best brush for tangled hair

Do you or your kiddos struggle with tangled hair?

If so, consider switching to this type of curved detangling hair brush by Perfehair! It’s truly the best!

I used to have this same tangled hair struggle daily with my daughter when she was younger. She often woke up with the craziest tangles – and also has a super-sensitive head! So needless to say, mornings weren’t always the easiest. 😬

Even though my daughter is now 12 years old, she still struggles with tangles and this painless hairbrush sure helps. 🙌

brushing a girl's hair

Mornings can be super frustrating trying to get kids going, so choosing the right brush can be tricky — & I’ve tried tons of hairbrushes. Some of them have even been pretty expensive and disappointing.

I know that the Wet Brush is a popular choice, but in our case, this curved detangling hair brush still seems to work best for my daughter’s thick, wavy hair. Even better, scroll down as we’re sharing a promo code to help you save on this brush!

curved vented brush

This curved vented detangling brush is my personal FAVORITE, and here’s why.

Years ago, a friend of mine witnessed my struggle and pulled out this curved detangling brush from her purse, and I ordered it immediately via Amazon!  It worked 100x better than the paddle brush we were using.

The wide-set bristles combined with a contoured shape makes all the difference as they allow you to easily brush through the thickest hair.

brushing wet hair with detangling brush

This detangling brush seems to work well on wet, dry, thick, or wavy hair!

Hair can be dry or wet, and this brush detangles it either way! In my experience, though, it is a bit easier to comb through wet hair after using a leave-in conditioner or detangling spray.

Hip Tip: I also sometimes make DIY Hair Detangler using a leave-in conditioner, water, and a spray bottle. It has helped tame the tangles when using it before brushing.

I don’t often get excited over something as simple as a brush, but these brushes have worked awesome for us, and many years later I am still using them!

We have multiples of these brushes because at a price point of around $13 it’s inexpensive to stock up. I keep one in each bathroom, in a beach bag, and also have one that stays in the car.

best detangling brush

Here are the top reasons I LOVE this Curved Detangling Brush:

  • It does a fantastic job detangling and there’s no painful pulling like other brushes. The large brush easily slides through thick hair.
  • I’m not the only one who is a fan of this brush. Check out all the great reviews on Amazon!
  • It’s ultra-lightweight and easy to hold, even though the size is large.
  • It works on both long and short hair, straight and wavy. Plus, we use it on both wet or dry hair.

person blow-drying hair

I also use this brush to blow dry my hair!

Not only is this a great brush to consider for tangles, but it’s a perfect venting brush to straighten hair while blow-drying. I use it first when drying my hair and then finish with a round brush for volume.

I hope this post has been helpful if you’re struggling with finding the right brush for tangles!

Thank you! We have been using the wet brush for a while, but not loving it. Hopefully my toddler will like this much better! 🤞

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Sure! Yes – I hope so too! Let us know 🙂

    • Lauren

Cantu for kids detangler was a game-changer for my toddler’s hair 🙂

I have two of these brushes and they are my absolute favorite and they are definitely the best hair brushes I’ve ever had. I have thick curly hair. I got them from Marshalls. My only complaint is that the end of the bristles are falling off after a year so that makes the bristles scratchy and uncomfortable to use on your head.. I see on Amazon there are two different choices for which kind of bristles you get. I wonder which kind is better?

    • jenn

I think I got mine at Sally’s beauty supply. Great quality…I don’t see the ends coming off these bristles anytime soon…

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Ya I’ve had these for years and the ends are still on each bristle. I have the one without the boars head bristles in between.

    • Erin

How much (approx.) are they at Marshall’s?

I may have to try this, although the Wet Brush was an absolute game changer in my book. I keep a hairbrush everywhere (purse, bathroom, bedroom, car etc…) so i know id use it. Thanks!!

Just when you think you’ve got the right one, there’s a better mousetrap..

I have that brush & hate it. The bristles are too stiff & pull out my hair. Me & my daughters prefer Tangle Teezer type brushes.

As I can see in the photo’s not for all types of hair. 🤔🤔

    • Ap927

Yeah, I’m like maybe this is the best for straight hair, which is all I see. Consider Wonder brush for curlier/coil-ier hair types. Disappointed by this post. Very exclusive.

      • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

We changed the wording a bit on the post, however the seller states good for both straight and curly hair. I can only report back for mine and my daughter’s hair and what worked for us. Did not mean to be exclusive – thanks!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Hi! The amazon listing says for straight or curly and all hair types, but I did go ahead and remove the word “all” from the post.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Thanks for sharing!

I never use a brush for my hair. I mostly just use my fingers to detangle and style(nothing fancy). I think I use my wide-toothed comb the most when I “wash” my hair. I quit using shampoo years ago and now I just sort of rinse with water. I guess you could say I do the same stuff I did with my hair when I used shampoo, but with just water. After I finish my routine with my hair in shower I use my wide-toothed comb to detangle and that’s it. My hair has never looked better! I’ll never go back to using shampoo

Got this brush last time you posted & we love it. I’ve always felt a hair pick gets through tangles the best & this brush (without boar bristles) is like a multi-layered pick! Works great on my daughter’s hair, especially if I go at the tangles with a lifting pattern like you would with a hair pick. Cuts hair brushing time in half! Thank you for posting!

    • tiffany

We also use it in the bathtub with conditioner, so easy!

      • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

        Yes, that’s a great idea!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Thanks Tiffany for sharing!

  11. Lauren

I’m not sure I’m buying your claim that it’s good for curly hair. No chance that’d work well for type 4 hair, and I really doubt it’d be good for type 3 hair (maybe 3a). Please be more mindful when saying it works for “all” hair types. It works for *most* white hair types.

    • Lori

She was simply using the seller’s wording. And sharing her personal experience with it. No way one brush will work for absolutely everyone.

      • Lauren

I get that; I just want to be clear that saying this works for “curly” hair is white-centered. It may work on some white curly hair, but likely doesn’t work on Black curly hair. Black women are often an afterthought in the white-dominated hair care industry, so just pointing out an area for improvement and inclusion. 🙂

        • queen62

I agree with you 100% most of the photo’s are of Caucasian people.

        • Julia

I don’t think there is a single post that Hip2save has ever posted that works for everyone. Which is why it’s your job to do your own research. Everyone is “included” in every post. It’s up to you if you look at it or buy it. Give me a break! Everyone has to much time on their hands.

    • Shoppingfan

Lauren & Queen62 I understand what both of you are saying. I was looking at this one too I had to skip past it. If you are looking for a decent brush, my daughter has 4c hair I bought the Curltastic brush. It’s amazing!

      • Lauren

        Thanks for the recommendation!

    • Emily (Hip Sidekick)

Hi all! We hear you on the comments regarding the hair types for this brush, so I’ve gone ahead and updated the post to explain this brush works well on “wavy” rather than “curly” hair. Thank you for discussing this here and we’re happy to make sure the wording on our end doesn’t cause any confusion.

    • Oobservant mom

I’m not sure why race needs to be brought into things. Everyone needs to do their own research on the type of brush they buy. Hip2save was only posting the information the seller had listed. It is up to the consumer to do the research and then make the choice whether to buy or not buy. I’m so sick and tired of race being brought into everything! Lastly, if you *think* Hip2save can’t make claims that it works for all hair types, then you also can’t claim it doesn’t work for specific hair types. It’s a 2 way street.
