We’ve got all the details on the 2024 ROSS 49¢ clearance sale.

Be sure to share this with all the bargain shoppers you know! The 2024 ROSS 49¢ sale is officially live at most stores.

Do you love nothing more than finding an amazing steal of a deal? Rumor has it that the annual, unofficial ROSS 49¢ sale has already started at some locations. We’ve also heard that the kick-off date for many stores is TODAY, January 22, 2024.

Be sure to check your local ROSS Dress for Less stores to see if they have already started discounting products. This means that you might spot the 49¢ hot pink clearance tags appearing on store merchandise! Finding items with that special hot pink tag may take some effort. Start where you see red clearance signs and look through the racks closely.

Though the sale is technically an “unofficial” one, these tags tend to pop up every year around this time. In the past, shoppers have seen clothing, jewelry, holiday items, lotions, and coloring books all discounted to 49¢.

The deals available may vary between ROSS stores across the country.

Whether you find a 49¢ tag or not, you’re sure to see heavily discounted items throughout December and January. Dates and deals may vary by location, but stores nationwide will slash prices to unload last year’s inventory.

Readers have already spotted this sale. One reader said, “Check your stores now. Mine started last week! I scored so many cute things. Even the cashier was shocked, lol!”

You may spot new sale and clearance items every day. If you have your heart set on snagging these rock-bottom prices, we suggest checking the racks before the unofficial ROSS 49¢ sale starts and checking again afterward.

Shoppers report finding these ROSS deals last year:

  • Tommy Hilfiger Baby Sets – $1.99
  • Jumping Beans’ Girls Floral Top – $1.49
  • Long Winter Puffer Coat with Removable Hood – $14.99
  • Nike Fuzzy Sweatshirts – $3.99

You can also save year-round at Ross Dress for Less!

If you haven’t shopped at ROSS before, the store carries some major brand names for affordable prices.

Browse the ROSS racks and you’ll spot designers like Kate Spade, Nautica, Puma, Levi, and Guess. Even better, most items are 20% – 60% cheaper than offered at department stores!

ROSS has a large selection too! The stores are full of trendy clothing, shoes, jewelry, artwork, home goods, and more. The selection changes regularly, so make sure to take your time and browse the racks.

To get the most out of your trip to ROSS, you’ll want to be aware of some ROSS store shopping hacks and savings tips. Besides the ROSS 49¢ sale, here are our favorite ways to save at ROSS!

Save more with these ROSS shopping tips:

1. Shop “Senior Tuesday” at ROSS stores.

Those 55 or older can save 10% at ROSS every single Tuesday. This offer may vary by location so check with your store before heading over.

2. Be aware of “Markdown Mondays.”

Monday seems to be the day that ROSS stores markdown items. Shop Monday or early Tuesday to scoop these items before someone else does!  Store managers may have their Monday markdown list by Sunday. It doesn’t hurt to ask a store manager which markdowns to expect for the week.

3. Enter the ROSS sweepstakes using the code on your receipt.

ROSS hosts sweepstakes every month where they award one grand prize and 5 second place prizes. Submit your receipt number to their sweepstakes website to enter. You can win up to $1,000!

4. Look for discounted items outside the clearance section.

Some deals might not be in the clearance section or marked with a giant “clearance” sign. Browse racks throughout the store and you might find heavily discounted items that you weren’t expecting!

These discounts don’t just happen during the ROSS 49¢ sale. You can find discounts of 20% – 60% year-round!

5. Be aware that inventory changes regularly.

ROSS updates inventory on the regular. When you see a great deal, scoop it up as it’s not guaranteed to be there next time. Likewise, if you didn’t find what you were looking for one week, you might just find it the following one. Carve out time to visit the store so you can really look through the merchandise.

6. Keep an eye out for tags marked “Irregular.”

Every once in a while, you’ll spot an “irregular” item. This means that the product did not meet the manufacturer’s guidelines. Sometimes these may be defective products that you should avoid buying, but other times the irregularity is minimal and you can score a great price for the item.

7. Shop early to snag the brand names.

Brand-name items that have been discounted tend to fly off the shelves. The earlier you can hit up the store, the better, and if you can, shop during the week when the store is less crowded.

8. Sign up for emails to get store news.

Register for the ROSS email list and you might just get special offers or updates on merchandise.

9. Always shopping at ROSS? A store credit card gives you 5% back in ROSS Rewards.

We usually DON’T recommend opening up store credit cards. However, if you are a ROSS regular, you can get 5% back in ROSS Rewards. You’ll also snag 10% off a Ross Dress for Less purchase.

