DIY Planter Using Dollar Tree Wreath Floral Rings
If you love Dollar Tree crafts, check out this unique dollar tree DIY planter with trendy mid-mod vibes!
Here’s a clever DIY project to try that’s cute and affordable.
I personally love easy home decor crafts. This stacked DIY planter idea transforms floral rings from Dollar Tree into a gorgeous modern-looking planter to display a faux plant on the cheap! The size is pretty substantial and no one would ever guess it’s made from dollar store materials.
We actually first spotted this stacked planter featured on Dollar Tree’s Instagram feed and immediately thought it was so smart! Kudos to this Instagram creator for thinking of it!
I am here to say that this Dollar Tree DIY planter is such a unique idea that turned out to look much more high-end, and you should consider taking some time to make one too!
$8.75 in Dollar Tree materials is such an affordable DIY price point.
Even though these floral rings are now $1.25 each, that’s okay because buying seven of them for this large-sized planter is fine by me and still a great deal! I grabbed a can of spray paint from the garage along with my glue gun so this project was super frugal!
Tips for making this Dollar Tree modern DIY planter:
- Feel free to pick a different color than black. I used a can of black spray paint I had on hand, but I think white or beige would be fun! Or maybe even one of those textured spray paints!
- I placed a skinny faux fiddle leaf fig plant on the inside on top of an upside-down bowl for some height. You can consider using a real plant as long as it’s potted in another container that would fit inside. Leave the cardboard bottom off if watering.
- Make sure to stand back and look at your stacking making sure it’s straight. Stacking it against a wall helps.
DIY Dollar Tree Modern Planter
PrintSupplies Needed
- 7 floral rings from Dollar Tree
- spray paint (in desired color)
- hot glue gun
- hot glue sticks
- cardboard cut in a circle to cover the bottom
Directions
1
Remove the labels from the wreath forms.
2
Using the hot glue gun, glue the rings in a stack one on top of the other. If you lean it against a wall it’s easier to stack them straight.
3
Glue the cardboard to the bottom of the planter.
4
Spray paint the outside, inside and the bottom of the planter with black spray paint or your desired color. Use light coats sprayed from 12″ away, allowing time to dry in between. Continue with multiple coats until an even coat is acheived. Let it dry completely.
5
Add a faux plant inside and display it on the floor or on a plant stand.
Oh my gosh, I love my new Dollar Tree DIY planter so much!
I placed an inexpensive faux fiddle fig plant I found at Ross inside to display and love how it turned out. The plant stand I’ve had for many years was most likely a HomeGoods score. Now, this little corner of my kitchen looks so happy and stylish. Anyone can do this paint project as it was super easy!
Be sure to come back and let me know if you try it!
I also use the FNISS trash can as a planter. I just drill drain holes in the bottom. It is $1.99 and because of the detailing, it looks like a pot and not a plastic trash can. Pots that big are pricey!
Oh that is so smart! Thanks for the idea Hardel!
Where did you find these for $1.99? Amazon sells them for $13.99- $17.99.
Holy cow, I can’t believe someone is charging that much on Amazon. They’re only 1.99 at Ikea.
Ikea
I completely left off Ikea. Sorry about that! Thanks to those who answered.
Do they become brittle after a year or so when used outdoors? Like the 5 gallon buckets from big box stores become brittle and break
Great idea!
Thanks! Glad you like this.
Lina, thx so much for this planter idea. My boys and I will have so much fun making these .God bless
oh yay!! So excited have fun!
Maybe I am missing something here but if you don’t have a water right seal on the bottom your plant will leak all over the place and eventually seap though the bottom piece won’t it?
Lol disregard, didn’t realize you used a fake plant in your example 🤣🤣🤣
Am I the only one that thinks this looks a little weird?
Nope. It is also strange to me but hey, kudos on the effort for creativity. 😂
Yeah, looks rough to me. Dollar store crafts look like fun to make but nothing you’d really want to display, kinda like those homemade “cake plates” made by gluing a plate to a candleholder that I see everywhere at Goodwill these days. Stone-textured spray paint might better disguise the Styrofoam, but $9 on wreath forms and another $10+ on better paint doesn’t make sense to me. I’d just shop around for a deal on a real pot that I love.
I’m finding many Dollar .25 Tree items cheaper at Walmart, Amazon and other stores. For example the same 1.25 box of matches are .94 at Walmart. Amazon has the same 1.25 dental floss for .98. Walgreens has free toothpaste deals. As a result, I don’t go anymore. Not worth the gas. I have not heard of anyone finding the “better” items they promised when they announced the price increase.
