Organic Grocery Store Earth Fare Is Closing All of Its Locations
After 45 years, an organic grocery store is saying goodbye.
Earth Fare, a specialty natural and organic grocery store with 40 locations in 10 states, has announced that it will be closing all of its stores. The company has already begun the closure process with inventory liquidation sales at all of its locations, while simultaneously attempting to find potential buyers for its stores. A company spokesperson said in a press release,
“Earth Fare has been proud to serve the natural and organic grocery market, and the decision to begin the process of closing our stores was not entered into lightly. We’d like to thank our Team Members for their commitment and dedication to serving our customers, and our vendors and suppliers for their partnership.”
Liquidation sales are underway now with “a truly outstanding assortment of merchandise at very significant price reductions,” said the press release. This includes up to 30% off items such as meat, seafood, and produce, according to additional information sent in an email from the company. Store fixtures will eventually be available for sale as part of this process as well.
Earth Fare opened in 1975 as “Dinner for the Earth,” selling bulk goods and health supplements in Asheville. It later became “Earth Fare” in 1994 after expanding into a full-service store. It operated under a pledge to sell products that are free of artificial colors, fats, flavors, preservatives, sweeteners, trans fats, and high fructose corn syrup.
Keep up with all the latest news of store closures, bankruptcies, and safety recalls!
I went yesterday and the only thing 30% off was supplements. Most of the store was only 10% off and I think fresh meat was 20% but I’m not sure because I don’t eat meat:) They are using that “up to” to get people in the store. You may want to call before going if it’s a drive for you so you have the correct expectations.
why are all these great stores closing? Luckys also closed, now this one 🙁 They were so much cheaper than Whole Foods!
Sprouts will be next
Our Sprouts is TERRIBLE, so I wouldn’t be surprised. We bought a loaf of “fresh baked” French bread there once, and it was literally crunchy all the way through like a crouton. Ridiculously stale. Also all of their salmon has red dye added! I refuse to eat anything form their meat/seafood department. I do not expect that from a “health” food store! I do appreciate the good sales they have on shelf items, but I doubt that is enough to keep them afloat for too long.
Bummer! I LOVE our Sprouts! The produce and meat is always so fresh! The bakery section is very small and not much selection so I’ve never tried anything.
We don’t have an Earth Fare, but I have a friend that’s a manager at one. So sad for the employees.
I hope not I love Sprouts, I drive about an hour and 25 minutes to shop at the one closest to me, I try to go several times a year…
I don’t go to the Baton Rouge Sprouts anymore. That store engages in false advertising. The sale price in the ad might be 4/$5, but what it doesn’t say is that you have to buy 4. You won’t find out about that condition until you get to the store.
Sorry, but I don’t consider that false advertising…
It is false. They are not disclosing a critical piece of information in the ad. The ad reads as if you could get one for $1.25 when you actually can’t. They are advertising one sale when it is actually a different sale. 4/$5 is not the same as 4/$5 when you buy 4.
My son works @ Earthfare. It’s his 1st job and he enjoys it there. And I have always loved shopping at Earthfare. I am deeply saddened to see them close.
My son also works for EF. Such a sad day for them. I’m going to miss that employee discount!
This crazy. Ours was just built a few months ago. Its brand new…
Same here.. Ours has only heen open about 7 months in NC. Sad to see it go…
Seems like it’s just gonna be Amazon on Walmart in the future. Sure hope not. I miss the small town stores so much. It is difficult/impossible to compete.
Ours just closed in VA. I got tons of wine 50% off plus an extra 20%. Had some great deals.
