For those of wondering what these really taste like, I’m trying out my first package today.
Crispy and just short of being flaky, with flavor hints of caramel, light molasses, and sweet spices. I could imagine myself eating these unfilled, as they are much like a blind and lighter flavor of Biscoff and Speculoos.
The filling, what a surprise, not the usual very firm and solid creme here, a more whipped and creamy version that stays together when you take a bite. The filling tastes nothing like tubs of cream cheese frosting, smartly keeping the gooey texture and artificial cheesecake flavor out of the game. Cream cheese is there but almost has that flavor of a touch of pineapple that can make a carrot cake sing.
Benson’s Carrot Cake Cremes don’t leave me with the impression I just had carrot cake but they ring the bell in that neighborhood. With nicely balanced textures, flavors, and sweetness, I could see myself purchasing these on a regular basis year around, or at least want them as a winter “Speculoos” sandwich variety. Definitely different but will be enjoyable to most.
