Register for FREE Home Depot Kids Workshop to Build Bookworm Bookends on August 4th

Head on over to HomeDepot.com and enter your zip code to register at your local store for the upcoming FREE Home Depot Kids Workshop.
The workshop will be held on Saturday, August 4th from 9 AM – Noon. Kiddos aged 5 – 12 will be able to make a set of Bookworm Bookends. They will use wood to construct them and then can decorate their bookends with paint and stickers – all materials are provided for free!
In addition to their bookends, while supplies last, all children that participate will receive a free certificate of achievement, workshop apron and a commemorative pin!

My daughter is a junior in college and we took her for years to these workshops. At first she could barely see over the table edge. We loved going to these!

My boys love these projects! Wish our Home Depot would have paints available there instead of for purchase. We never finish the product at home.
Do you think an 18 month old toddler would like this?
For a little while! You would have to do the hammering. Your child could probably paint. If you live near the store, it wouldn’t hurt to give it a try.
Says ages 5-12
There’s hammering and painting with real paints (not washable finger paint) involved so I think that’s on the young side. Their suggested age is 5 which I think is probably the ideal age for this.

Absolutely. They don’t regulate the ages of kids attending lol. My sons have been going since age 2….18 months can totally do it as well. You can just adapt it to their ability (help them out where needed) and they’ll have a lot of fun. It’s a excellent opportunity to work on fine motor skills!
Just my opinion which I know will not be the popular one – Save it until he is older… There are so many things for parents and babies and toddlers to do together, let the older kids enjoy this. I am not judging and I get why we all want can’t wait to do this with our kids – it is an adorable program, I took my son once at age three and really he could not do the project, it was stressful trying to keep him from not hurting himself or others with the hammer and he still put everything in his mouth at that age… I need two hands for the project and another four to corral him from eating paint or nails. He is now five and we just started going again and it really is an enjoyable experience for us all. The pride of him doing this “himself” is wonderful.
Our Home Depot always runs out of these kits between people that show up and do not sign up online or those that bring really young kids. An 18 month old has no clue what this is about or that they would be missing out on anything but a six or 8 year old that gets turned away sure is bummed. Why waste take up space for a toddler to do something that you as a parent will do most of the work and he really is too young to play with once it is done – as it is wood, painted and small nails? A toddler is just as happy banging with his toy hammer at home and playing with finger paints. Also i have seen several little ones – my son included really freak out from all the noise of the hammering from the other kids.
My grandkids made some sort of fishing game there this weekend. They are 3 1/2 and 4 1/2. They loved it. Age may be dependent on the project. I’m sure they won’t be going to the next one as they don’t meet the age criteria.
My son turned two in March and we go every month since January he helps me hammer but I do most of the assembly and them let him paint he loves it even though the suggested age is 5 he’s the size of a four year old and very advanced for his age
My daughter is 9 and we go every weekend! The things they build are high quality and actually usable! She LOVED the fishing game yesterday. Can’t wait for the book ends!!
A few tips:
You can bring any age. Yes it says 5-12, but there are LOADS of kids younger than 5. The parents do a lot of helping (heck, I help my 9yo a lot!), but the painting is fun.
Speaking of painting, not every store has the paint. I’ve been to 4 different stores for these events, and 1 out of the 4 didn’t have paint. So most do, but some don’t.
In several of the locations, it gets very busy very early. Sometimes they’ll even let kids start around 8:45 so if you get there at 9, you’re “late” and are scrambling to find a spot. I’ve been to other stores where it was only 1-2 people at 9. So the first time you go, get there early to gauge whether or not you have a busy store. Also, the holiday crafts are always more busy.
Registering does NOT guarantee you a kit. It’s merely so they can estimate how many they’ll need. If you roll up at 11:45 and think your kit is secured bc you registered, you may leave disappointed.
Depending on the store, you can take home extra kits for kids who couldn’t attend.
I bring my 19 month old and he loves it! he likes helping to hammer his project and we usually just keep it unpainted. I’ve never has anyone working the events tell me he’s too young and he looks adorable in the apron. I’d say give it a shot 🙂 worst comes to worst you can finish his project at home
I used to follow the guidelines regarding ages, but not anymore, no one else does. Also go early.
