Have You Purchased Chicken Since 2009? You May Be Eligible to Receive a Settlement Payment
Settlement alert!
If you bought chicken between 2009 and 2020, you may be eligible to receive a payment for a class action settlement for $181 million.
That’s a long span of time, and the settlement involves some of the largest poultry producers around, including Fieldale Farms Corporation, George’s, Mar-Jac Poultry, Peco Foods, Pilgrim’s Pride, and Tyson Foods. It was alleged that the large companies conspired together to “stabilize the price and supply of chicken,” which violates federal and state consumer antitrust legislation.
Purchasers of fresh or frozen raw chicken (excluding meats marked as kosher, halal, organic, or free-range) from these states may be eligible for a settlement: California, District of Columbia, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, and Wisconsin.
If you’re from one of the above states & you’ve bought chicken in the last decade, it’s highly likely that it was from one of these giant producers. In order to receive a potential settlement, consumers are urged to submit a claim by December 31st, 2022, at the Overcharged for Chicken website or by calling 1-877-888-5428.
The total payout per consumer is yet to be determined since it relies largely on the number of people who sign on as claimants, who will split the remainder of the settlement after legal fees. The payments probably won’t start rolling out until next year at the earliest since the settlement’s approval is pending a court hearing on December 20, 2021.

Whatever happened to the premier protein lawsuit? I sent in my receipts and never heard back.
It paid out about 2 years ago.
I sent receipts for that too. Maybe contact them?
What ever happened to Yahoo lawsuit ?
Yes, explain!
I feel this issue has impacted way more states than what is listed. Just personal opinion.
Now as far as bacon…our previous $4 brand is nearly $9 with tax. 🤪
That is because of the new laws about pork producers in California. So now we all have to pay inflated f prices because they want pigs raised in glass houses with silk sheets.
Good for California if we don’t want to pay for the animals to be treated better we shouldn’t eat meat 🙂
😂🙄
You’re right Bobby not only are we going to kill the animal to eat it let’s torture it up until it dies…that’s the human way right 🤣🙄
I knew the response would be entertaining 😃
Stop eating food from CA then and buy local, buttercup
I’m with you, Monique.
👍
Stand up, lie down, turn around, and stretch their legs. I believe that is all the California law was asking for and it was only in reference to pregnant pigs. Hmmm… silk sheets? 🤷🏻♀️ Right why should a pig be able to stand up 😳😔
👏 👏 👏
I wonder about about the states that are not on the list. What makes chicken sold in NJ different from chicken sold in NY?
Answering my own question, I think it has to do with state consumer law.
I live in Pennsylvania and we can for sure buy Tyson, not sure why the state matters.
it’s possible that in the states that are NOT included in the settlement, these brands were not able to “stabilize the price and supply of chicken,” so the same wrongdoing was not found in those other states?
I wondered the same thing. I’m in Louisiana and bought Tyson chicken during that time too.
NJ is a completely corrupt, screwed up state. That’s why NJ isn’t on the list. I used to complain to individual grocery stores that when I bought Tyson chicken like that in the photo, I would go home and weight it and it always weighed substantially less than what was on the package because we pay for the packaging and the little diaper under the chicken which is soaked with meat juices. That alone weighs about a half pound.
So I am assuming even if you used to live in one of the listed states, but no longer do, you do not qualify? Am I correct?
I applied but I just moved to Colorado. I didn’t see any specifics about your current residence.
Or watch Game Changers on Netflix and rethink your need for meat.
I just got a class action settlement from McCormick Seasoning for $3.13. I don’t even remember joining this suit. Probably this chicken thing will result in the same kind of low payout per person. Still, money is money!
I like chicken my favorite one is Tyson I cooked chicken every other week since 2000 and I still cooking chicken on the grill every other week
While this sounds great in theory, I wonder how this lawsuit will affect the price of chicken going forward, after the large manufacturers shell out all this money to consumers and lawyers. In the end, nobody but lawyers will walk away with a smile, but they, too, buy chicken, so it will affect them as well.
Yes, we have bought chicken for years, yes, extra money is good, but I am hesitant to take part in this.
Interesting to learn that someone(s) and s/are watching out for us people. It’s time the poor get something back.
It’s about time we get back for these “high” prices. Where is the “form” for the ppl to complete?
Think more states bought chicken dudes these times and from these brands. How do we find out why our state is not there?
