I Tasted 6 Frozen Burritos & This is the Best One!
I taste-tested 6 popular grocery store frozen burrito brands — here’s what I thought!
Are you or your teens fans of frozen burritos?
I cook and share recipes for a living, but there’s no denying the convenience of frozen meals, especially inexpensive frozen burritos! When you’re “hangry” and in a pinch for a quick and easy meal, they can come in handy to stash in the freezer at home to heat up on the fly.
If you’re curious which ones are the best, I picked up an assortment at a couple of stores and tasted them all in order to provide some feedback!
There are quite a variety of brands offering frozen burritos these days!
To be honest, I haven’t eaten a store-bought frozen burrito in a while. There are vegan options, breakfast options, gluten-free, and more. To narrow it down, I first searched for some popular brands to try like Amy’s Organic, Evol, Tina’s, Red’s, and I even picked up a couple from Trader Joe’s to test! It’s amazing how different tasting these burritos are from each other.
I also don’t know if I’d recommend testing all these at once as I did! LOL! I had a stomach ache afterward, but it’s all in the name of research!
Hip Tip: Try making frozen burritos in the air fryer!
For me, food texture is everything! Microwaving burritos just isn’t my style, but I do see that as the most popular method, especially since all of these had microwave directions on the packaging. If you have a few extra minutes and access to an air fryer, I recommend trying it out for heating a frozen burrito. It makes the tortilla kind of crisp on the outside and is extra yummy.
I wrapped each one in foil first to avoid drying it out and then cooked the frozen burritos in the air fryer for approx 10-15 minutes at 350 degrees depending on the size. I flip them every 5 minutes or so.
Now let’s move on to some frozen burrito taste-testing!
I know everyone’s tastes are different, but I hope this can be a fun and helpful post in case you find yourself in the freezer aisle wondering which frozen burrito to pick!
Each frozen burrito has been evaluated based on flavor, first impression, and price with an overall rating on a scale of 1-10. Follow along to find out which frozen burrito impressed me the most and which ones got a thumbs down!
1. Tina’s Big Burrito Red Hot Beef 10 oz.
If you’re super hungry and love really spicy food this is a pretty good option! I liked the filling, tortilla, and overall Tina’s Big Burrito has tons of flavor and is a hearty choice. It was a bit too spicy for me personally, although I know my husband would 100% pick this one as his fave. This option is the least expensive of the burritos I tested.
Overall Rating 8/10
2. Red’s Organic Chicken Cilantro and Lime Burrito 4.5 oz.
I had really high hopes for this burrito because I love the idea that it’s organic and seems to have great reviews. It just was okay. It lacked flavor and had a thick white sauce I didn’t enjoy. I wouldn’t pick this flavor again, however, I would consider trying another option from this popular brand!
Overall Rating 7/10
3. Amy’s Organic Bean & Rice Frozen Burrito 6 oz.
Okay, here we go! This is a YUMMY burrito. I was pleasantly surprised! Although I wouldn’t typically opt for a wheat tortilla, this one has a delicious overall flavor and I wanted to eat the whole thing. I am for sure buying more of these. I also really enjoyed the other Amy’s Southwestern Burrito featuring corn and tomatoes. They did taste similar to each other and I enjoyed the texture and flavor.
Overall Rating 9/10
4. Good Food Made Simple Eggs Cheese & Turkey Sausage Burrito 5 oz.
I was really excited to try this brand, but honestly, this was my least favorite pick. It was very bland with a puréed watery texture — nope, not for me! There’s not a lot of taste going on in this burrito in my opinion. 👎
Overall Rating 5/10
5. Evol Sausage Egg & Smoked Gouda
Evol Sausage Egg & Smoked Gouda Burrito – $2.49 (at Kroger)
Here is a breakfast burrito I can get on board with! It has lots of flavor and I loved the tortilla. It features chicken apple sausage, scrambled egg, smoked gouda, caramelized onions, and roasted potatoes.
Overall Rating 8/10
I did want to say that I also tasted the Evol Chicken & Rice burrito. It was one of my least favorite flavors and was not very good in my opinion! I have tried lots of frozen foods from this brand and I normally enjoy them but not the chicken burrito was not a winner for me and it scored 5/10 overall.
6. Trader Joe’s Carne Asada Burrito
Trader Joe’s Carne Asada Burrito – $4.99/2-pack
Well, let’s just agree Trader Joe’s has excellent frozen food choices in general and the carne asada burrito does not disappoint! It was the closest tasting to a restaurant-style burrito with a perfect soft tortilla and the filling has a nice spicy smokey taste with lots of flavorful steak pieces.
I did add some fresh salsa to it as I felt like it needed a bit more of a sauce-like addition such as hot sauce, salsa, or guacamole. I also tested the green chili burrito and it was tasty as well.
Overall score 9/10
So which frozen burritos would I buy again?
I feel like frozen burritos have improved lately, and they are so convenient to stock the freezer with.
If I had to choose the best, it’d be the Trader Joe’s Carne Asada followed by Amy’s Organic burritos as today’s winners!
I did want to mention that ALDI is supposed to have popular frozen burritos but they were out of stock when I went to visit. The Whole Foods 365 Burritos are also highly-rated and my dad enjoys that brand. I’d like to try it next!

Monterey frozen burritos are my go toπ―ππ»
Same here so good!
π
Thanks for the rec!!
Me tooo!!!!! Love the breakfast burritos!!!! Very good!!ππ i was just coming to say they missed that brand!!! ππ
I eat Amyβs burritos when I need a meatless, quick meal. I also donβt use a microwave as I find it dries out the burrito. My tip is try the gluten free bean and cheese burrito. I enjoy it more than the regular meat and cheese. The tortilla is less dry.
ohhh that’s a great tip! Thanks Patti!
Lina, I am so in love with all your beautiful bracelets you always wear!
Oh thanks so much – that’s very sweet Shannon!
I buy the 8-pack of El Monterey Beef, Bean & Green Chile, thaw them, and make ‘encheritos’ by lining a casserole dish w/enchilada sauce, putting the burritos in a layer, and covering them with the remaining sauce, sprinkling with cheese. I bake them in a 350 degree oven for ~1/2 an hour, then top with sliced olives & finely diced onion to serve.
Sounds delicious, Rebecca! π Thanks a bunch for sharing this meal idea!