10. Know the ROSS return policy.

Software that has been opened and merchandise that has been used, worn, or altered are not eligible for a refund, exchange, or store credit.

That being said, if you don’t love an item you bought or you found it for less, you can return the product within 30 days for a full refund. Just bring in your ID and the original receipt.

Returns made without a receipt must be approved by the system (make sure to bring in a Valid ID). Upon approval, you will be given a store credit or exchange at the current retail price.

Merchandise returned after 30 days – receipt or not – will be exchanged or credited with a store credit.

Hip Tip: Avoid paying for items via check. Those who pay via check must wait 5 days after a return before funds will be released.

I didn’t know this was a thing. I’ll be on the look out. While I don’t think Ross has quite the selection of similar stores, like Marshalls and TJ Maxx, I think they generally have slightly better prices. Thanks for the heads up.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

You’re so welcome! Hope you snag some great deals! 🤗❤️

      It’s a lie

      • KYME SMITH

Totally NOT a lie. I work at the Ross store in Florence, Alabama. I promise you that it’s not a lie. We’ve been marking things down all month but yesterday (Jan. 22) was the unofficial big day. I checked people out who had 3-4 giant bags full of items from every department for $30 – $35. I’m actually working markdowns today and have to be there an hour before the store opens. The checkout line went all the way to the back of the store until early afternoon (I’m the front end supervisor and our regulars will tell you that even in the occasions when the lines are long, they move very quickly). 🙂

  2. chenga57

Cool! Didn’t know they did this! Looking forward to finding some good deals

    • Trish (Hip Sidekick)

Hoping you score some great deals, chenga57! Happy shopping! 🛍️💕

  3. Ross Clearance Shopper

I’ve been doing this sale for close to a decade now. The last 4 yrs since a former Ross employee talked about this on social media, people have lined up HOURS before my Ross stores open. It’s like mad house where women elbow each other to get a hold of the clearance items. Last year the employees wised up. They bring their relatives and put the scanned clearance item directly in the cart of the relatives they team up with. It does not even go back to the racks. Complete waste of time.

    • Anilya

Seems like that could get them fired 🤔

Ross is “level 3” of the same company. First is Marshalls (higher prices), 2nd is TJMaxx (mid-line) and 3rd is Ross.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Interesting! Thanks for sharing that, Donna! 🤗

    • C

No, it’s not. TJ Maxx and Marshalls are owned by TJX, but Ross is not affiliated with TJX.

      • Jacqueline Jones

        Ross and DDs are cohorts

    • Jae Sands

IT’S a lie, we were told that you will find out at the register if you have a 0.49 cent item. Most of their prices end with .99, and it was done to .49, ex: if an item is 5.99, it’s now 5.49, that’s it. Ross can do so much better than lying and then sending people on a scavenge hunt for 0.49. I am thankful and blessed I only picked up what I needed. Also, customers if you have nothing that rings up fir 0.49 cent, leave it and make them put ut all back, maybe marketing/ advertising will stop with the false representation.

      • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Hey there Jae! The 49¢ items should be clearly marked on the clearance sticker; however, the pricing and participation seems to vary by store. ❤️

      • Amber

I found 2 items that were .49 . So it is true. Also found big baskets marked down to $4.99 . 😁

      • Lisa

I once bought a dress from goodwill for $9.99, got it home and found the original ticket was still on it and it was from Ross and the clearance price was $.99. I was shocked and started looking into Ross sales days. Tho it wasn’t $.49, I wld still rather pay $1 for a dress rather than regular price.

  5. Victoria

I scored my granddaughter light up Paw Patrol tennis shoes for .49 cents! They are so cute! Her first light up shoes and she loves them!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Aww, What a great buy! Thanks for sharing your score with us, Victoria! 🤗❤️

  6. Ann W Alcorn

    Great store

  7. Lisa

Not sure if I’ll chase the sale, but I do LOVE Ross. Definitely a great place to check for adding home decor and wardrobe pieces.

