This house is located in Newport, Rhode Island, nestled on the water. It features four bedrooms, three full bathrooms, and two half-baths.
If you’d prefer a cash prize instead of the home, you can opt to receive $750,000 cash, and you’ll still get the Motorhome and the additional $250,000 cash prize – so awesome!
Good luck, and be sure to let us know if you win! 🤞
Such a beautiful house…. except I hate almost all the paint colors and why does every bathroom have the same tile? Still would love to live there though. Paints easy enough to change 😂
Thanks for posting
How much would you have to pay in taxes after accepting the prizes? 😅
Great question, Belle! I’m willing to find out… 🙂
Most winners can’t afford to keep the homes because the tax burden is so massive, so take a cash payment instead. Which they pay taxes on, but far less than if they kept the house. Here is an article discussing the matter: https://www.countryliving.com/real-estate/a16751880/hgtv-dream-home-winners/
Sell the house instead of keeping it when you win! That’s what I would do.
Eva,
Does that make better financial sense instead of opting for the cash instead? Please advise. Tia.
Thanks h2s crew for all you do!
Lisha, depends on your patience/tolerance/finances. If one took possession of the home, someone would have to maintain it (utility bills, upkeep (grass), property taxes would still need to be paid along with the winning tax to be paid… all until it sold (either via a realtor who gets a commission or selling without one). Personally, I wouldn’t want the headaches and would take the money and run. While some will say but, but….the house is worth this. A house is worth only what someone is willing to pay. Good luck to you. This is a beautiful prize.
What a beautiful house. I enjoyed seeing all the use of color! I live on the west coast, so I would have to sell it.
Me too, love the colors. Those blue cabinets would probably be my favorite thing in the house! 😄💙
My wife and daughter drove by this house last month. It was beautiful from the outside, we have been anxious for this sweepstakes to begin.
Are these ever real ? I feel like they just give away to someone they know.
100% real, my friend won. She’s a totally “normal” real person lol. Our husbands served in the Air Force together. She won the house in 2010 Ish in Florida where they eventually want to retire (next to her home town) They had to take a loan to pay the taxes but are doing well. Rent it out some and donate many weeks to Wounded Warriors, Make a Wish or similar. Couldn’t have happened to nice people.
*NICER people!!
They are. The 2016 Dream Home was only 10 mi from where I currently live in Florida. The winner took the payout, and it took a couple of months for the Dream Home to sell on the market here (it went for $200k below list price).
I always enter the HGTV House Contest. Beautifully decorated house. Good luck to all contestants:)
I really just want that motor home!!! That would be a dream come true to travel across the US.
The insurance and taxes on this house $$$$$, I have won a couple of their sweeps in the past. Good luck
Its actually in Portsmouth , RI about 12 miles from Newport and it’s not really waterfront (if you’re thinking beach house—no) Its near a river. But still….I’d take it!
I live in Portsmouth and I would love to win the dream home. Being from here for generations dating back to Anne Hutchinson and Roger Williams I love my town. There is no need to ride on the coat tails of Newport RI. I think it’s nice when someone wins that doesn’t have to relocate or sell the home. Nice decor but way too nautical. If you’re from here a little bit of the collegiate, yuppie and nautical themes go along way. The area has become so overpriced that a large amount of the local population has to relocate off of the Island. Yes we’re on an Island called Aquidneck Island.
Please replace this designer. Last year he did an awful job with paint colors. Same thing this time. Too much red, white and blue theme throughout. Colors way to vivid for larges spaces and don’t blend well (just like last year ugh). He is a lousy designer!
