IKEA Raising Prices Nearly 10% In Response to Supply Chain Issues
Our furniture budgets may be getting a little tighter…
Like many retailers, IKEA has been struggling with supply chain complications. In response, they’ve decided to hike prices by nearly 10%–a percentage they say is on par with other businesses in the same market–making the affordable furniture brand slightly less affordable.
IKEA was reluctant to raise prices, but they were no longer able to absorb the extra cost of manufacturing and shipping their materials alone. Instead, a part of those price increases will be passed on to consumers.
Here’s what one IKEA spokesperson tweeted about the increase:
“Unfortunately, there has been a significant increase in costs across the supply chain, including in raw materials, transport, and logistics. As this is still ongoing it is necessary to increase prices across many of our products.”
Although the Twitter response came from IKEA UK Support, the price hike will apply globally.
IKEA’s price increase news certainly isn’t something we like hearing, but the bright side is that much of their furniture is still affordable even with an increase. I’ve been waiting for the hemnes bookshelf to come in stock at my local store. It increased by $20 overnight! Unfortunately the color I want has still not come in stock locally!
…and once those prices go up…they will never go down. I get there are supply issues but I just wish they would decrease them back down once things go to normal. When will that normal come? That’s the question. It’s a bummer because I love the quality of IKEA and I love their reasonable prices.
YESSSS!
I do use them a lot but I do not love their quality. It is basically lego furniture. But stuff I can afford and furnish my whole house for a fraction of the cost, compared to other places. This sucks, because you are right. The increase will become the new norm.
Only some of their furniture is lower quality, but the solid wood pieces I have in my home from IKEA are amazing. You get what you pay for because they cost more and they are amazing. As a thrifty designer, I’ve been pleasantly surprised at their items. And my ikea genuine leather couch has held up so well under a pure beating by my kids. The one thing I’d steer clear of at IKEA is dining tables, there is only one or two that is good quality.
It’s called inflation… let’s go Brandon!!!
Why am I responsible for GLOBAL price hikes?
Personally I thrift hardy pieces of furniture and diy them. Cheaper and you can get creative. I know its not for everyone but I highly suggest it!
Agree!!!
what is is, people, that you can get at IKEA that TARGET or WalMart, or Home Goods (don’t even need to built) doesn’t have?!
For one thing a much larger selection of furniture.
Prices going up and quality going down….I don’t mind paying a bit extra…but I do mind spending my hard money on crappy quality.
