Here’s our Hip team’s favorite grocery name brands worth paying full price…
“I am a southern mayonnaise girl – a very picky one. No matter the price, Blue Plate mayo is the only mayonnaise worthy of our family recipes; mom’s potato salad, pimento cheese, deviled eggs, tuna salad, home fries, mac n cheese casserole…it’s all better with Blue Plate. It’s really creamy, with just the right amount of tanginess that doesn’t intrude or overpower like Miracle Whip, but gives the perfect flavor base to build on.
Now that I’m thinking about my favorite southern comfort foods, I also swear by these red beans – I use them to make my cheater red beans, sausage and rice. Instead of several hours, it takes about 30 mins without giving up flavor or texture.” – Cara
“The one brand my family is super loyal to is Nabisco Oreos. We’ve tried a few other grocery brands of them through the years (ALDI, Publix, Walmart). I even bought some fakes and put them in the Nabisco packaging, but my kids and husband immediately knew 🤣. Nothing even comes close to the taste of Nabisco Oreos, so even if they are double the cost, they are worth it.
I feel the same about Lucky Charms cereal, like, I know that is not my magically delicious marshmallow. It’s General Mills or no cereal at all for me!” – Liz
“I’m the same about Post with their Fruity Pebbles. I have tried the generics, and I am confident that in a blind taste test, I would know the real Fruity Pebbles out of a group of wannabes. 😂 I feel that way about most generic cereals, and sometimes I don’t mind that they’re not spot on, but Pebbles are my fave so nothing comes close lol!“ – Emily
“Ooohh yes – so true about the Oreos! And also, Hershey’s unsweetened cocoa powder for baking and Heinz ketchup for me. Why do other brands of ketchup even exist?? 😂“ – Jenna R
“Oreos for sure. Also, Kellogg’s Raisin Bran – the generic and Post-brand versions just don’t taste as good. In fact, with most cereals, the generic versions always taste a little bit off.“ – Angela
“Best Foods Mayonnaise. I can’t with the avo oil ones or store brand. PS – Best Foods Mayonnaise continues to sell west of the Rockies, while Hellmann’s sells to the east. LOL!” – Lina
We can’t wait to hear your go-to grocery store name brands!
Stay tuned for more Hip Birthday giveaway posts all week long! 🎉 Until then, let’s get back to the deals…
Heinz ketchup and only Heinz ketchup
Great Value has so many great options and I think they’re either the same product with their own logo or pretty darn close. I looked a lot of Kroger brand items as well.
Heinz ketchup. I won’t buy another kind.
There are many to choose from! Hershey’s syrup
Bounty paper towels. I have tried other brands and keep coming back to them. I stock up when they are on sale and I have a coupon.
Glad Cling Wrap! I’ve tried cheaper brands… talk about frustrating! Once you’ve tried and failed to separate that generic wad of sticky wrap, you know you’ve made a terrible mistake! Life advice- spend the extra $2.00!
Walmart’s Great Value brand as well as Walmart’s other generic brands such as Freshness guaranteed, Bettergoods and Sam’s Choice.
Kelloggs Raisin Bran is a must – not any other brand. And must be either Diet Pepsi or Diet Coca Cola – store brand will not do! 😃
When I drink a soft drink which is not often, I will only drink Diet Coke. I also only like Heinz Ketchup and Nabisco Oreos.
I really tried to like sardines since I found out they were so good for your bones, but could not find a brand that I could stomach! I finally found LaSirena brand sardines in spicy tomato sauce and that hooked me. I realize it’s not everyone’s fav food but I tried different brands and found this the only one I looked forward to eating. I’m normally a store brand girl but I’ll buy this brand since it’s been consistently good and reasonably priced.
Reese’s peanut butter cups, haven’t tasted a better one yet
Reeses and oreos
Oreos for sure!
Mission low carb tortillas!! Taste just like regular ones – they are do delish!!🥰
When I bake, I will only use domino sugar! Cheaper brands just don’t work. Also, Heinz Ketchup!
Definitely Aldi
Whataburger spicy ketchup and Hellman’s mayonnaise. I won’t buy anything else.
Sodas have to be name brand, I can’t do the off brand colas! I’m a Pepsi girl! Kirkland toilet paper! I refuse to use anything else now (Costco)
There are a lot of good brands, but one stands out as far as freshness goes. That would be Simple Truth. Their products are really good and I’ve switched over, from several others.
Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
Kroger Private Selection and Simpler Truth
Good Culture cottage cheese
Ziplock!! If it doesn’t zip- it’s pointless
Heinz ketchup! There is no other that even compares. Believe me, we’ve tried the others. We’ve gone to restaurants that didn’t have Heinz ketchup and got our food to go. Gotta have the good stuff!!
Coke and Oreos. Can’t do generic of those 😆
I have to agree with someone else about the cling wrap. Ugh the store brand is the worst so hard to use!
Also love heinz ketchup not off brand. Same for Oreos.
I really like Zatarains brand of rice dishes. There is a good variety of dishes too. So many to choose from and they are so versatile . So many things can be added to make it your own .
I like Great Value/Equate at Walmart. I purchased lots of this brand(s) weekly.
Scott toilet paper
We eat mostly great value or other walmart exclusive brands but Aldi is pretty good too . If I want vanilla ice cream it has to be breyers.
Fiber One cereal- the original. Nothing beats the fiber for the calories. Expensive but worth it.
Diet Mt. Dew, Red Gold Ketchup and Red Gold Salsa
Makers Mark
Fage 2% plain yogurt and True Made Foods honey mustard and ketchup.
100% Charmin toilet paper
Unsure if it counts but I like Kirkland products from Costco. Many time they are the higher priced name brands repackaged
Targets Good and Gather. I love these products and the6 are so much cheaper. Pre cooked chicken, shredded and sliced cheese, milk, pasta sauces, etc.
Svenards bear claws
Kirkland brand
Heinz- my parents are from Pittsburgh. I don’t want to be disowned.
😂
And brand products, Heinz SF ketchup, Heinz Mayo and store brand products members mark and Kirkland!
Kirkland! Food, clothes, medicines, or anything they make!
bowl abd basket from shoprite. their items are awesome and so much cheaper than the leading brands
Food Lion!! I don’t mind shopping at Walmart, but the produce is better at Food Lion!
Member’s Mark! The Bettergoods brand from Walmart is quickly catching up to it!
Dr Pepper and Heinz ketchup, I can NOT do the store brands on either of these!
Coke
Nilla wafers
Bowl and Basket from Shoprite!
Nabisco Oreos! Most things I’m willing to try the store brands for and I have tried it for the Oreo cookies but there’s just no comparison! Nabisco Oreos all the way.
Great value has to be my favorite grocery store brand. Love the price on the soda, especially with the prices today!
