Hawaiian Rolls French Toast
yield: 6 SERVINGS
prep time: 15 MINUTES
cook time: 10 MINUTES
total time: 25 MINUTES
Fluffy soft, and chewy Hawaiian rolls are used to make French toast as a fun twist to this breakfast staple.
Ingredients
- 3 eggs
- 1/2 cup milk or cream
- 1/4 cup sweet cream coffee creamer
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 12 count Hawaiian rolls
- 2 tablespoons butter
- powdered sugar for dusting
- fruit, and syrup for topping
Directions
1
In a mixing bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, creamer, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
2
Cut the rolls in half. Heat a skillet to medium heat on the stove with butter.
3
Quickly dunk the rolls and add them to the skillet. Turn and toast the coated rolls on each side until browned and cooked. They cook pretty quickly in 2-3 minutes. Transfer the cooked pieces to a plate.
4
Top with powdered sugar, maple syrup, fresh berries, and bananas as desired.
Tips for making the best Hawaiian roll French toast:
- As far as the milk goes, you can definitely sub in a specific type that you have on hand or desire. For instance heavy cream works, half and half, whole milk. Coffee creamer works as a clever non-dairy option or even almond milk.
- Be sure to quickly dunk your rolls and not leave them to soak. That will create soggy bread. I think kitchen tongs are super helpful for this.
- You can consider cooking these in the air fryer if desired. I bet that would give a yummy texture. Try 375 degrees for 5-6 minutes until browned.
- Feel free to top your French toast as desired with fruit or nuts. I love a classic berry and banana combo, but use your favorite fruit! Rolling them in a granulated sugar and cinnamon mixture would be delicious too.
It’s a yes from me on this latest internet food trend!
I love this as a lazy Sunday morning breakfast for the family. We added some crispy bacon on the side and this was an excellent brunch! Plus, it was easy to make too.

Looks delicious! Going to give this a try soon. Is the sweet coffee creamer that you used a liquid or powdered creamer? Thanks!
I use Chobani sweet cream which is a liquid. It’s so good if you have’t tried it yet. Thanks Julie!
I like to stir in some Greek honey vanilla yogurt into my egg mix. I think it adds some extra goodness.
Oh love that idea! Thanks Deb!
I often use the flavored creamers we have in the house for coffee in my French toast/waffles/pancakes mixes I make. They add great flavor (especially the caramel flavored ones!) and we go sugar free so no added sugars which is good!
Great idea to use those creamers for other mixes you make too, Sara! 🤗 The caramel flavored option does sound delicious. Thanks so much for sharing! 💗
Great Grains has a loaf of hawaiian sweet bread. They are thick like Texas toast and make a delicious french toast.
YUM! 😋 Thanks for sharing, Melanie! 💕
