Bed Bath & Beyond is closing all remaining stores TONIGHT!
On April 23rd Bed Bath & Beyond announced it was filing for bankruptcy protection and on Wednesday, April 26th, the closing process for its remaining 320 Bed Bath & Beyond retail locations as well as the remaining 120 Buy Buy Baby retail locations began.
Bed Bath & Beyond will be closing all of its remaining stores tonight, July 30th. This means you have one last day to score up to 90% off of everything left in the store including fixtures.
Keep in mind that they will not accept any coupons, gift cards, merchandise credits, or rewards. AND all sales are final!

I worked at Buybuy baby for 5 years. I was encouraged to return basically anything. Even if it was old and used. I tried to tell customers no, to rediculous returns, but told to return it anyway. This doesn’t surprise me one bit!
I find this incredibly sad. Getting married and having a baby there is something special about going in the store and registering in person. Especially with having a baby for the first time you want to see things in person, test out functionality etc. They still have some registry options in person for weddings but there will no more for babies. They closed babies r us and now buy buy baby. I get it there prices were high but I often could get a great deal between the coupons and rewards $s back from spending a certain amount. I just find it sad I still like the in store experience and stores like this that I grew up on and ones like Borders as well just makes me nostalgic and sad.
I liked the variety and if I needed something specific they always seemed to have it. When stores like this close we aren’t left with a lot of shopping options dependent on where you live 😔
Lynne, I do agree with you. So sad to think about this. I did like their products. They stores are also so nicely decorated. And so many people are going to loose their job

I live in a rather rural area and have to drive over an hr to another state to get to buybuybaby. With that said, does anyone have some hard and fast details on when they will start having actual good liquidation sales? I’m not looking to drive over an hr to get the same prices as amazon or Walmart. TIA

No worries, Theresa! 🥰 It seems the post mentions that as of Wednesday, April 26th (tomorrow), stores will no longer be accepting coupons, which means today would be the last day. Readers on our Facebook post also mentioned the coupons in their rewards account online are showing an updated expiration of today as well. You could always call your nearest location before making a trip to see if they will honor coupons beyond today. Hoping this is helpful! ❤️
If I hadn’t read this on Hip2Save, I’d have never known and would probably have been stuck with over $100 in gift cards I’ve been holding on to. Already some items I tried to get online were no longer available, but I ended up with almost 200 K-cups! Thank you!

