Here’s our Hip team’s favorite grocery name brands worth paying full price…
“I am a southern mayonnaise girl – a very picky one. No matter the price, Blue Plate mayo is the only mayonnaise worthy of our family recipes; mom’s potato salad, pimento cheese, deviled eggs, tuna salad, home fries, mac n cheese casserole…it’s all better with Blue Plate. It’s really creamy, with just the right amount of tanginess that doesn’t intrude or overpower like Miracle Whip, but gives the perfect flavor base to build on.
Now that I’m thinking about my favorite southern comfort foods, I also swear by these red beans – I use them to make my cheater red beans, sausage and rice. Instead of several hours, it takes about 30 mins without giving up flavor or texture.” – Cara
“The one brand my family is super loyal to is Nabisco Oreos. We’ve tried a few other grocery brands of them through the years (ALDI, Publix, Walmart). I even bought some fakes and put them in the Nabisco packaging, but my kids and husband immediately knew 🤣. Nothing even comes close to the taste of Nabisco Oreos, so even if they are double the cost, they are worth it.
I feel the same about Lucky Charms cereal, like, I know that is not my magically delicious marshmallow. It’s General Mills or no cereal at all for me!” – Liz
“I’m the same about Post with their Fruity Pebbles. I have tried the generics, and I am confident that in a blind taste test, I would know the real Fruity Pebbles out of a group of wannabes. 😂 I feel that way about most generic cereals, and sometimes I don’t mind that they’re not spot on, but Pebbles are my fave so nothing comes close lol!“ – Emily
“Ooohh yes – so true about the Oreos! And also, Hershey’s unsweetened cocoa powder for baking and Heinz ketchup for me. Why do other brands of ketchup even exist?? 😂“ – Jenna R
“Oreos for sure. Also, Kellogg’s Raisin Bran – the generic and Post-brand versions just don’t taste as good. In fact, with most cereals, the generic versions always taste a little bit off.“ – Angela
“Best Foods Mayonnaise. I can’t with the avo oil ones or store brand. PS – Best Foods Mayonnaise continues to sell west of the Rockies, while Hellmann’s sells to the east. LOL!” – Lina
We can’t wait to hear your go-to grocery store name brands!
Stay tuned for more Hip Birthday giveaway posts all week long! 🎉 Until then, let’s get back to the deals…
Dudes mayo
Heinz kerchup
Safeway Signature & O organics
Cedar’s hummus! So good!
Ritz crackers! Yum.
I usually buy whatever’s on sale or cheaper, store brand (ShopRite, stop&shop, CVS) vs name brand. I only buy Scott TP, the store brands can’t compare. Plus, no generic cola, Diet CF Pepsi or Coke!
Tru Fruit frozen fruit with chocolate
chobini yogurt:)
Aldis everything! Their quality is always on point.
Kirkland! I have yet to find a Kirkland product I didn’t love. Quality AND affordability!
My favorite store brand is Wegmans semi sweet chocolate chips. They are dairy free and are $2-5 cheaper than other dairy free brands. I use it to make allergy friendly desserts for picnics.
Heinz 57 or A1 steak sauce. I’ve tried the store brands and other “look alikes” and they are never very good. I’ll either use these or nothing.
Definitely Helmans Mayo!!
Aldi’s shells and cheese
Oikos Triple Zero yogurt. It’s the best and I would pay whatever it costs for it!
Aldi’s,Lidl and Trader Joe’s! I’ve liked everything they’ve had and the quality and price is unbeatable!
Great Value Cheerios. Savoritz flatbreads and snack crackers. Great Value spices. 365 peanut butter.
Ortega Taco Sauce!
I would have to say Kroger, Great Value or Member’s Mark.
Fresh, True Goodness, Purple Cow–Meijer brand
I really like Great Value cereals.
PEPSI!
Heinz Ketchup is the brand I never change from. It definitely has a taste and consistency that is different from other brands.
Kirkland at Costco
Good and Gather
Heinz ketchup. Husband said he’d divorce me if I buy a different brand.
Jif peanut butter and Heinz ketchup
Prego spaghetti sauce is our favorite. Some of the other brands just don’t hit the spot.
wegmans
Dutch Farms has never disappointed me. The quality & taste with all the dishes I make is always there.
Heinz ketchup is the best to me!
Swans Down Cake flour is the standard for my vanilla cake.
Duke’s mayo, Hidden Valley Ranch, & Campbell’s cream soups!
For me, soda has to be name brand along with Oreos and cereal. Other than that, I’m flexible.
Pepsi and Kellogg’s
My husband swears by Ritz! Nothing else is as good in his opinion.
Special K
Ghirardelli chocolate chips are the only chocolate chips I use.
Members Mark and Great Value. But I never buy generic ketchup or mayo! Has to be Heinz and Kraft or Hellmans
Best foods mayo
Aldi brand, dye free!
The aldi brand Millville bc they don’t use bht and food dye like all the other brand names
Diet Coke by far. No other diet cola can compare.
Fig Newtons cookies. Other brands just don’t measure up!
General Mills Cheerios. I have tried the off brand Cheerios and they just don’t taste the same.
I have a hard time choosing between Great Value and Trader Joe’s. I guess my go-to would be GV.
Kirkland brand at Costco! Always a great deal!!!
The main thing is to know the prices at the store you normally shop at especially if it’s name brands ,so you can compare . I will switch out just about any name brand for Great Value products to try .
Heinz ketchup!!
Great Value at Walmart
