Clever Kids’ Closet Organization Hacks
One of my New Year’s resolutions is to de-clutter, particularly when it comes to ALL OF THE KIDS’ STUFF. They’ve outgrown many of their toys or they are broken and missing pieces (I swear those things reproduce overnight too! 😉 ). My kiddos share rooms, so I’ve been looking for some clever ways to organize their closets. Here are a few smart, space-saving ideas I’ve found…
1. Pegboard Wall
Pegboard is SO versatile! I love this idea from Slippers By Day.
2. Book Shelf Doors from Pantry Shelving
There are so many great ways to utilize those closet doors with vertical storage. This Book Shelf Door Idea could be used in so many different ways, too!
3. Shoe Organizer Hack
Use a shoe organizer to store blankets and other baby necessities.
AND/OR…
Use it to store toys and stuffed animals!
4. Laundry Basket Hacks
This Outgrown Laundry Basket Hack is pure genius, especially in those early months when babies are growing SO fast!
Or…
I like to use an empty laundry basket (A what?? – What’s an EMPTY laundry basket, right??) to quickly gather toys and other items from around the house for my kiddos to put away later. This Hanging Laundry Basket Idea is so smart!
5. Labeled Bins
Keeping Labeled Closet Bins is a great way to help kids be in charge of cleanup in their own rooms. If they’re too young to read, try adding a pic of the item along with the words on the label.
6. Floating Bookshelves
These Floating Bookshelves sit nearly flush against the wall so they take up very little room, while creating a beautiful wall display of books. Love it!
7. Tackle Lego Organization
First, sort your Lego pieces into stack-able totes like these above…
…and then organize the manuals into 3-ring binders. This is 100% GENIUS! Those darn manuals are always getting torn to shreds in my house. See more HERE.
8. Foam Days of the Week Separators
Just some simple foam squares work well for separating hangers in your closet! Check it out HERE.
9. Chain Hack
This Space-Saving Chain Hack utilizes vertical space to help you fit more items in a smaller closet. Love it!
10. Tank Top Organization
Have lots of tank tops? Check out these inexpensive and space-saving ideas!

I miss the wipe boxes that were like a giant leggo that stacked together. We had a TON of them when my oldest (18) was little. They were GREAT 4 small toys & storage
I still have a few from 20 yrs ago
I remember those and my (now 22) daughter loved them!
I love the idea of an outgrown basket!!
Me too! I could have used that like 10 years ago, haha!
Great tips! Love the tank top and over the door shoe organizer hack.
I like the foam squares to separate clothes by size, 0-3 mos, 3-6 mos, etc. I received clothes up to size 2T when my two were born.
The book wall is breath taking!
I agree! I want it, complete with the books pictured.
I also use a skirt organizer to hang my 3 year old’s pants. It’s a space saver, prevents wrinkles, and you can hang about 4-5 pants on one hanger. I get them at Ross or Marshall’s for $3.99.
Great idea!
Thank you for the ideas! Need to reorganize kids closet!
You’re welcome!
This looks really good. I actually went to the container store and the ELFA closets are perfect-especially for children. I plan to buy once since they are having their ELFA sale. Are these closets part of ELFA?? I love the way you organized everything.
I have Elfa from The Container Store and LOVE it. Yes it’s pricey – but well made, will last for years and very easy to change. As in, you can adjust the height and place of the shelving units as your child grows or you have different needs. Highly recommend. BTW, it’s very easy to install yourself.
The chain hack is awesome! I’m going to do that right now. We just put up a new light and have an extra piece of chain leftover. Thank you!!
You’re welcome!
I wish my closet was at least this organized uff
How do the kids reach the books above the door
I wondered that too, books are meant to be read!
You could put the ones they can read at the moment within their reach and the books for when they’re older (the more complicated ones) at the top. I know we have books that we’ve been given that would be great for when the kids are older but they’re not for their current age group. That could be the place to store them until it’s time to rotate them.
We bought a house with one of those tie organizers that hang on the wall. It is perfect for hanging my tank tops on and does not take up the closet rod! I used the shower circles for tank tops at the old house but they ended up taking up so much room and the rod was too close to the floor to use a hanger to hang them sideways. I wish I could post a picture of the tie organizer~ it has been awesome!
hope they share the link to were to find those items.. great idea!
This is my resolution too. Thanks for the great ideas!
