Amazon selling live Christmas Trees this holiday season like these decorated trees

Fir real. 🎄

Amazon is upping their game and their shipping box sizes. The retail giant plans to sell and ship full-size live Christmas trees this year, including Douglas firs and Norfolk Island pines. In other words, “Alexa – order me a live 7-foot Christmas tree!” won’t be unheard of this year! 😱

Although Amazon did sell shorter trees under 3-feet tall in 2017 (other merchants sold bigger trees using its platform as a marketplace), this is the first year that Amazon itself is offering larger trees.

The trees will be bound and shipped without water in a large box and will be sent within 10 days of being cut down – possibly even sooner. Amazon claims they should survive shipping just fine.

Amazon will also be selling live garland and wreaths along with live Christmas trees

Rumor has it that Christmas trees, as well as wreaths and garlands, will go on sale sometime in November 2018, and select items will even qualify for free Prime shipping. Plus, Amazon will even offer pre-orders so shoppers can choose a delivery date that best suits their holiday needs.

What will the prices be for these holiday decorations?

According to an Amazon holiday preview book, a 7-foot Fraser fir from a North Carolina farm will cost around $115. Also listed are a $50 wreath and a $25 red-leafed plant with a decorative candy cane speared into the soil.

I think this might be a convenient option if I didn’t have kids, but picking out the tree his 80% of the fun!

Thanks for the honest feedback, Ashley!

That price is really high! Maybe because we live in a place with pretty cheap trees, I would never spend that much on a 7 ft tree!

Sounds like a possibility for some. The trees may be fresher. On the other hand, I like supporting my local nursery where we get ours each year. I’m an Amazon prime shopper and love the benefits, but I’m not really thrilled with their elimination of competition. Lately I’ve noticed that more and more of their merchandise is a higher price than sold elsewhere.

I agree. Living in new england i can get a very nice tree much cheaper. But when living in florida, the cost of a tree was laughable.

  5. Sara Derge

Technically the trees are dead as soon as they’re cut. So unless Amazon is selling potted trees, they’re not selling them live.

$115 for a 7’ tree?! That is insane! I must be spoiled living in New England. There are cut your own tree farms everywhere…never paid more than $40 for a 7-8’.

    Amazon, stop it already…

Maybe it’s just me, but I would rather shop local than shop Amazon. At my house we have an artificial tree but I grew up with a real tree. This is just too much and I will continue to shop local for every day items rather than wait for their delivery. This can put too many small farmers out of business. No thanks.

Agree with what you said. Love my local nursery. They are so helpful.

We only have one cut-your-own tree farm around here. Others went out of business a couple years ago. You actually have to be on their list of established customers now to even buy a tree because the demand for cutting your own tree went up when the others went out of business, so we do pay a premium. But even with that premium, we still pay less than amazon (around $75 for a 7′ frasier fir) We also really enjoy picking and cutting the tree with the kids. We know we’re paying for that experience because we can get trees on pop up lots around town for close around $40. I just don’t think this is one service I’d ever use from amazon.

I love having a tree but hate having to pick it out and pick it up. This is awesome! I would definitely get a wreath and plant as well for my office.

    • Liza (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Being able to order a tree and have it delivered would be such a time saver! Ordering a wreath for your office sounds like a lovely idea! 🙂

People keep talking about saving time. Christmas is about making memories with your family. Picking out a tree and decorating it might have seemed like an annoyance when i was a kid but looking back i wouldnt change a thing. I am glad amazon delivery wasnt around to “steal” my memories (and some memorable family arguement memories LOL) i bet even the Griswolds would still choose to pick out their own tree squirrel and all !!

    • Aharv

Yay, I love your reference to the Griswolds!! I watch that movie every Christmas:)

      • *Angela-Miles*

Me too! Lol love Clark and his family shenanigans. 😉
I cherish those family memories also of me and my siblings getting a tree and decorating it!! 🙂

I find it scary how amazon is trying to eliminate any competition for Just about any item in the world. I am a prime member myself to save money on certain things, but the idea that one day amazon could be the only store that exists is disturbing. That is expensive for a tree and I feel bad for local shops, plus going to get a tree is a nice family activity.

  13. Mandy

I literally order my tree from VT in a box every year! Yay for Amazon to join

  14. Leo

This is nuts. I must be spoiled in LA. Never paid more then $40 ever. Usually $25 is all I pay. Never met anyone who paid more then $50 and I’m not 16 or 35 any more.
