For some, finding your design style is easy peasy!

For others, it can be really difficult to decide between all the gorgeous trends out there nowadays. (It’s okay to like more than one.) But before you begin decorating a space in your home, it’s important to develop your design style. This will ensure that over the long run, you’ll love the space you’ve created and all the decor items in it.

1. Farmhouse design

I am farmhouse. That was fun! I don’t go with just one style, if I love something I use it to decorate.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Yay! SO glad you enjoyed the quiz! Thanks for sharing your style with us, Ann!

  2. Suz in OH

Farmhouse here too! Fun quiz, but I bet I was all over the place, especially since i liked many of the choices. Would have loved to see percentages for my results.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

I liked many of the choices too! Thanks for the feedback!

  3. Sara

With the exception of 5, 7, and 9, I had to choose the least ugly of the six choices. I don’t do flowers, I think throw pillows are pointless, and I despise farmhouse sinks.

I like the way modern Japanese looks. In reality, my apartment looks nothing like that. It isn’t decorated in any particular style. It isn’t decorated at all. I prioritize function over appearance.

    I like:
    •cherry wood floors and cabinets
    •upper kitchen cabinets
•plain brushed nickel door knobs, drawer pulls, and faucets
    •no massive vent hoods
•kitchen appliances that are both black and stainless
    •double brushed nickel kitchen sinks
•gray granite kitchen and bathroom countertops
    •undermount bathroom sinks
    •bathroom floors with no grout
    •no carpet anywhere
    •no fireplaces
    •no overly large windows
    •no ridiculously high ceilings
    •no popcorn ceilings
    •no textured walls
    •flushmount brushed nickel ceiling fans
•stackable white front loading washer and dryer with silver knobs/buttons
    •white walls
    •white crown moulding and baseboards
•La-Z-boy dark brown leather couch with overstuffed arms, no nail heads, and no exposed stitching
    •all furniture along walls
•closed storage with no glass shelves or glass doors
•no built-in storage in any room other than kitchen, bathrooms, and laundry room
•no interior or exterior french doors
•front door with only a peephole
•no windows on either side of front door
    •cherry blossom/bridge/rock garden/Torii gate artwork
    •no smart home anything
    •no LED bulbs
•a “dumb” Vizio 55″ flat screen TV with 4 HDMI ports and a center stand instead of those moronic peg legs

    Can anyone define my style?

    • Alexis

      Minimalistic?

  4. Lava Maui

I got “Modern.” Right on as my favorite design is mid-century design with minimalism and bold patterns and colors. I was praying I didn’t get something far off like farm-house style. Lol.

  5. Go Zags

My style came back traditional though I do like the mid-century design especially in furniture.

  6. ArmyBrat09165

Vintage for sure. I love going to flea markets and finding awesome finds for my home.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh! Yes! I love flea markets too! Thanks for the suggestion!

  7. Melissa

I had trouble viewing the decor aspects for the quiz. Using my Mac they were about an inch square in size. Hard to get a good look to make my choices.

    • Sara

Oh no, Melissa! I’m sorry to hear that! Can you let me know a little more about what you were seeing or send me a screenshot of what it looks like on your end? You can send it directly to my email sara@hip2behome.com and our team will see if we can fix this for you! We definitely want all of our readers to have a great experience on our site. Thanks so much!

  8. Tracey

Coastal! Nailed it! I’m not really a “beach” person but love the relaxed, coastal look. I’ve always wanted to decorate a house in that theme; especially since my son is in the Coast Guard!! Fun quiz; thank!s!

    • Sara

That is so awesome, Tracey! I also love that style so much, thanks for sharing your results with us! Have a great day.

  9. Jeannie

    Coastal…how true is this!
I love the Lake Erie..I love any water!
this was so fun…I never really knew that I had a style!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

I know! SO neat to find your style! My result was Coastal too!

  10. Emily

I got traditional – seems pretty spot on! This was fun.

  11. col

I am modern for sure….BUT….. I put a little bit of farm house to soften the look. Clear glass and greenery.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

I love that, Col! I have been adding some greenery to my home decor style these days too!

  12. Samantha bennett

I’m a mixture of farmhouse & shabby chic! I love combining them together

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

      That’s a great combination, Samantha!

  13. Marie

Mostly farmhouse with a little traditional
