More Storage Tips & Ideas

The life of the mudroom floor…

Need some simple and effective shoe storage ideas at home? First, the kids come home from school, and they kick off their shoes (who knew they wore five different pairs a day?!). The husband throws off his work shoes and takes out his gym shoes from earlier that morning. And then there’s you… neatly placing yours down in a sea of mix-matched mayhem.

Believe it or not, there are many functional and affordable shoe storage solutions available at Target for your shoe problems, and they’re so easy, even the kids will enjoy staying organized!

1. Large basket

Want a quick and easy solution for tossing all your shoes somewhere? Try placing a large basket by your door, so right when people slip off their shoes, they can toss them inside. I even love that #3 has a lid so you don’t see any of the clutter.

  2. Threshold Decorative Oval Basket Water Hyacinth – 💰💰
  3. Opalhouse Decorative Basket with Lid – 💰💰💰

“We have a large basket near our front door for the day to day, and all the shoes go in there when everyone walks inside. Whenever it starts to get full, I go through it and put shoes back in the closet that we don’t use as often and leave everyday shoes in there for ALL of us! It works perfectly to just grab and go!”Erica

2. Shoe shelf

These shoes shelves are great for storing shoes for easy access. With a tiered-style shelf, you can easily store more shoes while taking up less floor space. With this style of storage, you can also see which shoes are available more easily.

  3. Honey-Can-Do 3-Tier Deluxe Bamboo Shoe Rack – 💰💰💰

While these are all stylish and practical solutions, I really love option #1 because the shelves are stackable, making your storage possibilities endless! Not to mention, it also comes in espresso if you prefer your color palette to extend beyond white.

3. Cubbies

Using shoe cubbies as a storage solution is perfect for families with more than just a few shoes hanging out on the floor. It’s an easy way to have a space for each pair of shoes and still keeping things stylish.

  3. Space Saving Shoe Storage Cabinet, drifted gray – 💰💰💰

“At one time, we were raising six kids, and I needed to find a better solution than just the baskets we were using. My brother ended up making a built-in cubby. It was perfect for the kids to take off their shoes and put them in the cubby before they enter the house. We can also put things on top of the cubbies, like gloves and such. It was a huge lifesaver. Additionally, above the cubbies, we added some hooks so they could hang all of their jackets.”Jennifer

4. Small baskets

You might love the idea of basket storage, but one large basket isn’t always practical. Whether you savor smaller storage options – or you simply don’t want to share yours with everyone else – we love these smaller, individual basket options for shoes!

These can be perfectly stored in a cube organizer, under a bench, on a shelf, or simply by themselves!

5. Hanging storage

If you have a nearby closet (or even a door that you can use), these hanging storage solutions are the perfect way to easily conceals all your shoes. These systems keep shoes tidy and free from taking up space all over the floor.

I especially love #1 so you can easily store shoes on the back of your door. Most people have no use of the backside on their door, so this is really a good way to maximize all your space!

Sweet! I have 2 boys with size 15 and 16 feet so the shoes at my front door are a serious hazard !! I love these ideas! Thanks

I can relate! You’re welcome, Christine! SO happy these ideas will be helpful!

  2. Donna

I have a combination of a cubby system (handles 12 pairs, stands on the floor) and shelves. Couldn’t use the over the door hanger as I have a bifold door to my closet. Also, the closet system I have has more open shelving – not a bar I can use. Floor cubbies/shelves are GREAT so I can see everything and even sort by style/color

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

Sounds like you have a good system going on, Donna!
