Make Gooey Cinnamon Monkey Bread Right In Your Crockpot Slow Cooker!
Treat your family to this delicious Crock-Pot idea!
Consider baking yummy Crockpot monkey bread using store-bought biscuit dough as a special breakfast or dessert idea. It’s super convenient and fun to make using a slow cooker.
I enjoy experimenting with unexpected dishes that can be made easily in a Crockpot slow cooker like lasagna, lava cake, and now I can add cinnamon sugar Monkey bread to that list!
Crockpot Monkey Bread tastes like a combo of sticky buns and cinnamon rolls!
In case you haven’t experienced monkey bread before, it’s a soft and sticky sweet pastry dish baked using small pieces of dough dipped in cinnamon and sugar. It’s an idea that’s adaptable to taste, so there are lots of variations and add-ins like nuts and raisins to consider.
We have made a cinnamon apple version and also pumpkin spice monkey bread recipe in the past so if that sounds yummy, check those out too!
For this Crockpot recipe, I am making a basic 5-ingredients version with some walnuts that are yummy, but totally optional if you’d prefer yours to be nut-free.
I’ve also finished it with a simple cream cheese drizzle that is optional as well. It’s sweet enough on its own, but the cream cheese frosting makes this Crockpot monkey bread over the top delicious!
A few recipe tips to keep in mind when making Crockpot Monkey Bread:
-
- For easy clean-up, I recommend covering the bottom of the slow cooker with parchment paper. I used a couple of these pop-up sheets and it worked out great!
-
- Pillsbury Grands biscuit dough works great for monkey bread. I love how flaky and puffy it gets and it’s so delicious with cinnamon and sugar!
-
- The baking time could vary a little depending on how hot your Crockpot slow cooker runs, so check towards the end of cook time to be sure it doesn’t burn (2 hours and 45 minutes seems to be perfect using my slow cooker).
-
- Keep this delicious bread warm and gooey using the warm setting on the slow cooker while waiting to serve. Such a great perk of “baking” in the Crockpot!
Crockpot Monkey Bread
yield: 8 SERVINGS
prep time: 15 MINUTES
cook time: 2 HOURS 45 MINUTES
total time: 3 HOURS
Warm gooey cinnamon sugar bites of flaky dough pastry made using the Crockpot for convenience.
Ingredients
For the Monkey Bread:
- 16.3 oz package of flaky biscuit dough (such as Pillsbury Grands 8-count)
- 1/3 cup butter, melted
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon sugar
- 1/4 cup chopped walnuts (*optional)
Cream Cheese Glaze (optional):
- 3 tablespoons cream cheese
- 2/3 cup powdered sugar
- splash of vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons milk
Directions
1
Prep a slow cooker with parchment paper on the bottom, or spray using non-stick cooking spray.
2
Remove the 8 biscuits from the packaging and cut each one into 6 pieces.
3
Grab a gallon-sized Ziploc bag and add granulated sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon to it. Shake well to combine.
4
Dunk each piece of dough into a bowl with melted butter, then place it into the plastic bag filled with cinnamon and sugar. Once done, shake the plastic bag to coat all the pieces.
5
Pour remaining melted butter in the Crockpot slow cooker. Place each ball of dough in a single row on the surface of the entire oval-shaped slow cooker. If using nuts, sprinkle those on top.
6
Close the lid and cook on LOW for about 2 hours & 45 minutes. Check on things towards the end of cook time to make sure it's not burning. The dough should be soft, yet cooked through.
7
Optional step: Whip up the cream cheese frosting ingredients in a bowl using a hand mixer. Drizzle the frosting over the top.
8
Serve warm and enjoy!
This tastes like it came from a fancy bakery!
My family loved this idea, in fact my teen son tried to take off with the whole Crock-Pot like we wouldn’t notice! LOL!
Plus, you save yourself from the heat (and some money on your cooling bill) by avoiding having to turn on the oven for this recipe.
Enjoy!
I had no idea you could use parchment paper in a crockpot! Do you think it would be okay in the Ninja Multi-cooker style Crockpot?! These look delicious and easy!! Thanks I can’t wait to try it!
Ya I think if it has a slow cooker function should do well- enjoy!
I may have missed it, but approximately how many people would this recipe feed? Thanks!
Thereโs about 8 rolls total so thatโs probably about a good guide – so about 8
I wonder if you could prep it all the way through the night before and just dump into crockpot the next morning?
I would say yes. ๐ great idea!
I made instant pot monkey bread this morning!
Oh thatโs fun!
That sounds like a great idea! Would you be able to share the recipe for the instant pot? Thank you!
Hi Lina,do you think I could double this recipe? Or do you think it may not turn out ? I have a seven quart slow cooker. Any help would do ? Thnks. God bless.
Ya I thought about that too – but unsure how the middle would cook if we stacked another row. If you try let us know! Thanks so much for stopping by today!! ๐๐
Did you use a “large capacity” slow cooker, Lina? I used a small capacity (5-6 cups, I think) and had about 2 layers. Although the bottom was “done”, the ones on top were not. I ended up flipping them over (somewhat), using a large spatula and continued cooking on low for about 20 mins. I was probably better off just using the oven and being done in about 20-30 mins. But on a hot/humid Iowa day, the slow cooker is the way to go for sure to not heat up the kitchen, just remember to use a large-capacity slow cooker. Or, I’d recommend cutting the recipe in half if all you have is the smaller size.
Any one know of a keto version? Maybe with Fathead dough?
Here’s a Keto Cinnamon roll recipe for you: https://hip2save-com-develop.go-vip.co/hip2keto/recipes/keto-cinnamon-rolls/
I made this tonight and I don’t recommend it…..it’s too good! My family wouldn’t stop eating it and I only got a little bit and they are already begging me to make it again lol Very good, thanks for sharing!
Haha so true it disappears fast!
Will the crockpot liners work in place of the parchment?
I would think so. Thanks for sharing, I didnโt think of those ๐
Great special treat when I splurge from my diet.
