Here’s our Hip team’s favorite grocery name brands worth paying full price…
“I am a southern mayonnaise girl – a very picky one. No matter the price, Blue Plate mayo is the only mayonnaise worthy of our family recipes; mom’s potato salad, pimento cheese, deviled eggs, tuna salad, home fries, mac n cheese casserole…it’s all better with Blue Plate. It’s really creamy, with just the right amount of tanginess that doesn’t intrude or overpower like Miracle Whip, but gives the perfect flavor base to build on.
Now that I’m thinking about my favorite southern comfort foods, I also swear by these red beans – I use them to make my cheater red beans, sausage and rice. Instead of several hours, it takes about 30 mins without giving up flavor or texture.” – Cara
“The one brand my family is super loyal to is Nabisco Oreos. We’ve tried a few other grocery brands of them through the years (ALDI, Publix, Walmart). I even bought some fakes and put them in the Nabisco packaging, but my kids and husband immediately knew 🤣. Nothing even comes close to the taste of Nabisco Oreos, so even if they are double the cost, they are worth it.
I feel the same about Lucky Charms cereal, like, I know that is not my magically delicious marshmallow. It’s General Mills or no cereal at all for me!” – Liz
“I’m the same about Post with their Fruity Pebbles. I have tried the generics, and I am confident that in a blind taste test, I would know the real Fruity Pebbles out of a group of wannabes. 😂 I feel that way about most generic cereals, and sometimes I don’t mind that they’re not spot on, but Pebbles are my fave so nothing comes close lol!“ – Emily
“Ooohh yes – so true about the Oreos! And also, Hershey’s unsweetened cocoa powder for baking and Heinz ketchup for me. Why do other brands of ketchup even exist?? 😂“ – Jenna R
“Oreos for sure. Also, Kellogg’s Raisin Bran – the generic and Post-brand versions just don’t taste as good. In fact, with most cereals, the generic versions always taste a little bit off.“ – Angela
“Best Foods Mayonnaise. I can’t with the avo oil ones or store brand. PS – Best Foods Mayonnaise continues to sell west of the Rockies, while Hellmann’s sells to the east. LOL!” – Lina
We can’t wait to hear your go-to grocery store name brands!
Stay tuned for more Hip Birthday giveaway posts all week long! 🎉 Until then, let’s get back to the deals…
As a big fan of plant milks, especially oat, Planet Oat Unsweetened Plain or Vanilla Oat Milk is my go-to! It is thicker in texture, rich and creamy, low in calories and has the ideal taste. No other brand oat milk is comparable to it from what I’ve found.
Tillamook ice cream, Noosa yogurt, Lucerne milk and cheese products, and Oreos!
Pepperidge Farm Goldfish; Lunchables; Skor Iced coffee; International Delight Coldstone Creamery creamer!
Wright Bacon
Nothing will ever change me from using Heinz ketchup!!!
8 o’clock decaf coffee
Coke for sure!
My son has a peanut allergy so it’s tough for me to use store brands especially Walmarts on most things. I’ve been starting to check into Aldi more especially for no dyes and some items are specifically from a nut free facility. So once an item is on our list we stick with it forever. ❤️
Fairlife milk since it’s higher protein and lower sugar content than other brands.
Honey bunch of oats -Post cereal
Bolthouse juices, Eggo waffles, and Tyson chicken nuggets!
As a southern girl Dukes Mayonnaise is a must! Actually all my condiments must be name brand, French’s mustard, Dukes Mayonnaise, and Heinz Ketchup. I will buy store brands of other things to save money but i never compromise when it comes to these three
Good and Gather at Target
Unless it gets exponentially expensive, I will always use Hellman’s Mayonnaise. It’s already quite expensive but I persevere! Hellman’s has the best taste, texture has the best tang. I use Hellman’s in everything, from a sandwich
I agree. I use Hellmann’s Light Mayo.
Tillamook brand for Ice Cream and Kellogg’s Cocoa Krispies. Also Guerrero Riquisimas Flour Tortillas, we suffer a bit since we moved from the West, they don’t sell them in the South East!
Hellmans and Coffee Mate creamer
Coke for me.
Dr. Pepper
Fruity and cocoa pebbles I will spend full price on for the brand! My kids love to make rice krispy treats out of them and they always turn out a hit at parties!
heinz
Duke’s mayonnaise, Heinz ketchup & Mt Olive pickles!
Best Foods Mayonnaise. My oldest son won’t eat any other kind, it’s the “Best”. Campbell’s soups, the generics just aren’t the same. Oreos! Need I say more?
Dunkin’ Donuts Original Blend Medium Roast Whole Bean Coffee!! A cup of this with unsweetened soy milk every morning is my lifeline ^_^.
Lea and Perrin’s worcestshire sauce
I really don’t have a name brand. I am willing to always try the store brand whenever possible.
I would have to say all Name Brand Cereal, Generic brands just don’t stand a chance. ty ❤️
Duke’s mayo and A1 steak sauce
I am pretty flexible with most Store name and brands. But if I had to choose one item, it would be Duke’s mayonnaise.
I’m a Hellman’s Mayonnaise user. Anything else has a weird aftertaste.
I will use store brand for most things, but for cornbread it has to be Martha White corn meal mix.
I only buy Dove soap.
I cannot think of any one food item I am 100% brand specific on….. I will buy items by the sale or coupon, some have been great finds!
100% Dukes Mayonnaise- it has the best flavor, none of the others even come close!!
Soda and chai latte k cups
Cheez-It crackers. Store brand crackers trying taste similar just don’t compare to that cheesy flavor.
Just had this conversation with my son last night. Hot pockets (pepperoni pizza), tried the Walmart Great Value pepperoni and cheese and did not compare.
Love Great Value brand ice cream…sooo creamy!
Heinz ketchup for my hubby, he knows the difference when I’ve tried to switch it up. I try to stock up when there is a sale at Costco, like right now!
Definitely Coca Cola. Could never drink generic.
Oreos, Best Foods Mayo, and Skippy peanut butter. We’ll try other brands on almost everything else.
Chobani creamer. Soo good!
Heinz ketchup, Mountain Dew Kickstart (my energy drink of choice), Oreos
Nutpods creamers. Absolutely love all the flavors, especially pumpkin spice and toasted marshmallow!
coca cola and kraft mac and cheese!
I love Kirkland products from Costco
Ken’s honey mustard dipping sauce. Perfectly blended. So good!
As a family, we have taste-tested root beers and chocolate sandwich cookies. Best over-all winners were A
Noosa yogurt has become my go-to brand for delicious yogurt! My hubby and I tried it a few months ago ( it was bogo at our local grocery store 🙂 ). It is thick, creamy, fresh, and just so yummy! If you haven’t tried it yet, I highly recommend it! There is a lemon flavored one that is so refreshing, but honestly all the flavors I have tried have been delish! I’m now craving one! ( Time for a Noosa!!! ) 🙂
Kleenex
Bowl and basket low fat mayo from shoprite.
