Redbox Closing Over 24,000 Kiosks (It’s Like the End of an Era!)
Say goodbye to Redbox!
(Flashback to 2015 and Collin excitedly renting from Redbox!)
It feels like an end of an era as we just learned that Redbox’s 24,000 movie rental kiosks will be closed down. The parent company of Redbox, Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment, has filed for bankruptcy and is now liquidating assets including all of these kiosks.
Even worse, Redbox’s main lender, HPS, has alleged gross misconduct by the company in the Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. The company’s employees have not been paid for work that they performed and according to the New York Post, all 1,033 of them are now jobless without severance or extended benefits. 😢

Don’t miss these special movie deals!
Redbox was great for us back in the day before streaming, etc. The kids loved choosing movies and especially returning them as it was fun to put back in the box for them! And who can forget trying to hold up the red screen, squinting at the sun-brightened screen and trying to enter your email and card info while also trying to hold said card while keeping an eye on your kids! (But then we started ordering online to pick up – so much easier). What a shame that the employees are getting a raw deal due to misconduct from the other company; how do these people sleep at night??!)
