Craft Stick Bracelets (Fun Kids Craft Idea)
Looking for a fun craft to do with the kids?
Make customized and wearable bracelets out of ordinary craft sticks! Simply boil jumbo craft sticks in water to soften the wood, shape into curved bracelets, and then embellish or paint them however you’d like. We decided to add craft tape to some and decorative paper to others using Mod Podge decoupage.
DIY Craft Stick Bracelets
Supplies Needed:
- Jumbo Craft Sticks or Tongue Depressors
- Decorative Craft Washi Tape
- Mod Podge Decoupage and Scrapbook Paper
Directions:
Boil craft sticks in water on the stove for about 15 minutes. Let them sit in the water for another 30 minutes afterwards. You want the sticks to soften and be able to bend without breaking. (Tip: Boil a few extra sticks in case some break.)
Gently bend bracelets and place in small jars or drinking glasses to dry overnight.
After craft sticks are completely dry, embellish bracelets as desired.
Craft Supply Ideas to Embellish Bracelets :
- Wood Stain
- Craft Paint
- Nail Polish
- Craft Paint
- Sharpies or Paint Markers
- Decorative Wash Tape
- Duct Tape
- Mod Podge Decoupage & Paper
- Glitter
- Vinyl Stickers or Letters
To decorate a bracelet using Mod Podge, first use a craft stick to trace the shape on paper, then cut it out using scissors. Brush on a layer of Mod Podge, stick paper to bracelets and then finish with a couple more layers of Mod Podge on top of paper, letting each layer dry in between applications.
My kids really enjoyed making these bracelets over their Spring Break! Such an easy and creative craft idea!
This is the coolest project! We’re trying this next week on spring break. Thanks Lina 😊
Thanks! I think you’ll enjoy 😀
What an awesome idea!!! Perfect for my daughter during the weekend! Thanks H2S 😊
Have fun!!
I love this idea! I’m going to make these to go in the goody bags for my daughter’s upcoming birthday party. Thanks Lina! I love your posts!
Neat idea! Thanks for your nice comment ❤️
Awesome idea Lina! Thanks for your fun and creative posts!
This is a great idea! As an early childhood educator, I am going to use this idea to write the names of my students on the bracelets to practice recognizing the letters in their name. The kids can decorate it, too! Thank you, Lina!
I would mod podge the inside as well to maybe prevent splinters. Super cute!
Great idea – thanks Amy
Lina, you are a genius! Definitely doing this with the kids!!! Thanks!
Thanks Jane! Have fun
Would be a great fun activity for the kiddies on Easter. Just boil them ahead of time to sit overnite, & let them decorate them & take home…
Yes! Agree 😀👍🏻
Awesome craft project!
Thanks!
So fun! Great idea Lina! My 6 year old daughter loves these sticks and buys them from dollar stores and just makes bookmarks out of them after decorating. Now such a fun new way to use as a bracelet! Thank you!
Oh how cute! I hope she likes this craft! Enjoy
What a great Idea! Ive never seen this before!
Thanks! It’s so fun.
HI! Awesome idea that I plan to use for a camp I’m running tomorrow!!!
I boiled the sticks and rounded them last night, put them in cups to dry. They are not fully dry but my concern is that the one I checked almost straightened out. It’s curved but definitely not close to bracelet shape. Will the sticks harden into bracelet shape when 100% dry?
Or should I try again? Thanks!!!
That is genius! I have never thought of this. Thank you.
Such a wonderful craft that is wear-a-ble. I know it will be a winner for sure.
So glad you’re loving this idea, Novella! 🥰
I absolutely love this idea however it didn’t work at all for us. I boiled 15 sticks and only 4 didn’t break and even then couldnt bend them into cups without those breaking and the ones that didn’t arent rounded enough to be bracelts. Did I get wrong popsicle sticks are some better than others? We were so dissapointed.
So sorry to hear this didn’t work for you, Jaquee! We used jumbo craft sticks, but you could also use tongue depressors. You might try letting them soak in the water a bit longer to see if that softens them up a bit more if you decide to give it another try! Hoping this is helpful! 🤞💗
I boiled longer and put the lid on to let them sit in the pot after and got many good ones! Yay I’m so excited! Thank you!
YAY! 🙌 You’re very welcome, Jaquee! SO happy to hear this! Thanks for the update! ❣️
