Free Printable Kids Screen Time and Reading Punch Cards
Need help limiting screen time for your kids this summer?
If too much screen time is an issue in your house like it is at mine, here’s a helpful tool to encourage some good habits like reading and helping around the house. These free printable reading and screen time cards are perfect to use over the summer when too much time on devices can be even more of an issue since school is out.

I’ve created one punch card to encourage reading and one to keep track of screen time. You can set the value and parameters for each. For instance, on the screen time punch card, you can reward time on the card for things like doing chores, good behavior, and reading. Then your child can “redeem” punches for screen time throughout the day.
Punch Card #1- Reading
How to Use the Reading Punch Card:
1.) Print the card on heavy card stock paper.
2.) Set a time for how much time you’d like your kids to read.
3.) Think of a reading reward or incentive based on what your child would enjoy (and is motivated by) like certain toys or fun activities.
4.) Use a hole punch to keep track of progress until a goal is reached.
Punch Card #2 – Screen Time

How to Use the Screen Time Printable Card:
1.) Print the card on heavy card stock paper.
2.) Give it to your child and let him/her know they can use it for “x” number of days/weeks/months and can redeem a punch whenever they want.
3.) When your child completes chores, reads, or does something outstanding, highlight each time they EARN a circle on the punch card. When they want to redeem a punch, which is screen time, then you actually punch it out.
The screen time struggle is real!
While summer can bring on the devices more than usual, hopefully these punch cards can be helpful for you, too!

We started an “Electronic Usage Program” at our house. (Sounds so official doesn’t it?) My boys and I came up with a list of ways to earn “tokens.” For example, reading, playing outside, helping with chores, practicing their instrument, riding bike, etc. We posted our official “Ways to Earn Tokens” list on the fridge. I have plastic cups with their names on them and I drop tokens in when they earn them. Then they choose when they want to redeem for their IPad or XBox. I told them that periodically we would have a “free afternoon” for being good brothers. We are only on day five, but I feel like it is working for us. Fingers crossed!
I love this!!! Good luck and keep us posted. Thanks for sharing 🙂
OMG that’s what I came up with my son but haven’t really started it yet
Maybe I should use the reading card to limit my kids book reading time. I have book worms who won’t put books down. Even in the middle of the night you’d find them sneaking in books under their covers. They need to stay active too.