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

I was trying to decide this as well, Lisa. 😊 Hoping you spot some great deals, if you decide to make a trip to scope out your store! 🤞💗

  8. Serena Anders

I have a friend that works at Ross, and is always getting calls at the store around this time of year. There is no 49¢ sale! A couple things might get marked down low, but not all at the same time. I wish people would stop spreading rumors about a sale that doesn’t exist!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for the heads up on your friend’s location. 🙌 It seems some stores may have this unofficial sale by, on or around the 22nd.❤️

    • Monique

What is the harm in sharing that some things might be marked down to 49 cents in January I actually found two swim suit cover up for girls at my Ross in Vegas yesterday. God forbid the employees have to answer the phone lol Hip2save wasn’t negligent they said this was not an official sale. I worked at Ross a while ago and got a few things for 49 cents back in the day. I hope you have a better day you seem unnecessarily up in arms. You don’t even work there so who cares lol

    • Vanessa P

Serena, my aunt just purchased 100+ pieces for $60 in a Florida Location, so this sale is true. It may not be in all locations, though.

  9. NORA REYES

    77035 49¢sale starts when?

    • Trish (Hip Sidekick)

We’ve heard this will start at many stores on January 22, but it seems this can vary by location! Hoping you spot this sale at your store soon! 🤞💗

    • Michele

Don’t waste your time! Yes, there are things marked down, yes, there were items .48 cents, but if you weren’t in there when they opened everything is gone.
I am beginning to hate going there, during Christmas there kine was atleast 30 minutes long and only 2 cashiers working! Come on Ross, step up your game, there should have been 4 cashiers atlest! Today the line was even longer, the place was packed and only 1 cashier. I walked out.

      • Jae Sands

  10. Jill

I went there this weekend and found a pair of heels for 7.49!! Michael Kors leather pants for 12.99!! A ton of tops for 4.99,6.99!!

    • Jill

Oh I got a champion hoodie for 6.99 too!!!!

      • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Wow! Amazong deals for sure, Jill! Thanks for letting us know what you’ve scored! 🎉🙌

  11. orchidvines

Our store in Midlothian, VA went over the speaker and said there is no sale and all prices are as marked. Us and atleas a hundred other people are very disappointed.

    • Michelle Oliver

I went to the one in Glen Allen. Virginia. The line was long and out of the door. When the doors open people ran like black Friday. An employee lady was yelling at the shoppers because they were acting crazy. She yelled for some to pick up the merchandise they dropped and said if you don’t want it or if it doesn’t fit put it back for others. The manager in the back said it was only a few things marked already and the hype is big because it is all over the internet. I left with nothing, so I saved a ton! 🙂

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

DARN! So sorry to hear about that. Thanks for letting us know what you heard at your location. ❤️

  12. FSUGAL

My store in central Florida had no deals and very little stock in general. Didn’t see a single item that was marked to .49 cents. Maybe they don’t participate in this sale.

    • LadyDay

Thanks for the info!! I am in central Florida too!!!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Bummer! Thanks for sharing.❤️ Sorry to hear there wasn’t much to look through at your store.

  13. Judith OBrien

Is a scam is not true

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Very sorry for any confusion. ❤️ This is availble at some locations as an unofficial sale. Hoping you might still score some great buys at your store! 🤗

  14. Karen McFadden

I went to the store once and was treated like dirt by the cashier. I have not been back since. I hope it has improved. KLM

  15. Mommyof4

It varies by store. I’m in Southern California so we have many Ross stores. I went to two stores 4 miles apart…one was participating, the other wasn’t. I did get two pairs of men’s Nike shoes for $2.49 each .

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for the update about two locations near you, Mommyof4. Good to know it might be helpful to call ahead of making a trip to find if a store has these deep discounts. ❤️ Hoping you may have found some clearance finds to scoop up there!

  16. Karen Chavez

I went this morning and it was totally worth it. I found so much $.49 items in beauty, baby and toy department. Honestly, if you weren’t there right when they opened, it’s not worth going at this time. Everything is most likely gone at this point hope everyone found something good at least

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Awesome to hear you snagged several items marked down to 49¢, Karen! 🎉❤️

  17. Lisa

I went to Utah last weekend and they already had there items marked down I got a ton of Calvin Klein panties for .49-1.49 also found some sweaters and joggers for my adult son 1.49 some cute Xmas blankets and car accessories 1.49. Makeup from Sephora as well 1.49 eyeliner mascara lipsticks. Even cashier was suprised. Tons of earrings .49 super cute at the St. George location off the freeway. So it’s been happening. They had a pacman machine that you mount to the wall not 1.49 but marked down to 99.00. You know that came home with me. Sales have been happening oh and some 501 jeans for men usually 59 for 24.99.

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Yay for all the great bargains you’ve been snagging at your location, Lisa. 🤗❤️ Thanks for sharing about the variety you walked away with on your shopping trip.

