Amazon Sells DIY Backyard Guest Houses with Free Delivery
Did you know that Amazon sells DIY backyard guest houses?
These days, you can pretty much find anything you could possibly ever want or need on Amazon, including an entire DIY Backyard Guest House Kit delivered right to your doorstep. Who knew?! 😱
These kits are a great way to expand your living space without the cost of adding on to your home, and they can be used as a spare bedroom, office space, home gym, art studio, or just a quiet retreat when you need a brief escape.
Before you order one of these building kits, be sure to check with your local municipality or HOA. You may need to get your structure approved before you begin building.
And be sure to place your order several weeks in advance of when you plan to start your project. Everything takes longer to ship these days, so many of these kits now require 3-5 weeks for delivery.
In the meantime, it sure is fun to dream about having one of the following DIY retreats in your own backyard!
This beautiful garden house has lots of windows and a small footprint.
With all of those windows for natural light, the Allwood Chloe 123 sq. ft. Cabin Kit would make a lovely artist’s studio or home office.
This complete kit comes with everything you need to put it together (except for roofing shingles). It includes floor joists, ceiling boards, wall logs, doors, windows, a hardware package, and easy-to-follow assembly instructions for a total cost of $8,900 shipped.
This window-filled cabin would be ideal as a pool house or a lakeside retreat.
The Allwood Summerlight 150 sq. ft. Cabin Kit features a traditional, welcoming design that would be at home in any backyard. The large, polycarbonate glazed roof area combined with double doors and surrounding windows make this one of the most light-filled, airy cabins available. It’s currently priced at $8,990 shipped.
This structure functions as a backyard retreat and garden shed all in one.
Short on space? If your backyard only allows you enough room for one additional structure, then the Allwood Estelle 157 sq. ft. Cabin Kit could be the perfect multitasker for your property.
Priced at $8,460 shipped, this cabin has two rooms, each with a separate entrance. The larger room features windows and a large double door, while the windowless room in the rear would be perfect for use as a shed for your gardening tools or other outdoor storage needs.
This airy space would make a beautiful she shed or office space!
With all of those windows for natural light, the Allwood Solvalla 172 sq. ft. Studio Cabin Kit would make a lovely artist’s studio or home office. It’s currently priced at $8,795 with free delivery.
This guest house is a spacious yet cozy backyard retreat.
The Allwood Claudia 209 SQF Cabin Kit would make a great resort-style outbuilding to accommodate your guests or serve as a poolside clubhouse. It would also make a great exercise space, a yoga retreat, or a remote office that you’ll actually look forward to working in! It’s currently priced at $10,990 with free shipping.
And what’s really fun about these Amazon DIY House Kits is that you can customize and paint them however you’d like!
IMPORTANT NOTE: if you want to add anything extra, like air conditioning, plumbing, or electricity to any of these homes, you’ll need to do that yourself or hire a profressional. They don’t include any of those features.
Would you build your own tiny house with one of these kits?
Check with your local planning and zoning offices to make sure you can actually have/build one of these before you order it.
As well as your HOA. We just laid a foundation for a customer who was having a shed built and it was a nightmare. I explained to him that he needed a permit drawings site plans before he could install the shed, but height restrictions were a big issue to. In the end I actually took on that project for him and got the builder to redesign building and I got it approved and installed. Headaches that could have been prevented had he just listened to me and/or taken the time to contact his local county planning department.
If I put concretvubder a shed u need a permit if not on concrete u dont need a permit
Your mileage may vary with this depending on your jurisdiction. Some go by square footage; some by foundation; some by connected utilities.
Check with your local permitting authority to be safe.
Best way to do 1 of these is to build it on a trailer frame with wheels because #1 u wont need a building permit because not considered a permanent structure and #2 u could then use it for camping trips, i love them
Great idea, and you could try out tiny home life and just sell it if you don’t like it or circumstances change.
Is there free returns, lol?
lol =P
Lol……Good question…Lol
Just take it to Kohlβs. When they open hahaha
Kohls employee here……noooooooooooo!!!!!!!!! Lol
ππππππ
LOL π
Hahaha π€£
At that price you may as well get a shipping container and make it into one of these or locally I think we have prebuilt small houses or whatever you want to call them for about the same price π€·πΌββοΈπ€·πΌββοΈπ€·πΌββοΈ
Haha what a great question
these are great. my son (turns 27 today) just moved home for the third time. rather that uproot bedrooms for 3 siblings who have been smart enough not to leave until they can afford to we had an 8×12 costco shed insulated sheet rocked and painted. bigger than his sisters room. he has privacy and doesnβt disturb us. iβd love to have a functional tiny home built so the kids always have a place to visit or fall back on
Thatβs exactly what I thought. If my kids needed to come home after college, then this would work great. + I love ur name bc I use shop4dafam as an email for all my shopping needs π€£ππ½
When my son was in 5th grade, that’s what he asked me for his grad present. I told him it would be hot coz it’s not insulated and there’s no bathroom, plus there may be bugs. He changed his mind after i said bugs π€£π
What about a bathroom?
we do allow him to come in the house lol
Are you talking about the plastic storage shed?? You can insulate and use it as a regular bedroom?? I need that so bad. I am sharing a small room with my 7 ry old GD and I need my own space!!
