I am taking my 2 and 7 year old for Christmas. Has anyone been at Christmas time? Is there anything we must do and should skip while there? What is worth the money? No one close to us has been!
In my opinion, I would not go during the snow land again. It’s is beautiful, however, it was so crowded and rooms weren’t ready; lobby was so busy and check in lines were super long! We have gone during off season and it’s not decorated as nice but much less of a crowd!
The one in Sandusky, OH has an edible gingerbread house that you can make reservations to eat in. We did it a few years ago for lunch one day.
We’ve been to GWL several times. Last year, we went during Snowland and loved it! Would recommend a meal in the gingerbread house if you’re planning on eating at GWL. Fun experience and part of the money goes to Ronald McDonald House. Also, bring a camera, as Santa and Mrs. Clays are in the lobby for photos.
Thank you! I did reserve the house, and we are so excited!
Can anyone tell me how the voucher work? Thanks
Not sure what location you are referring to. We stayed during christmas time. They have snowland which my kids liked. My 3 year old was scared of the characters walking around the hotel. LOL. My biggest complaint with the great wolf is that the service isn’t great and the food isn’t either, and it is expensive!!
We just went a few days ago. It was a BLAST. We got a Groupon for it. It was $290 for a night. We only did the water park and arcade games. The games got pricey ($150!) but it was worth it. The kids got tons of prizes and even won 1,000 tickets from one machine! The food is ok.. we brought snacks and water and that stuff. We got food from outside the park and brought it in. There is Dunkin’ Donuts there. Those prices weren’t crazy. It was such a fun time. The kids loved it. My younger kids felt a little independent with me not having to go behind them the whole time on the smaller section. They loved when I was at the bottom of the slide waiting for them! I cannot wait to go back.. we probably will go every year!!
How fun! Thanks so much for sharing your experience Anne! Super glad to hear how much your family enjoyed the trip!
Thanks so much Anne for the review! We’re taking our 5yo and 10 month old tomorrow. I’m super excited but was worried the arcade games would cost a fortune. Thanks for the heads up on the food also.
We love GWL!!! We go to the Charlotte/Concord one when there is a Groupon. We’ve learned to always take our own food. There is a microwave and fridge in the room. My girls love being independent and just checking in with us from time to time (They’re 9,9 and 12 and all excellent swimmers). I think they like MagiQuest as much as the water slides. After we shower and have dinner, they run themselves silly playing MagiQuest and my husband and I sit in the comfy chairs and have a couple of glasses of wine (that we bring from home). Most relaxing vacation ever! Sometimes the Groupons include a $25 or $50 voucher which we either use for a dinner or the cost of the MagiQuest games. FYI, our town’s Go, Play, Save coupon books have coupons for BOGO at the restaurant which we get as takeout. Two meals feeds my family of 5 with some added salad or fruit from home! There are also BOGO MagiQuest coupons. You can make the trip so affordable with some planning. 🙂
This is IOWA location only
Just a heads up, our experience with buying these vouchers was not good. We bought two for the Arlington location the last time they were on Zulily. The fine print stated that the vouchers were only good for Sunday’s through Thursday’s. Thus was during the summer so no big deal. But when i went on the Wolf Lodge website and checked availability there were NO dates available for use with these vouchers within. There was availability to pay without the vouchers though 🙁 So we contacted Zulily, and contacted Zulily…and talked to Zulily and talked to Zulily…you get the point. Finally Great Wolf lodge said they would honor the vouchers for the weekend during Halloween festivities! So they were great even though after we did the math we saved very little with the vouchers. Also read ALL the fine print. This does not include “resort fees” which run about $50.
Thanks so much for sharing your experience Amy! Good to know!
Thanks to the above poster, because I was wondering how these vouchers worked. Sounds like buy the voucher and cross your fingers that the dates you want are even available. That’s too much of a risk to me, PLUS knowing that they charge resort fees puts even this out of what I’m willing to pay for just one night. I mean, do people really pay $400+ to stay ONE night?
Amy- one thing to note is you can use the park the day you check in AND the day you check out. For example, when I took my boys this summer we got there around 10:30am. Left the next night around 8pm. 400 would be ridiculous but on sale totally worth it. I have been with my kids probably 5 times and we have a blast. And GW runs sales all of the time. Just get on their email list. 🙂