  18. Monique

It’s not a stores choice to participate or not they are sent a markdown list from corporate you scan every item and a sticker comes out of a machine with a price on it when I worked there we got 49 cent items on occasion, and if it was something I could use, I might leave it in my cart and buy it at the end of my shift so it depends on when markdowns get done and who’s doing them sometimes we were behind and didn’t get them all done if managers are announcing stuff over the loudspeaker there’s a chance that they put all the stuff in the back room to avoid the chaos. I can’t say I blame them. Ross is a hard place to work and as one person posted people were acting crazy that’s the thing about Ross people go there and ravage things and it’s frustrating I don’t think the manager should’ve yelled but how hard is it to pick something up that you’ve dropped? The staff aren’t your slaves

  19. Af

This sale is true. I went to my Ross today found some cheap stuff. There were CK shoes for $2.99, Puma sneaker for $3.99, Under Armor hoodies for $2.49 / $3.49 and lots of great stuff for dirt cheap. I even saw a lot of stuff for $0.49, $0.99, $1.49 and more. I saw people checking out with tons of stuff.

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Very glad to know your store had some great markdowns, Af! Thanks for the update! 💖

  20. Cathy

On Friday, 1/19/24, my local Ross (Bay Area, CA) had several items marked down between $0.49 – $6.49. I got three sets of flameless candles in a 3-pack for $0.49/each. I thought it was an urban legend, but it’s true! 🙂

Not sure if many of the higher-priced clearance items went down to $0.49, and I’m kinda afraid to venture back into the store to check. lol!

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Nice find on the candles, Cathy! 🤗 Thanks for letting us know about the pricing at your nearby store!

  21. mist

crazy I went to my Ross. The girl working said to me only a few things where 49 cents. other things just got marked down some. I

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks a bunch for sharing about your experience, mist. It seems these markdowns may vary by location. 💕

  22. J

There was a huge line at mine before they opened so I guess word got around. I found a few bargains after digging around quite a bit. Not sure if I would make a special trip since the lines were really long but I was in the area and scored a few things 🙂 Thanks for the heads up!

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

You’re very welcome, J! 🤗 Great to hear you were able to snag a few deals at your location. 🙌

  23. MK

Went to 2 Rosses near me. Got there 10-11. Never seen so much crowd in there in the last 20 years. The clearance racks were empty. People had overflowing carts with hundreds of clothing items, shoes, bags between the multiple members of their families. Plus they had family members walking behind the employees that were scanning stuff and affixing the price stickers. Great for those that made it early with the full horde of their families! I left in 5 minutes not bothering to look around as these people were sharp and would’ve bagged whatever was worth bagging 😂

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

😱 WOW! Sounds like your location had a lot of great mark downs happening, MK. Thanks a bunch for hopping into the comments here to share about your experience. Bummer you weren’t able to snag any deals yourself on the trip.

  24. TD

I just popped in to my store – – as I walked in, about 5 ladies were walking out with tons of bags *overflowing* and filling up a big van with their purchases. Security was helping them carry it all out! Nearly every clearance rack in the store was empty – just a few ripped pieces of clothing, and a few tags marked higher in price. Bummed I missed out, but grateful for your post!

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Aww, so sorry to hear you weren’t able to grab any clearance goodies, TD. 😔 Sure appreciate your kind comment and letting us know how your shopping trip went. 💗

  25. Sharon

I wonder how much of this stuff was snatched up by resellers (due to those saying folks grabbed things without looking at sizes and having over-flowing carts) so they could make a big markup on ebay or poshmark? It sucks for those who are low income who just want to get some good deals for their own use.

  26. sjt

I am so sad we don’t have a Ross in my state! I wonder if Tj Maxx, Or Marshall’s also does this sale.

  27. Anne

I had never been to a Ross store before and decided to check this sale out. The store in my area was pretty much a dump. The shelves and store looked empty and picked over like the last days of a going out of business sale. To be fair, there were some things to buy and some discounted tags, though no .49 tags. Overall the merchandise looked cheap and the store looked bad. I would not return to shop at this store.

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Very sorry to hear you didn’t have a great experience on your trip, Anne. 💞 It sounds like others may have already been in there with the shelves and store looking so empty. Hoping you might find other great deals or items, if you do return to try them again after clearance season. 🤞

  28. Katie

I found my first ever .49 Ross Item. Ck hat and scarf set. Most likely will be in my donation box!

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Woohoo! Great to hear you scored one of these clearance items, Katie. 🎉
