This DIY Easter Egg Carton Gift Idea is Fun, Easy, & Egg-cellent!
Need a fun & easy Easter basket or gift idea?
Consider gifting little surprises inside plastic Easter eggs and presenting them in a wrapped egg carton!
It’s such a cute gift or Easter basket idea that kiddos will LOVE, plus it’s a clever way to recycle an egg carton you’d ordinarily throw away. I love this idea as it’s creative, and it’s easy for anyone to make!
Grab some small Easter treats and toys!
The good news is, you can go straight to Dollar Tree for everything you need, so this can be a super low-cost idea. I’d even look around the house for any small treats and toys you think would be fun.
I chose to spray paint my carton first, but that step is up to you. Then, all I did was fill my eggs and wrap up my carton. It’s an easy and ADORABLE gift idea.
Fun Easter egg filler ideas:
- Peeps, jelly beans, bunny graham crackers, chocolate coins, or other small, individually-wrapped candies
- silly putty, slime
- sticky stretchy hands, mini paratrooper toys, mini dinosaurs
- bouncy balls, stickers, temporary tattoos

This is such an EGG-cellent gift idea for Easter!
We are giving this as a small treat to our neighbor’s little boy, and I bet he’s gonna love opening all those little surprises! I loved putting this together and can see myself doing more in the future for all my little friends. You can even cut the egg carton in half and use six eggs instead of 12!
I’m going to let my kids fill one up to send to their cousin. So cute!
Oh that will be such a fun surprise!
Oooh! I love that idea. Maybe I’ll do the same.
I definitely should do this for my niece shes 12 .
My mom just passed, and she had raised her since birth.
What should I put in the eggs rather than the list above for preteen?
Ear rings, necklaces, gift cards, bath bombs, hand cream, and nail polishes.
Check out the dollar area Target for cute little items.
What a great idea! So creative!
Thanks so much Kate!
Are the plastic eggs food safe? Thanks!
Honestly – just use your judgement. If you’re not comfortable just used packaged foods/treats or skip and use small toys 🙂
Most aren’t and recommend wrapped candy only.
I love this. It looks like a fun and easy way to make a surprise to bring to the Grandparents and even to put together a cute hostess gift for Easter dinner using truffles or chocolate kisses. Thank you for the idea.
Oh yes! Fun idea <3 Thanks for sharing!
Great idea!
Love the idea!! My toddler is obsessed with eggs and “surprise” anything! He loves opening them and then the magic is done. Hatchimals would be awesome if they came in plastic egg things.
Thanks Sara! So fun to DIY your own!
Oh my goodness what a cute idea! Love the picture/movie at the end. This will be cute for my girls and for my 15 year son I might fill it up with money and gift cards. Keep those amazing ideas coming Lina!
Oh fun ideas Jackie!! Thanks for the sweet comment ❤️🙌
This is the perfect way to send some fun Easter treats to my college kiddo and his room mate.
Please don’t use bouncy balls, they are a choking hazard for all ages. Google and you can read the horror stories for yourself. I’ve seen it firsthand. They need to be removed from your home immediately. I’m not trying to start any drama. Lives can be saved if these are removed from your home.
