Del Monte Foods Files for Bankruptcy – Could This Be the End of an Era?
Del Monte Foods files for bankruptcy. Here’s what we know so far…
Not even the iconic Del Monte Foods, a longtime staple in American pantries, could escape financial hardship. After nearly 140 years in business, the company has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
This financial plummet comes from a decline in consumer demand for shelf-stable canned fruits and veggies, as shoppers increasingly reach for fresh and frozen options.
Del Monte says it’s aiming to “create a stronger and enduring Del Monte Foods” as it looks for a new buyer to take the brand into the future.
In the meantime, the company will undergo a court-supervised sale process, which allows Del Monte to keep operating its business… for now. So no need to stockpile canned peaches just yet.
Could this put your favorite green bean casserole at risk?
