Create This $7 Christmas Wreath Using a Wire Hanger & Dollar Tree Ornaments!
Here’s a stylish yet frugal DIY Christmas wreath that looks fancy!
If your home could use a little holiday cheer, consider making a festive DIY Christmas wreath this year using a wire hanger and plastic ornaments from the Dollar Tree! I spent just $7 making this wreath and love how it turned out.
Easy and frugal DIY Christmas decor is my fav!
Not only is my ornament wreath pretty, but the process was also pretty simple as well! Using a wire hanger is a genius no-cost wreath form as most of us already own one at home. I stopped at Dollar Tree to grab some ornaments and ended up buying 7 sleeves of the pretty gold and silver variety.
This idea is easy to incorporate into your Christmas decor by picking the ball ornaments that best match your style!
Tips for making a DIY Christmas wreath using a wire hanger:
- Plyers will help untwist and twist the ends of the hanger easier. A set of wire cutters also makes it simple to cut the rounded hanger end easier too. If you don’t have these on hand yet, these are great to have for crafting so you’ll likely use them again!
- You can also cut the wire to make a shorter wreath if desired. Say if you don’t have enough ornaments to make a full-sized wreath, one option is to cut the wire hanger a bit shorter.
- I used about 7 sleeves of ornaments from Dollar Tree. Some of them disconnected from their tops and fell off, which is a bummer. It’s helpful to have some hot glue and a glue gun on hand to fix the ornaments that separate. You can of course use shatterproof ball ornaments from other big box stores, that will likely be a bit higher quality.
- I think it would be fun to make an ornament garland instead of a wreath using the same technique. Then you can use it to decorate a dining table or cozy fireplace mantel.
- I added some black and white ribbon I already had on hand from the Holiday Time line found in-store at Walmart, and that part is optional and can be customized to taste.
Dollar Tree Christmas Ornament Wreath Using Wire Hanger
PrintSupplies Needed
- wire hanger
- plyers
- ball plastic ornaments
- ribbon
Directions
1
Untwist the hanger so the ends are untied. Use pliers if needed. Shape the wire into a circle shape, bending the wire as best you can.
2
Thread the ornaments one at a time, varying the colors a bit. It helps to tape the first ornament to the hanger and then continue adding ornaments all the way around the hanger.
3
Twist the hanger back together using plyers and cut the round hook portion of the wire hanger off using wire cutters. If desired, you could also leave the hook attached for hanging, though it will be visible.
4
Add ribbon to the top if desired.
5
Hang up your new wreath – enjoy!
This is a piece of decor you’ll be proud to display!
I love the stylish shiny look that a grouping of ball ornaments has altogether. This is such a cute project that’s also fun to complete. Have a craft night in and enjoy!
Create these 3 Christmas centerpieces from the Dollar Tree next!
Beautiful! I will make it. Thank You!
Nice!! Thanks Annette!
Great idea! I will be recycling last years ornaments for this project. Every year we each get to have a turn decorating the tree and to make it family involved we use the same ornaments from the previous but paint them to change the colors that way!
Oh that’s a neat idea – thanks for sharing sharing Mendy!
Thank you for this! So cute! I like the idea of table decor. My wheels are spinning…
Have fun Juliee!
Did you use different sized ornaments or are they all the same size?
You’re so creative. Thank you for all the beautiful ideas and wonderful recipes you share with all of us throughout the year. Thank you to the H2S team for all you do for all of us. I truly appreciate all the $ you’ve saved me.
Aw thanks Mary! So sweet and thanks for reading and stopping by.
I’ve done the wreath, now I want to try the garland!
Yes, so fun!
Beautiful and easy! Thanks so much for this post, I’m going to make one!
Thanks Tina! Have fun!
Wow that is so cute!!
Thanks so much!
A similar item sells for $40 on Amazon!!! You could probably sell these! I actually think they look better than the manufactured one.

So clever, as usual! I’m debating using my vintage ornaments for this, except… our cat and my clumsiness may be a poor match for the project. Ha!
Ooooh! Yeah I know I wouldn’t trust myself with that, but I bet it would be so pretty.
Great idea!! Thanks for sharing, it’s so cute and doable!!
Ack! Glitter makes me cringe 😬. It’s my kryptonite! Glitter is evil and impossible to get rid of!
You can definitely use non-glitter ornaments.
Around what size diameter does this end up being? It is lovely! And the ribbon (which I have as well) is a perfect complement.
I would say about 15 inches or so. Thanks so much. This is a fun craft!
