See How You Can Get $30 Towards Your Internet Each Month
The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) is helping more households have access to internet. Does your family qualify for the ACP program? Find out here!
The Affordable Connectivity Program is helping millions save on the Internet. 💻
With an internet-based society and economy, it’s tough to get by in today’s world without access to high-speed internet. The problem is that there are still many people struggling to afford it. That’s why Congress created the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP). It was established under the 2021 bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and your household might just qualify to take advantage of these ACP benefits!
What is the ACP?
The program launched in December of 2021 and is overseen by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The program is not necessarily a free government internet service nor does it guarantee free internet for low-income families. What it does do is offer monthly savings to those in need. If these monthly savings are more than your internet bill, you could technically receive free internet!
How does the FCC Affordable Connectivity Program work?
There are several internet service providers who work with the program to help expand access to high-speed internet. Sign up with one of these participating service providers and they will apply the savings directly to your internet bill.
Eligible households can receive $30 a month towards their bill, and the government will up that amount to $75 per month for eligible households living on Tribal lands!
Plus, qualifying households can also receive a one-time payment of $100 to buy a laptop, desktop computer, or a tablet from the participating provider.
It’s important to note that these discounts are per household and not per family member or roommate. That means each household is entitled to just one device discount and one monthly service discount.
Do you qualify for ACP benefits?
Here are the requirements:
- Your annual household income is at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines (about $60K for a family of four or $29K for an individual)
- Anyone in the household (including dependents of all ages) participates in government assistance programs like SNAP, Medicaid, WIC, Federal Housing Assistance, Tribal assistance programs, or other similar programs
- Someone in the household receives a Lifeline benefit
- You qualify for the program through a participating provider’s existing low-income program
For a full list of eligibility requirements, visit the Affordable Connectivity Program website.
Are you eligible? Here’s how to enroll in the ACP program…
Applying for the program is pretty straightforward. Here’s what you need to do:
- Visit GetInternet.gov and click apply to fill out and submit your application. If you need a paper copy, you can print the application or call the ACP Support Center at 877-384-2575.
- Once approved, call your local internet provider to choose a plan and have the discount directly applied to your monthly bill. To find a participating provider, use the Companies Near Me Tool on GetInternet.gov’s website.
One perk of the ACP program is that YOU get to choose the internet service plan that meets your household’s needs. Plus, you can sign up with a participating provider despite a low credit score or history of having debt with that internet provider. 🙌
That’s not all! Should you wish to switch to a different participating provider, you can do so without incurring fees or penalties for early termination.
How long will the Affordable Connectivity Program last?
There is currently no end date for the ACP program. It was set up to be a long-term initiative. If you qualify, this could be a great solution to help you afford your monthly bills.
