ALDI Acquires Winn-Dixie & Harvey Supermarkets
ALDI continues its growth with a new acquisition.
Last year, ALDI announced it was expanding its Gulf Coast operations with 22 new stores. Now, ALDI has set its sights on the Southeast. The popular grocery chain just announced that it will acquire Winn Dixie and Harvey Supermarket.
As a result, ALDI will gain 400 new stores and hopes to bring more access to great products at low prices. The stores will serve those in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi. Some stores may remain under the name Winn-Dixie or Harvey Supermarket while others will be under the name ALDI.
Back in the 1990s was when ALDI first came to the Southeast. Since then, the grocer has invested $2.5 billion in the region! 🙌
We suspect this merger may offer job opportunities…
Though many other retailers nationwide are shutting doors or downsizing, ALDI is doing the opposite and it may be beneficial to those in the areas they serve! This merger may just make way for some job opportunities!
In fact, ALDI recently opened their 26th regional headquarters and distribution center. This headquarters is located in Loxely, Alabama, and there are plans to open 20 new stores in the area by the end of the year!
When asked about the merger, Jason Hart, the CEO of ALDI, said, “The time was right to build on our growth momentum and help residents in the Southeast save on their grocery bills. The transaction supports our long-term growth strategy across the United States, including plans to add 120 new stores nationwide this year to reach a total of more than 2,400 stores by year-end.”
If you’re looking for employment, keep an eye on Aldi’s website. There are currently almost 2,000 openings nationwide and we suspect there will be more to come!
