fleas. Advantage worked great though, as did newer products like NexGuard and Vectra3D. If Frontline still works in your area, there are many generics for it now that Fipronil is off patent. YMMV.
Also, I am very skeptical of “weirdly cheap” dog meds on Amazon due to Amazon’s severe problem with counterfeit and gray market goods. The risk of fake products is pretty serious. I buy from Vet-VIPPS certified pet pharmacies, which means I am guaranteed to get FDA-approved meds just like the vet sells. I especially love the customer service on ValleyVet.com. KVSupply.com is also pretty good. Costco and Walmart pharmacies also sell many flea and heartworm products for dogs.
Thank you for your reply, Maggie, very informative. I’ll be paying way more attention to the products I buy for my dogs from now on! 🙂
If you are using toxic based flea and tick products for your dog or cat, please read the warning labels. Each company conducts a study for maybe 30-60 days on healthy pets. The side effects are alarming and can include itching, vomiting, upset stomach, tremors, and seizures, just to name a few. These are pesticide and insecticide products. There are better all natural and healthier products out there for your pet and family that not only kill but also repel fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes.
Hey Danielle…We have been using Revolution on my dog who is over 11 now since he was a pup. 1-800-pet meds just contacts my vet and they approve. If it isn’t approved it is normally bc they want him to come in for his yearly checkup. I would call your vet and ask why. We are also using it on our puppy now too. Best stuff!
Ok so sorry! I clicked to comment under Danielle and now I see it didn’t.