I’ve wanted one of these little houses since the first time H2S posted one. I would put it in my backyard and use it as an office/she-shed. Super cute!
Me too! I’ve wanted a she shed since I saw the show on TV years ago. Those things are adorable!
I want one to make it a year around Christmas room. So far its a no from hubby. =(
My dream is to build one of these for my disabled son. I like the idea of giving and teaching him independence but having him close enough to protect and enjoy his company.
What a wonderful idea, Jess! I hope your wish can come true.
Thatβs wonderful!
Yes. I was thinking the exact same thing for our daughter. In very optimistic but also realistic. She will never be able to live on her own but this would definitely give her a sense of independence but with us very close by.
What a wonderful idea! I hope you find a solution that works for u & ur family.
Iβve been dreaming of doing this for my younger brother who has Downs Syndrome. Itβll probably end up having to happen some day once my parents are unable to care for him.
I hope you’re able to do that! My sister wants one for her 21 year old son, who has Aspergers. He does have a small job in a bakery, doing dishes and cleaning up, but he’ll never be able to live on his own. And he could really be taken advantage of by any roommates, friends, etc. Having his own tiny house in the backyard would let him feel more like an adult. And I know my sister would like the peace and quiet, lol
Jess our neighbor did that for his daughter. She couldn’t live by herself. It had a window unit and all. That way they could keep and eye on her. Plus I think they loved the quiet time. It worked great she loved it.
When we were looking at houses to purchase our realtor would call them mother In law dens. He said many people had them for their elderly parents that want privacy but need assistance. Itβs a great option as a starter place for a couple to save money for future home purchase or pay off student debt faster.
is there a bathroom?
No
Is the town allow to put in the backyard?
Most towns let you, but some don’t. You can ask your town’s Planning office.
I would totally buy one if I had the funds. Hello Sheshed!
Awesome π
Has anyone seen one like this that includes a restroom? Iβd love to have one but needs to have at least space for a toilet and sink π

This one has a loft and bathroom for $19,990.
Amazon has nothing on Sears (Sears, Roebuck and Co). They sold houses in their catalog in the 30s/40s.

Yes. If anyone does the Route 66 tour stop in Carlinville, IL to see a large number of the houses.
I watch a YouTuber who is the oldest of 10 siblings. Her parents built something like this on their property so when the kids turned 17 they could move out there. They’d begin to have the responsibility and privacy of living on their own but were still close to the parents if needed. I always thought that it was a cool idea as a way to transition into adulthood.
Can u ship this to someones backyard and i will build it and live there?
This would be cool if it had a full bathroom of some sort in there
Portajohnny
some of the models do have a bathroom area in the floorplan… but of course, you’d have to make sure to have all the plumbing set up just like you would the electrical. it’s pretty cool though
Wouldnβt a camper in the driveway be simpler? π€£
And you could easily hook up to the water and electric in the house, and wouldn’t need a permit.
I think the camper idea is better plus if you wanted to get rid of it later you could just sell it.
Not legal in some areas
These are really cool. This seems like an idea for maybe an adult child moving in to help w their parents and they want a little privacy, but close by to assist. Or a she-shed…yes…. The price point is high, considering there are no bathrooms in them. Even an RV style thing…may be more economical to go the shed route as some mentioned or put a small camper out there…hey, weather permitting there has been some sweet tent sales on H2S :p
This would make an awesome she shed/craft room!
Yes!!!! My dream, a craft shed!!
We would have to pay taxes on it, so a no for us. We also require permits. You have to have a concrete pad or gravel for it based on building codes and that could increase the costs.
You know what? The hubby, kids and the dog can have the house I’ll be the one to move into this…please and thank you very much.
Wow this seems like a great idea. Low upkeep, privacy when you want it and no monthly payments! ππ
If u have 20K+ instalation cost. If not you will be making payments @ a heafty interest rate too!
Is there one that comes with a security gate and lock system? Because I worry the kids, pets and husband would follow me inside.
Lol π same thought here. π
These are very cute but at that price point I live in the country and we donβt have any building restrictions so I think Iβd have to go with a good used mobile home that has a full kitchen, 2 to 4 bedrooms, and 1 to 2 bathrooms. Around here a lot of young couples will buy new mobile homes as starter homes then when they can afford to they purchase a home. You can find a lot of good used mobile homes at a fraction of the original cost. But if you live in town this probably wonβt work for you. These are aesthetically more pleasing to the eye.
