Blend up a Pitcher of Coquito, Puerto Rican Eggnog for Adults!
This creamy coconut and cinnamon blended cocktail drink recipe called Coquito is often referred to as Puerto Rican eggnog.
Looking for a unique adult cocktail idea this holiday season?!
Consider making a batch of creamy coconut Coquito to celebrate with friends and family! Coquito means “little coconut” in Spanish and is a popular Puerto Rican tradition to make during the holidays.
The best part is it’s easy to whip up a batch in the blender and then store it in the fridge until you’re ready to serve.
I am in love with this smooth sweet coconut drink and I know you will be too!
Coquito’s creamy thick texture is sort of like a coconut version of eggnog without the eggs. The cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove spices add lots of festive flavors and you can even add shredded coconut to the rim for a yummy and beautiful presentation.
During the Christmas season, it’s quite popular to make Coquito, bottle it, and give it to friends as gifts. A jar of Coquito will keep stored in the fridge for up to a month!
I loved learning more about making this Coquito recipe as a Puerto Rican family tradition!
My mom came to my house the other day and we made this batch together in the kitchen. Her parents were both from Puerto Rico, and she has fond memories of this drink growing up. You can leave out the rum so it’s a sweet treat for the whole family. My grandparents would freeze non-alcoholic Coquito for popsicles or in ice cube trays to enjoy it as dessert.
Shout out to my fellow Hip2Save Puerto Rican teammate Kaitlyn who sent me this recipe idea to share with you all today! 👏 We are both hoping that you all will enjoy it as much as we do.
Tips for making our Coquito recipe:
- Most of the ingredients you’ll be able to find easily at any grocery store. I recommend using Coco Lopez for the cream of coconut as that’s what most recipes for Coquito use and it’s so delicious. Look for it in the cocktail section of stores like Walmart and Kroger.
- I used white rum because that’s what we prefer but you can use a dark if desired. If omitting the rum altogether, consider replacing it with additional coconut milk.
- As the Coquito chills in the fridge, the flavors get even better as they have a chance to hang out! Make sure to plan beforehand for chill time.
- You can use ground spices or whole. I had some whole nutmeg and zested it by hand. Oh man, it smelled delicious!

This drink is so crazy GOOD!
To be honest, I usually am not a fan of coconut drinks like pina colada. Coquito is a much different-tasting beverage with the cinnamon and nutmeg flavors included. I love that it’s an easy party drink to whip up in the blender and you can make it ahead of time.
Here’s what my teammate Kaitlyn thinks of this Coquito recipe:
“Coquito is such a fun and festive holiday drink that brings people together! I’m not even a huge coconut-lover, but it tastes like the holidays for me. I always make it for friends and family, sometimes even gift it by decorating the bottle with Christmas stickers and ribbon, and everyone loves it!”
We LOVE coquito! My Puerto Rican family has always made it during the holiday seasons.. (even without rum it is still delicious). And yes, make it ahead of time because itβs even better when it sits longer!! π
Yum and thanks Rachel! Merry Christmas!

Thank you for this recipe! We had friends who made Coquito every year but they moved to a different state. This drink is beyond delicious!!! I love the little hint of coconut (not at all overpowering) and how smooth it is. I am going to try it this year now that our friends are gone so I can keep the tradition. Oh and Your mom looks like she could be your sister! π₯° love that picture. There is nothing better than spending the holidays with our moms and loved ones.

Oh awesome and thank you so much for your kind words, coming back to visit, and encouragement ACGold! Merry Christmas ππ
If you wanted to make the drink look more festive you could add red or green coconut to the rim. Coconut is easy to color with just a few drops of food coloring. Also a few more questions⦠How many does this serve? Could you make up a genetic batch without the rum and add rum or extra coconut just before you serve?
It says 8 servings. And I think you could make a virgin batch and add rum to other servings.
This serves 8 and it’s pretty rich so like a small wine glass serving is perfect. You can make a batch without rum in the blender and then add in the rum per serving if you’d like! It’s all up to you and how strong you’d like it to be. Or make an entire batch without the rum and maybe add more coconut milk instead!
Having so many Puerto Rican neighbors has given my family the pleasure of having yummy coquito every December. Even made our own last Christmas!
Nice! I love that!
Thanks Lina, I can’t wait to try this! Sounds delicious!