Following are 9 retailers to watch for a possible Chapter 11 filing in the year ahead.
Party City – Is the Party Over? According to Investor Place, New Jersey-based Party City Holdco Inc.’s (“Party City”) stock is down more than 90% year to date, and as of the third quarter of 2022, there was $1.8 billion in debt. Further, the Wall Street Journal noted that restructuring advisors had been hired. Bloomberg Law cited that creditors of the company’s metallic balloon business, Anagram, have hired counsel due to the global helium shortage, among other things. Look for a possible first-quarter 2023 filing.
JOANN – Can the Retailer Craft a Strategy to Stay in Business? Seeking Alpha reports that Jo-Ann Fabrics, now formally known as JOANN, faces declining sales, comps, margins, and increasing costs, creating an uphill battle for the crafts retailer. Retail Dive reported that third-quarter net sales were $562.8 million, almost an 8% decline and that to improve its liquidity and balance sheet, the company said it is suspending its quarterly dividend. Can the retailer survive without filing for Chapter 11?
Tuesday Morning – Does a Chapter 22 Lie Ahead for 2023? The Dallas Morning News reported that the Dallas-based off-priced, home goods and décor store, which filed for Chapter 11 in 2020 and successfully exited, is planning to go private. Investor Place cited that the company expects a delisting to occur in early January. The company’s most recent quarterly report noted that it had nearly 500 stores, but lost $28 million on sales of $151 million for the quarter ending October 1. A second Chapter 11 filing (a “Chapter 22”) could allow a sale of the business in an organized fashion.
AMC – Is it Curtains for the Movie Chain? According to Investor Place, rumors persist that first and second lien holders are working with restructuring advisors. Further, allegations continue that Sam Bankman-Fried’s FTX may have manipulated AMC stock. Yet, Forbes reported that the company is issuing a co-branded visa card next year to boost revenue. With consumers still not returning to movie theatres at pre-COVID levels, how long can the chain last before having to significantly restructure?
Dollar General – Reducing its Footprint Through Bankruptcy? BestLife noted that many middle and high-income shoppers are now going to the retailer, which is good news. Further, CT Insider reported that the retailer was the fastest-growing retailer in the country just before the pandemic, per the National Retail Federation. But, MSN cited that, like Bed, Bath & Beyond, the retailer is closing stores. Will all the newly opened stores pre-COVID cause Dollar General to use bankruptcy to reduce its footprint in the new year due to labor shortages and supply chain issues?
Mattress Firm – Sleeping into a Chapter 22 in the First Quarter? Previously, Mattress Firm (now owned by Steinhoff) emerged from Chapter 11 in 2018 with a reduced footprint. However, according to Bloomberg, bedding demand is in decline as consumers cut spending. Further, Bloomberg reported that Serta Simons Bedding, a major mattress manufacturer, is planning to file for bankruptcy in January 2023. In October 2022, Retail Dive listed Steinhoff as having a 4 to 9.99% chance of filing for bankruptcy.
Rite Aid – Not What the Doctor Ordered. In April of last year, The Motley Fool noted that the Philadelphia-based company had three (3) major red flags, which persist to date: deteriorating financing, inability to deleverage, and “rock bottom” valuation. Fitch Ratings on November 9, 2022, downgraded Rite Aid’s long-term issuer default rating to C from B-. Higher costs related to its plan to close stores, rising pressure on consumer spending, and supply chain concerns do not bode well for the retailer.
The Gap – Will a Drop in Consumer Spending / Supply Chain Issues Force a Filing? According to Retail Dive, third-quarter sales rose 2.4%, with Banana Republic leading the way with an increase of 8% in net sales. Despite the rosy sales figures last quarter, there is much concern that supply chain issues and expected lower consumer spending could severely affect sales in the first part of the new year. If this occurs, how long can the retailer last before it considers a bankruptcy filing.
Kohl’s – One of the Last Department Stores. According to The New York Times, November 2022 U.S. retail sales were down by 0.6 percent from October (November has the biggest shopping days of the year—Black Friday and Cyber Monday). Insider reported that during the company’s third-quarter earnings call, sales decelerated in October and early November compared to the year prior. Thin margins with inflation and a decline in discretionary spending are squeezing the company and could lead to a bankruptcy filing.

Our local BedBathBeyond closed last weekend. The final day was 95% off and they were selling the fixtures too.
It was much better than some store liquidations that bring in inventory that was never sold there. This is so sad for the employees that lost their jobs though!

So frustrated and disappointed! I found $50 in gift cards and my local store has already shut it’s doors. So I tried to get online to use them and the website was down. I called the phone number and was on hold for nearly an hour and when I finally got a representative she assured me that they would have the website working again in a few hours. I tried getting on the website again and was able to but everything seems to be unavailable! I searched in every category and every which way and got the same result everytime. “no products found” 🙁

As someone who worked at a retail store that went out of business and went through a liquidation sale let me just say people that shopped there during that time were just like animals. They trashed the store, would come to the counter with shopping carts overflowing with products and make us scan each item to tell them how much it was because apparently it was too much trouble to figure out with the calculator on their phone to subtract the percentage off for that department. Then they would hardly buy anything from their overflowing carts and the amount of returning the items to the shelves was ridiculous and we couldn’t keep up with it. People absolutely trashed the store, clogged toilets on purpose, spray painted fixtures and even one of the toilets!! They yelled and argued with us and tried to haggle prices and when we said we have no control over any of that anymore it’s the liquidation companies decision they would say things like “this is why you’re going out of business”. The items on shelves were just thrown back wherever by customers even worse than regular shopping then people would try to buy say a large item that was in the wrong location for like $2 when the item was actually like $40 and argue saying “well that’s where they found it so they should get it for $2”. I literally had a grown ass woman throw an item on the floor at me when she couldn’t get the item for $2 and she screamed at me as she stormed off. The liquidation co had offered us managers a bonus to stay until the store closed and most of us accepted and stayed. We found out why they do that and if I was ever in that situation again I would not take the money to deal with people like that again. Working retail can be stressful enough having to deal with some customers that just feel entitled, have no manners and are just plain rude. So please be extra polite to the employees because they might need someone to cheer them up. It’s hard enough already to be losing their jobs.
Went yesterday to use up a credit I had. Shelves were pretty empty and only 10 percent off. Expensive for items that were left. Used credit and left the store. Store had 1 customer.
