Easy, Super Cute DIY Log Snowmen!
If you’re on the lookout for some cheap and super cute Christmas decorations then these snowmen might just be your answer! They are really easy to make and the best part is they don’t cost much either! 🙂
Supplies you will need…
- Two small logs or fence post or any piece of wood really ( I used small logs)
- Two hats and a scarf (I used 1 scarf and cut it in half)
- Black, & orange, acrylic paint (pink for the cheeks is optional) and white paint.
(If you will have these outside, use an exterior paint… I just used an exterior primer) - Small paint brushes and a large brush for white paint.
- Pen or pencil to trace the face and buttons.
- Drop cloth or something to paint on.
Directions:
- Make sure your logs are clean and ready to paint.
- Paint the logs with the white paint. Let dry!
- Take a pencil or pen and trace the face and buttons anyway you would like.
(Keep in mind that the pen might show through the orange paint… I found this out the hard way!) - Take your acrylic paint and paint the eyes, mouth and buttons black, and the nose orange. If you want, you can put a little pink on the cheeks. Let dry!
- Next is the fun part! Place the hat on top of the snowman and put the scarf around the neck of the snowman! I used thumb tacks to secure the scarf around the Snowman. But you could use whatever you want or simply tie the scarf.
Now sit back and look at your adorable creation!
Note: These are so easy to make. I have been wanting to make them for a few years and was scared that they were going to be too hard to make. But honestly they are very simple. 🙂

Did you strip the bark before you painted the white?
Where did you get the logs for this project?
Ours came out great and they have personalities! We made 5 of them!
my friend & i have made 12 so far. she made her whole family, including all the grand kids! so cute they are on her front deck for the family to see as they arrive!! my brother in law(spec. needs) made one for his house. turned out great, so easy and he is so proud! go to someone who sells fire wood to find logs. we used the nail pull part of the hammer to pull the bark then cleaned it up with a wire brush, pretty easy, make these fun project!!!
it has been too cold here to look for wood so I am improvising and using tube forms for concrete. they are painted and I just need to do the faces. very inexpensive and no worries about bugs

do you have to leave the wood dry before painting,,my husband cut me some logs but i was wondering if the paint would stay on it if they are dried
I had my kindergarten class make these years ago and we used logs from our fire wood pile. I have also used (I think that is what they are called) PC pipes. I go to Habitat for Humanity and get the the pipes for almost nothing. My grandchildren came up with the idea of using coffee cans and they were also very cute. They even used some of their own old snow caps. I keep mine up until winter is just a memory.
I am having trouble finding the hats and scarfs. Any ideas where I can find them?
I made these last year – love them. I used logs that my husband cut. I stored them in a cardboard box, covered with plastic and set on the basement floor. We just took them out to measure because we wanted to make more and they are moldy. Wondering if they got moldy from the cardboard possibly getting damp from the cement. We did not deal with polyurethane.
Do you have any ideas or thoughts as to why this would’ve happened?
