We bought this bed for our sunroom which we use as an occasional guest bedroom and it fits very well in such a small space. This bed works well as a guest bed and if our guests prefer a softer mattress, we bought a memory foam mattress pad to put on top. All-in-all a great, space-saving piece!”

I recommend it to anyone that needs a bed, closet, and working area all in one. This is so perfect for a small room that can’t fit many items.”

4. TARVA bed frame
Price | $99
Minimalist home decorators are going to love this simple bed frame from IKEA! I personally own two of these TARVA beds which make for perfect kid’s beds regardless of age and the best part is that you pay under $100 for each one!
Here are some other reasons you’ll love it:
- Made of solid pine wood
- Unfinished, and can be easily stained or painted
- Slatted bed base included
- No box spring required
Cons to consider:
- Many reviewers ran into assembly issues
My thoughts:
Since I have two boys that share a room, I needed two beds for their space. The minimalist design + the super affordable price of these beds is what drew me to these. We previously had these in our last house and I painted them white which looked so amazing and high end!
I haven’t got around to painting their new beds yet, but just the wood on its own is gorgeous and most importantly my boys love sleeping on them! They’re a bit of a pain to get together, but that’s to be expected with IKEA furniture. You can’t beat the price!
5. KOPARDAL bed frame
Price | $169
I’m in love with the design of this bed! It’s timeless and available at such a great price! There’s no need to scour the local antique shops to find a beauty like this.
Here are some other reasons you’ll love it:
- Classic steel bed design goes with a variety of decor, is strong and sturdy, and easy to maintain
- High headboard allows you to prop up pillows and relax
- Spacious floor space underneath, which is great for extra storage and makes vacuuming a breeze
- No box spring required
Cons to consider:
- Legs are slightly flared which make you prone to tripping
- Some reviewers complain of it being squeaky
- Some complain their standard mattress doesn’t fit well
“We bought this bed 1.5 years ago and use it with a 13″ deep mattress and the basic wooden slats. We wanted an inexpensive, simple bed with room to store stuff underneath in our small apartment. Love not having a footboard and this bed is comfortable for my tall boyfriend. Plus, it’s easier to make the bed. It has been very sturdy and not squeaky at all (we weigh 135 and 240lb and the mattress is 110lb).”
– Tessa ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
6. MALM storage bed
Price | $499
Talk about a cool bed – who thought storage could be so fun? Whether you need tons of extra storage or just want something different, this one is unique and unlike any other that you’ll find!

“I love this bed’s clean lines! It makes the entire room look great and the storage is absolutely unbelievable! Hiking and sports equipment, boxes of memorabilia out of closets, and freeing up space for clothing. The bed stores items that had been cluttering almost every corner of our house. Yet, it is still so easy to retrieve those stored items.”
– Linda ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
7. KVALFJORD bed frame
Price | $699
IKEA even has gorgeous upholstered bed frames so if you’re trying to stay within a reasonable budget, this bed is sure to check off your bedroom makeover wishlist. Plus, unlike any other upholstered bed, you’ll find on the market, the fabric on this one is removable and completely machine washable! Sweet!
Here are some other reasons you’ll love it:
- Traditional upholstered design
- Fabric is made of a linen blend
- Solid oak legs
- Included slatted bed base
- No box spring required
Cons to consider:
- Assembly requires two people
“This bed HAS IT ALL! The legs match my furniture perfectly, the frame sits nicely off the floor, and I love the simple, clean lines of the headboard. The headboard is also very thick and nicely upholstered — does not look cheap at all! Assembly isn’t difficult and it’s sturdy! Bonus: Nothing gets in the way of anything you want to store under your bed. The headboard is plenty tall enough that you can fit a box spring/foundation and a thick mattress and not even come close to the bottom line of buttons. I love this bed!”

Our son likes it as a loft – it’s low enough so that it is safe and accessible, yet high enough that there’s room for a huge cozy nook underneath. We have also used it as bunk beds when we had extra kids and if we had a younger child it could be easily flipped over to accommodate a toddler. I love how sturdy it is and I managed to put it together by myself – looks great with any bedding.”

My thoughts:
This bed works perfectly for my daughter and it’s not super difficult to put together like a lot of other IKEA furniture items! When my daughter was ready to transition out of her crib, we started with the toddler size, and when she was ready for the twin size, we just bought a new mattress and adjusted the frame as needed. Easy peasy and she loves it!
This bed is really nice for younger kiddos because it’s low to the ground and it’s easy to get in and out of on their own.
Here are 10 tried and true IKEA items that you’re going to love!
Any matress reccomendations for the Kura?
Any regular twin size mattress. No thicker than 5 1/8β if youβre using it as the loft option.
We purchased a Lucid 5″ memory foam mattress for our son’s Kura. He’s now sleeping in the loft style without issue. He likes how he can store toys underneath, in his “fort”.
My 9 year old loves the Nesttun bed (not included on your list). He kept falling out of bed and getting hurt. What we love most about the Nesttun is that is really close to the ground so if he were to fall out, he wouldnt have far to fall. The dog also loves that she can jump up with ease and not have to use her stairs like with the other beds. https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/nesttun-bed-frame-white-s29157991/
The bedding on the Malm storage bed, is that from Ikea also? My daughter has totally fallen for they tye dye trend.
Hi Momof3, the bedding is indeed from IKEA. Although a quick search online did not produce this particular set. You may want to contact your local IKEA to see if they know of this set. Maybe pull up this picture on your phone and show an associate on your next visit there. Good luck!
Does anyone know what that wooden slide is called? Where to buy?
we have #8, and it has held up well for a couple of moves and at least 10 years so far. it is SO safe as a starter bed when the mattress is close to the ground, then is fun and allows for extra space when you turn it around as a loft bed when the child is older.
on ours, the white parts (around the bottom and on the end) are reversible to blue for added versatility.
we have one of Ikea’s thinner/cheaper mattresses on it, and it is also way more comfy than you would expect, and has remained equally firm/maintained its shape all the years we’ve had it.
What great feedback, Rebecca. Thank you! This is what helps everyone in our community be smarter and wiser shoppers! Thank you and so glad IKEA products have been good for you!
We bought the Flekke daybed for my daughter last month. She couldn’t be happier with it! Easy to assemble, too!
We had the Kura for my son’s first bed, and the tent was blue with stars, he called it his “Buzz Lightyear bed.” It held up really well until he outgrew it at about age 12. He picked out Ikea’s Hemnes bed for his replacement, and that one has been great so far too. We got the drawers for extra storage under the bed too.

Looking for the beddys canβt find them.
Does the Tarva bed fit a regular size twin mattress? Or do you have to use the ikea mattress?
Hi Katie! Itβs a tighter fit, but yes, regular twin mattresses fit. π
