Here’s our Hip team’s favorite grocery name brands worth paying full price…
“I am a southern mayonnaise girl – a very picky one. No matter the price, Blue Plate mayo is the only mayonnaise worthy of our family recipes; mom’s potato salad, pimento cheese, deviled eggs, tuna salad, home fries, mac n cheese casserole…it’s all better with Blue Plate. It’s really creamy, with just the right amount of tanginess that doesn’t intrude or overpower like Miracle Whip, but gives the perfect flavor base to build on.
Now that I’m thinking about my favorite southern comfort foods, I also swear by these red beans – I use them to make my cheater red beans, sausage and rice. Instead of several hours, it takes about 30 mins without giving up flavor or texture.” – Cara
“The one brand my family is super loyal to is Nabisco Oreos. We’ve tried a few other grocery brands of them through the years (ALDI, Publix, Walmart). I even bought some fakes and put them in the Nabisco packaging, but my kids and husband immediately knew 🤣. Nothing even comes close to the taste of Nabisco Oreos, so even if they are double the cost, they are worth it.
I feel the same about Lucky Charms cereal, like, I know that is not my magically delicious marshmallow. It’s General Mills or no cereal at all for me!” – Liz
“I’m the same about Post with their Fruity Pebbles. I have tried the generics, and I am confident that in a blind taste test, I would know the real Fruity Pebbles out of a group of wannabes. 😂 I feel that way about most generic cereals, and sometimes I don’t mind that they’re not spot on, but Pebbles are my fave so nothing comes close lol!“ – Emily
“Ooohh yes – so true about the Oreos! And also, Hershey’s unsweetened cocoa powder for baking and Heinz ketchup for me. Why do other brands of ketchup even exist?? 😂“ – Jenna R
“Oreos for sure. Also, Kellogg’s Raisin Bran – the generic and Post-brand versions just don’t taste as good. In fact, with most cereals, the generic versions always taste a little bit off.“ – Angela
“Best Foods Mayonnaise. I can’t with the avo oil ones or store brand. PS – Best Foods Mayonnaise continues to sell west of the Rockies, while Hellmann’s sells to the east. LOL!” – Lina
We can’t wait to hear your go-to grocery store name brands!
Stay tuned for more Hip Birthday giveaway posts all week long! 🎉 Until then, let’s get back to the deals…
My husband is extremely particular about big name brand items, so Jif Peanut butter is the only acceptable pb. For me, I am willing to try Great Value items as some are quality and just as tasty. But I love Pepsi made with real sugar due to not having corn syrup. (Corn intolerance.)
Kirkland brand at Costco
Pace for salsa
Chobani for creamer
So many! These are in my cart right now-Ole High Fiber tortillas, Nature Valley granola bars, Blue Diamond almonds, Califia Farms almond milk, Impossible burgers, and Sabra hummus!
Truvani protein powder
I love Sweet Loren’s gluten free cookie dough for my creami. Also love love Simply Doritos White Cheddar.
Kellogg cereals. Store brands do not compare
Triscuits. Generics don’t have the same texture.
Duke’s mayo and Fruity & Cocoa Pebbles 😄
Kelloggs Special K with Strawberries…my go to all time favorite
There are quite a few, but Heinz seems to stand out the most in my mind. Any other brand is just not the right flavor.
Jif Peanut Butter all the way. Nothing else comes close.
My go to store brand is great value, and I love them all from toilet paper to food items! What I truly love is they’re affordable and good quality
For box Mac and cheese Kraft every time!
Double Stuf Oreo Cookies!
A1 steak sauce, JIF Peanut Butter, Heinz Ketchup
JIF peanut butter
Any pop (soda). Do not like off brand.
Charmin for bath tissue
I don’t understand, I thought you wanted my grocery store name brand, not the name brand of the product that I am loyal to. My grocery store brand is food club, I’m loyal to Jif, no other PB brand for us
Premier Protein Protein Drinks, A1 Steak Sauce, but otherwise lots of generic brands are great- Member’s Mark, Target Brands, Great Value, and Kroger brands – it all depends on what it is for us, we buy a variety!
“Eggo Waffles” no other rendition even comes close.
Jif Peanut Butter
costco, so the kirkland brand
Coffee Mate
Kraft Mac n cheese and oreos.
Private selection (kroger)
Rold Gold pretzels
Dukes mayonnaise
Dukes mayonnaise for a recipe… Whatever’s cheapest if just me!
I 100% agree with Lina on the Best Foods mayo. I will never, ever give that up. It is the most delicious tasting mayo on the market. I truly hope they never change their recipe. It is absolutely tasty. Nothing could ever replace it.
Dr Pepper Zero strawberries and cream soda. And if I read it wrong, the store brand I like the most is Great Value from Walmart.
Seven Sundays Cereal/ Granola. Kirkland Brand, Chobani Creamer
Chobani yogurt, Jif peanut butter and Kirkland brand.
H-E-B, you really can not go wrong with their brand on a lot of items.
There are quite a few for us, but can’t go wrong with a Bounty paper towel, the others just aren’t as good!
Aldi brands
Hormel Chili with Beans is the one and only one I’ll always buy.
The local store by me has their own brand salsa and I can’t buy any other now!
The wild planet sardines in evoo. Double stuffed Oreos for sure. Yummm
Kroger brand
Jif. When they had the huge recall I had let us get extremely low. My kids would not touch any other kind I bought. I make sure and keep up stocked up now.
Charmin Soft bathroom tissue for this girl’s derrière!! No other brand , EVER!!
Good Culture cottage cheese, Heinz ketchup, Duke’s Mayo!
Hellmann’s mayonnaise is a must for me!
I’m particularly with my cereal…I love my cheerios, lucky charms ect.
Snyders pretzels.
Aldi and their Specialty Brand
Members Mark
Greenwich from Publix, Kirkland from Costco, and always Hellmans Mayonnaise!
Skippy PB is my favorite! I’ll use other PB in baking and recipes, but there is no real substitute!
