Hip Readers love AARP membership benefits!

We joined AARP last year simply because we get a discount through our cell phone provider, AT&T. I believe it waives our upgrade fees + gives us $10 off per line/month. It was well worth it for that alone to sign up.

We also have been getting the $10/month credit on our AT&T cell phone account for a few years now. $120 off a year on a cell phone bill is certainly worth the cost of an AARP membership. I do use the coupons/discounts at Walgreens and occasionally use the discount for hotel rooms.

We signed up a few months ago too! You can buy gift cards at a discount on their website… we were specifically interested in the discounted Carnival cards! 🤗

On the first Tuesday of each month, Walgreens offers 20% off of any non-sale item. It’s available to seniors and anyone holding an AARP membership. I’ve been able to combine this 20% off with the dollar value coupons (for example the $7 off $25).

Check out our ultimate list of the best senior discounts!

If I am understanding correctly, you can take the defensive driving course FREE if you are an AARP member? Thanks for any feedback

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hi Lori! I do see that the Smart Driver Course is available to members at a discounted rate. Hope this helps! 💕

    • acww

I contacted my Allstate agent about this. She told me I had to be 55 years old or older and it would only be 1% off my auto insurance.

      • alex

It might be time to check with other insurance. GEICO gives a much greater discount for safe driving class for all ages, which can be done online.

How do you go about getting the $10 AT&T discount? I’m already an AARP member. Thanks for any help with this!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

      Great question, Joyce!💕
Here are the details I found on that offer –
“$10 off per line per month on the AT&T Unlimited Premium℠ plan
Members can learn how to save $10 per line per month on the AT&T Unlimited Premium℠ plan, plus receive up to $50 in waived activation and upgrade fees.”

You could call in to customer service for addtional information on this. 🤗❤️- 1.866.654.5572

Reminder to sign up from Rakuten as well!

  5. Happy

How long does it take for the free gift to arrive?

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Hey Happy! I checked with customer service on this for you, and they shared that the free gift should arrive within 4 weeks. Hope that helps! 🥰

  6. Jill P.

I recently signed up with AARP (got the trunk organizer, nothing special) and regretted it the moment all the junk mail started arriving. Previous to that we rarely ever got junk mail and could go for days without any mail at all. Consider yourself warned. 😉

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh bummer! Sorry to hear that, Jill P. ❤️ Thanks for the honest review on what you thought of the trunk organizer.
