Here’s our Hip team’s favorite grocery name brands worth paying full price…
“I am a southern mayonnaise girl – a very picky one. No matter the price, Blue Plate mayo is the only mayonnaise worthy of our family recipes; mom’s potato salad, pimento cheese, deviled eggs, tuna salad, home fries, mac n cheese casserole…it’s all better with Blue Plate. It’s really creamy, with just the right amount of tanginess that doesn’t intrude or overpower like Miracle Whip, but gives the perfect flavor base to build on.
Now that I’m thinking about my favorite southern comfort foods, I also swear by these red beans – I use them to make my cheater red beans, sausage and rice. Instead of several hours, it takes about 30 mins without giving up flavor or texture.” – Cara
“The one brand my family is super loyal to is Nabisco Oreos. We’ve tried a few other grocery brands of them through the years (ALDI, Publix, Walmart). I even bought some fakes and put them in the Nabisco packaging, but my kids and husband immediately knew 🤣. Nothing even comes close to the taste of Nabisco Oreos, so even if they are double the cost, they are worth it.
I feel the same about Lucky Charms cereal, like, I know that is not my magically delicious marshmallow. It’s General Mills or no cereal at all for me!” – Liz
“I’m the same about Post with their Fruity Pebbles. I have tried the generics, and I am confident that in a blind taste test, I would know the real Fruity Pebbles out of a group of wannabes. 😂 I feel that way about most generic cereals, and sometimes I don’t mind that they’re not spot on, but Pebbles are my fave so nothing comes close lol!“ – Emily
“Ooohh yes – so true about the Oreos! And also, Hershey’s unsweetened cocoa powder for baking and Heinz ketchup for me. Why do other brands of ketchup even exist?? 😂“ – Jenna R
“Oreos for sure. Also, Kellogg’s Raisin Bran – the generic and Post-brand versions just don’t taste as good. In fact, with most cereals, the generic versions always taste a little bit off.“ – Angela
“Best Foods Mayonnaise. I can’t with the avo oil ones or store brand. PS – Best Foods Mayonnaise continues to sell west of the Rockies, while Hellmann’s sells to the east. LOL!” – Lina
We can’t wait to hear your go-to grocery store name brands!
Stay tuned for more Hip Birthday giveaway posts all week long! 🎉 Until then, let’s get back to the deals…
Coke products, Heinz ketchup, Sweet Baby Ray’s barbecue sauce, and Hellman’s Mayo for starters.
Aldi brand cottage cheese is the BEST cottage cheese.
I swear by Jif peanut butter!
HEB! If you in Texas you know! Lol
Kirkland creamy organic peanut butter. Best taste, price and quality.
Hellman’s Mayonnaise! No other’s compare!
Miracle Whip
oikos triple zero greek yogurt, great value, or light&fit for nonfat vanilla greek yogurt. everything else tastes weird
Hellman’s & Kewpie Mayonnaise
Philadelphia cream cheese
I love Aldi’s Elevation and Simply Nature products
Goodles Mac & cheese and Oikos yogurt.
Helmans mayo🙌
Raos mayo, coke, Philadelphia cream cheese, Maxwell house coffee, Heinz ketchup..,,
Prairie Farms cottage cheese
Heinz is the only ketchup I will buy. Skippy is the only peanut butter I will buy.
Ken’s Blue Cheese Dressing!
Lipton Tea, Dr. Pepper (sugar free), Coca-Cola, and Aveno Lotion
Best foods (aka hellman’s) mayo. Nothing else will ever be on my sammies! I will go without spread before I use a different name brand! Lol
For my kids… it’s KRAFT mac n cheese ONLY. 😂
facing this question ,i just come to realize how flexible i am with grocery items..i dont look for brands but rather whats on sale and whats the deal.but given the choice ,i always pick dole pineapple with heavy syrup ,it has to be that brand DOLE and with the heavy syrup marked on the can.makes a big difference when i mix it with the food recipe im preparing.unless it is out of stock and so i dont have a choice but to pick a different brand.
Only Jif for Peanut Butter, Hunt’s for Ketchup, French’s for Mustard, Duke’s for Mayonnaise, and Lipton for Tea just to name a few. We are very picky about our condiments. Some things I can buy store brand but never for these items.
Heinz ketchup!
Barilla pasta. I’ve tried other brands in the past, and we didn’t like any of them!
Coca Cola. Any other brand tastes off to me.
Premiums saltine crackers. I’ve bought store brand before and it just falls apart and taste different.
Northern toilet paper
Diet Mountain Dew
Jif peanut butter and coke zero cherry vanilla
Mountain Dew
Pepsi, Duke’s
I absolutely LOVE Sam’s club paper products (paper towels and toilet paper). They are the best quality for the price (per unit). I love that they come in large packs. I refuse to buy any other brand
Quilted Northern toilet paper
Heinz ketchup and Almond Breeze almond milk. They are the best quality and flavor.
Kelloggs poptarts, are the only brand my family will eat
There are so many Heinz, ketchup, Coke, Häagen-Dazs, French’s Mustard, and Hershey syrup
Aldi store brand
Kirkland by Costco!
Pepperidge Farms Milanos
Costco lasagna. I like to plan my menus and buy the bulk of my groceries for a month at a time (and the kitchen is so small in my 1948 house that I have an apartment-size fridge) so freezer space is at a premium. We tried to switch to the Rana because it can be kept refrigerated (and we love Rana tortellini and fettuccini) but it didn’t compare. I will probably never adventure out to another brand ever again.
Heinz
Oregon Trails for tea drinks
I will never switch from Campbell’s Soup. I tried other brands and learned that the old favorite from my childhood is still the best to me.
Pepsi
Coca-Cola, Dr Pepper, only name brand sodas for me
Coke Zero
Dukes mayo!!!
Oreos!
Siete, miyokos, lesser evil
Definitely Philadelphia cream cheese and Tillamook ice cream and cheese!!
Easy… Diet Coke Caffeine Free
