This Reader Created Her Own DIY Advent Calendar Thanks to the 40% Off Hobby Lobby Sale!
Instead of purchasing the perfect Advent Calendar, try DIY-ing it!
There’s no better way to count down the days until Christmas than with an Advent calendar! You can’t beat receiving a little treat every day as you celebrate this cheerful season. As you’ve probably seen, there are tons of Advent calendars on the market, but if you haven’t found the perfect one or the options you’ve seen are too expensive, take a few notes from this week’s Happy Friday reader, Diana, and try creating your own!
Diana created her very own Advent calendar using only three items, all from Hobby Lobby while taking advantage of their current 40% off holiday items.
“I love to create and craft. Hobby Lobby is already in full swing with 40% off Christmas. I went to browse and found a fun and easy craft that my kids are super excited about for the upcoming season. We love advent calendars at our house. I found this unfinished paper mache Advent calendar and some super cute Christmas paper packs, along with some rub-on numbers.”
Paper Mache Advent Calendar $9.59 (regularly $15.99)
Christmas Paper Packs starting at $4.19 (regularly $6.99)
Number Stickers starting at $2.49
“The best part is that you can personalize it with your own trinkets and treats and reuse it again and again. It was so simple and fun to make that I purchased a second one to give as a gift. Thanks, Hip2save, for always helping feed my creativity with the best deals and posts!”
What a perfect, family-fun-filled activity to get us excited for the upcoming holiday season! This would be so fun to gift to others and fill the Advent calendar with some goodies a loved one would enjoy.

Looks great and I’m sure it was a fun project. I like that you can reuse it plus add whatever treats your family likes! Thanks for sharing. 🙂
I did this and i buy I Christmas Lego to put in it. Each day has 1 page from the book and the legos to go with it. After the whole month the lego is assembled.
What a clever idea!
Thanks for the idea! I’m gonna let my kids make a calendar for each other.
So cute!!
Our advent calendar when the kids were small had slips of paper with activities on them. I gathered up everything we’d need in advance. There were things like, make Christmas cookies, watch a Christmas movie and make popcorn, make birdseed ornaments to hang outside, decorate the tree, make clay ornaments (1 day) and paint the next. A few of them would be clues to where small gifts could be found, like a new book or a coloring book. Lots of fun!
I went right to the Hobby Lobby website and filled my cart with (more than) enough to make three of the paper mache calendars. Then I saw their ridiculous shipping charge and left. Went back quite a few days later and saw “free shipping today only” so I jumped (and got Rakuten). Probs cost less than $12 each completed – – including making small cards with an activity (read a Christmas book, wrap presents) and a small candy. I’ll use the extra paper for cards and gift tags. This is the perfect size for display and storage. So happy I saw this post and was able to copy it, thank you.
